Chapter 343 National Desert Reservoir Project (4/4)
The construction of a large desert reservoir is finally about to be approved!
During this period of time, the expert group has explored the deep water system of the desert more and more, and has obtained more surprises.
There is no doubt that the deep water system is connected to Lake Baikal, and to the surprise of the experts, they found that the deep water system is very mobile with Lake Baikal, that is, the deep water system is replenished by a constant stream of water.
Experts speculate that this may have been caused by the Baikal earthquake.
You know, Lake Baikal is the oldest lake in the world and a fault lake formed by a fracture of the earth's crust.
The movement of the earth's crust causes frequent earthquakes in the Baikal region, with an average of 2,000 earthquakes per year. After each earthquake, the bottom of Lake Baikal sinks by 3 to 5 meters.
Probably because of the earthquake, a new fault was formed at the bottom of Lake Belga, and the lake water was continuously injected into the fault, eventually forming a deep "underground channel". Fortunately, one end of this river leads to China, and it was excavated by Jiagu by applying Professor Chen Jiansheng's "deep circulation theory".
As for the phenomenon of groundwater gushing, experts speculate that it may be due to the fact that the underground river channel meanders all the way to this point, because the height difference leads to the potential difference, which creates a pressurization effect underground.
Hehe, if it weren't for his own handwriting, Qi Zheng would almost believe it.
Of course, the study of the underground water system to Baikal is currently being kept secret, and the idea of building a water diversion project to bring water from Lake Baikal to our country will spark heated discussions in both countries as soon as it is created. Now that the dream has come true, the devil knows what moths will come out of the old hairy people? Isn't it fragrant to make a fortune in a muffled voice?
As for how long it will be hidden, that's for later.
Crucially, experts have found that if the underground channel is fully developed, the maximum annual water output could be close to 100 billion cubic meters of annual runoff from the two Yellow Rivers.
The relevant departments have calmed down.
Hurry up and develop it, the Yellow River is not easy!
As the "river of life" in Northwest and North China, the natural runoff of the Yellow River is only 6% of that of the Yangtze River, but with its limited water resources, which account for 2% of the country's river runoff, it irrigates 13% of the country's grain production, guarantees 14% of the country's GDP output value, and feeds 12% of the country's population.
As a result, she has become "thin" day by day, and her function of maintaining the social and economic development of the basin is close to the limit.
According to the latest statistics, the utilization rate and consumption rate of surface water in the Yellow River basin have reached 80% and 70%, far exceeding the carrying capacity of the Yellow River's water resources. Water shortage is already the biggest challenge facing the Yellow River, and some experts have suggested that the western route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project should be launched at an appropriate time to quench the "thirst" of the Yellow River.
According to the data obtained by Qi Zheng, the precipitation in the Yellow River basin has not changed much over the years, but various human factors have led to a decrease in the runoff of the Yellow River.
The most surprising thing is that the restoration of vegetation in the middle and upper reaches is an important reason for the reduction of runoff in the Yellow River Basin.
As vegetation increases and transpiration rises, a large amount of available liquid and solid water is converted into green water in the atmosphere and soil in a gaseous or molecular state.
But again, there is no room for water conservation.
Vegetation restoration has obvious ecological functions, fixing windblown sand, conserving water and soil, and conserving groundwater sources.
If we do not restore vegetation, the degree of desertification will deepen, and a large amount of yellow sand will fall into the Yellow River, causing sediment accumulation, raising the riverbed, and easily causing floods......
The increase in water conservancy projects has also exacerbated water surface evaporation. For example, after the reservoir is impounded, the water surface expands, and the evaporation is inevitably large, resulting in a huge waste of valuable water resources, resulting in a decrease in runoff.
This is emphasized in the proposal to build a reservoir, because it is in the northwest desert, and the size of the reservoir should be controlled so as not to cause too much waste, and they do not know that someone has opened an invisible barrier over the desert to block the loss of most of the water vapor.
According to current calculations, since 2000, the Yellow River has had a water shortfall of 5 billion cubic meters per year, and the limited water resources of the Yellow River can no longer achieve a balance in agriculture, industry, and ecological use. It is estimated that by 2030, the water shortfall will reach more than 10 billion cubic meters, even in normal years.
While water resources are decreasing, the demand for water is increasing rigidly. The only way is to divert water from the outside into the yellow.
Before, there was no choice but to start the South-to-North Water Diversion.
Both the eastern and central routes have started construction, and the western route has also passed the review, but they are still in the preliminary demonstration stage and have not yet entered the procedures for infrastructure approval.
The construction of the western route has not yet started, and it happens that it can be replaced by a new desert reservoir plan.
The western route project plans to dig a water conveyance tunnel in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and divert a total of 17 billion cubic meters of water into the upper reaches of the Yellow River every year through three routes. However, the project is extremely difficult.
Now that there is a reservoir that can replenish at least 20 billion cubic meters of water per year in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, and it is significantly easier to do, is there much more to consider?
As for the central and eastern routes, there will be no waste of sufficient water in the Yellow River, and water can also be diverted into North China through a two-line project, and the ecological water replenishment and recharge of rivers and lakes in North China due to over-exploitation of groundwater will be gradually promoted, so as to further solve the problem of water shortage in the north.
Based on this consideration, coupled with the fact that the experts' assessment of the overall ecological and environmental changes of the reservoir construction in Northwest China is mainly optimistic, the project of building a desert reservoir has been accelerated.
When the news came, the Jiagu sand control team was jubilant.
Everyone knows how much the construction of this large desert reservoir will promote the ecological management of the Al-Tan League, and the day when the desert will turn into mulberry fields is not far off.
The planning for the construction of large desert reservoirs and rivers was carried out in an orderly manner, and after preliminary research, the project was carried out in three phases and three lines.
The first phase of the project is the main construction of the reservoir and the construction of the northern river channel, which is mainly to store water and supply water to the Al-Ashanmeng League and even Mongolia Province to improve the ecology of the desert area.
The eastern route is to build a waterway through the Tengger Desert to bypass the Helan Mountains to replenish water to the Yellow River, while the western route is to supply water to the Hexi Corridor area of Suzhou Province, and if necessary, it can also replenish water to the upper reaches of the Yellow River in a timely manner.
The whole project covers the six provinces in the Yellow River basin in northwest China, solving the problem of water shortage in the six provinces, and supplementing the water volume of the Yellow River covers the vast water-scarce areas in the middle and lower reaches, so as to achieve the optimal allocation of water resources.
Of course, this is only a preliminary plan, and the specific route will inevitably go through countless arguments and reviews.
As for Jiagu, although this plan was promoted by Jiagu, neither the construction of reservoirs nor the distribution of water resources was something that Jiagu could interfere in.
Qi Zheng and others know this, after all, this is a project related to the national economy and people's livelihood, not a purely profit-making project. Rights and responsibilities are equal, and a small body like Jiagu should not think about joining in the fun.
But as a meritorious man, Jiagu naturally will not gain nothing.
The state supports the action of Jiagu to control and develop the Alashan League Desert, and provides corresponding financial subsidies, which can be said to be not only an ecological subsidy for the protection of reservoir water resources, but also a reward for Jiagu's "water search".
