Lang Shining was one of the most famous Italian painters among the missionaries who came to China in the early Qing Dynasty. He served the Qing court for 51 years, went through the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong dynasties, and painted hundreds of paintings for the court, and there were many Chinese painters who were influenced by him.
Because he was good at Western painting, and Emperor Qianlong later forced him to paint with Chinese brushes, so his figures, flowers, feathers and landscape works are very rich in Chinese and Western styles, which made Qing Dynasty court paintings refreshing and had a high status in the history of Qing Dynasty painting.
This "turkey picture" is a colored silk book, the size is very large, about 1 meter long, about 1.8 meters wide, the upper right side of the picture has a Qianlong Emperor's imperial "turkey poem" inscribed by Yu Minzhong, a scholar of Wenhua Palace, signed by the paragraph: "Ministers in Minzhong Feng Xun Respect Book". There are: "Chen Min Zhongyin", "Newspaper Article" Zhu Wen privately printed two pieces.
In the lower right corner of the picture, there is a Jin Ting standard inscription: "Chen Jin Ting Biao Gong Painting", and there is a private seal of "Ting Biao" in white text.
In the center of the painting is a turkey perched on a rock, with its head turned to the right side of the painting, its eyes blazing, its beak curved, and its claws gripping the stone.
On the right side of the picture is a curved and coiled green pine, the bark is mottled and vigorous, the pine branches are on it, and the needles are also freehand.
In the lower left corner of the painting, a turkey with its head twisted and pecking at its feathers is depicted, looking at a rushing stream in the rocks. The upper part of the turkey is painted with brown and purple Ganoderma lucidum, and the lower right corner is painted with white peonies, and there are several small flowers around it.
The whole work of turkey, Ganoderma lucidum, peony with Western method, the point of view tree stone pen is the traditional ink appearance, the turkey shape is accurate, realistic and realistic, feathers, peck, claws are rich in texture, the use of perspective, light and shade, layers and other Western realistic techniques to express.
The peony is graceful and luxurious, the color is fresh, charming and lovely. The background of the picture is quaint, the turkey and peony are realistic, and the two are harmonious and unified in tone, which is undoubtedly a masterpiece of Chinese and Western combinations.
In addition to being recorded in the Archives of the Qing Palace's Internal Affairs Office, this "Turkey Picture" was also published in the 33rd volume of the Collection of Chinese Famous Paintings in the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929) and the 31st volume of the Hushe Monthly in the 20th year of the Republic of China (1931).
Lang Shining and Jin Tingbiao's "Turkey Picture" is a complete record and orderly inheritance, and it is definitely a masterpiece of Qing Dynasty painting.
Xiao Yao admired the technique and color of this painting very much.
Technique: The hairy lines are neatly arranged, short and finely lined, similar to the Western sketch lines. This kind of line is based on the change of light, the backlight, the ink line is lighter, the backlight, the ink line is thicker, with the line with the surface, and the color (ochre, cyan) rendering, forming this artistic effect of expressing feathers.
The lines of the neck of "Turkey" are short and thin, all of which are hooked down clockwise, and titanium white is added in the middle to make highlights, and then rendered. The color rendering uses cyan, head blue, two green, titanium white, etc.
These rich color rendering skills, realistic realism, accurate modeling ability, and fine and neatly arranged lines are an important basis for judging the artistic level of a Western painter.
Color: "Turkey Picture" is very rich in the use of pigments, seemingly unified tones, the use of pigments as many as 20 kinds, many shades are between blue and blue, such as the feathers on the cyan, head blue, ochre, magenta alum white, neck with cyan, head blue, two green, alum white, the first part with dart, magenta, alum white, pecking garcinia cambogia, alum white, claws of brown red, ochre, magenta, titanium white.
In terms of details, the white space around the eyelids, the highlight treatment of the eyeballs, the rendering of the eye socket colors (dart, magenta, alum white), and the posture and line lines of the claws are all very skillful.
Xiao Yao liked this painting very much, appreciated it carefully, and then put it back in the Bogu shelf, and then picked up another painting to watch.
This painting is still the work of Lang Shining, and it turned out to be a relatively rare "Portrait of Qianlong".
This painting, with delicate facial depictions and obvious traces of European painting methods, was independently completed by Lang Shining in the early Qianlong period.
Lang Shining's works were made in the early Qianlong period, because the painter was in the prime of life, the depiction of the faces of the figures was more detailed, and all the paintings were completed by Lang Shining alone.
Considering that this painting was completed by Lang Shining independently, and it is a portrait of Qianlong, the price should be around 170 million yuan. The "Turkey Picture" was completed by Lang Shining and Jin Tingbiao, although the size is larger, but the value is lower, and his estimate is about 80 million.
The third scroll opened by Xiao Yao is still Lang Shining's work, and it is his fine painting "Eight Horses".
There are many works by Lang Shining with horses as the theme, but this picture is definitely a masterpiece of the same kind.
In terms of painting skills, Lang Shining created a novel painting method that is different from traditional painting. He uses Chinese brushes, paper silks and colors, but he can focus on the anatomical structure, volume and texture of the horses with European painting methods, so that the images of horses in his brushes are accurate, appropriately proportioned, concave and convex and three-dimensional, unlike the ancient Chinese painters who used long and strong lines to outline the outline of objects.
He uses fine short lines to depict the shape of the horse, the folds of the fur, the protruding blood vessels and tendons under the fur, or uses the depth of color to express the concave and convex muscles of the horse, which is very different from the image of the horse in traditional Chinese painting.
In the court more than 200 years ago, this unique painting method was loved by the emperor, and thus influenced the painting style of some Chinese court painters, so that this combination of Chinese and Western painting methods of painting horses is still handed down to this day.
Xiao Yao estimated that although the price of this work is not as good as "Portrait of Qianlong", the price will definitely not be less than 100 million yuan.
All the works on this lattice of the Bogu frame are Lang Shining's works, but the rest of the works are not masterpieces, and the prices range from 10,000 to 10,000.
Xiao Yao just looked at it briefly and put it down.
The works placed in the first grid gave him a huge surprise, and the works placed in the next grid also did not disappoint him, and they were all Xu Beihong's works.
Needless to say, Xu Beihong's position in the history of painting is that he has a broad and profound artistic accomplishment, specializing in sketching and oil painting, and is particularly creative in Chinese figures, animals, and landscapes, opening up a new realm for modern Chinese painting.
