Chapter 3: Vince Jean
Located in Euston Ruth, the British Library is just over an hour's drive from the cottage area.
Grace drove skillfully, and soon the two of them were in the British Library.
The ground is paved with red stone bricks, reflecting the red façade of the entire library, and the building is not tall, but it has a strong European architectural style.
The two walked into this centuries-old collection one after the other.
What catches your eye is a huge, white circular ceiling. Below, shelves filled with books are embedded in the walls, and as they are arranged, the floor is lined up with neatly organized old bookshelves full of books.
I have to say that this place is simply an ocean of knowledge.
Many people sat on dark brown tables and chairs scattered among them, reading books or looking at some kind of information.
However, I have seen some books in the famous mountain sect, which are far less abundant than here.
Ginger sake walked while flipping through it.
I don't know if there are any ancient books on spiritual practice here.
On the other side, Grace looked at the classified logos on the shelves. It reads 'Religious Class A-Z'. This is it.
Grace waved her hand and motioned for Ginger sake to come over,
Pointing to the words printed on the square copper plate, hesitating that it had been too long since the last time she saw the content about evil spirits, Grace had to search for them in the rows of bookshelves.
Jiang Qingjiu had no choice but to follow her,
It wasn't until she found the third row of bookshelves that Grace stopped, and there was a whole column in front of her, full of books about the Bible, some originals, and some things written about the Bible by other people.
Grace frowned, as if trying to remember something.
After only a few moments, her brow gradually relaxed, and a slender hand pointed to the books in front of her one by one, and finally stopped at a book called "Demons in the Bible", under which the author read: Vince Jean.
The two of them found a corner with few people and sat down,
Grace was a little excited, she clearly remembered that there were some things about evil spirits recorded in it, and if she could get some useful information from it, then maybe the matter of the villa could be solved.
The book is delicately bound, the cover is brown leather, and it looks like it is some years old.
Open the book,
The first page only writes one sentence: Light is in the darkness, but the darkness does not receive the light.
The second page is illustrated in black and white, with a crucifix nailed to a demon with an ugly face and wingless feathers.
Apparently these things brought back memories to Grace, and she quickly flipped to page 144.
The title is very clear above, with two large characters aligned with the left as the head, "Evil Spirit".
The two of them watched the contents carefully.
Surprisingly, the thick book contains only two short pages of descriptions of evil spirits, beginning with a paragraph about the origin of the evil spirits, followed by a legend about the evil spirits that took place in a small town in Italy.
In the author's writing, there seems to be a deep understanding of evil spirits, but it seems that he is reluctant to talk too deeply about them in the book.
It's like a person who knows a secret, he wants others to know that he knows the secret, and then he deliberately doesn't tell it. It's speechless.
Grace closed the book and took a deep breath,
"Grace, take the liberty of asking, did you investigate that villa before?" Jiang Qingjiu looked away, and his tone was calm, as if he asked casually.
Grace waved her hand and squeezed out a smile,
"Wine, you're right, I did investigate it myself, but it stopped there. The things recorded in this account are not thorough enough, and perhaps only by meeting the author himself can he know the secrets that he is not willing to tell in the book. β
It turns out that Grace also found out that the author wants to talk and stops in the book, as if he is hiding something. Jiang Qingjiu stood up, already having a plan in his heart, reached out and picked up the book, and looked at the golden boy above, the author, Vince Jean.
Grace, who was very observant, also stood up and asked in a low voice, "Wine, are you going to find the author himself?"
Jiang Sake didn't hide anything and nodded. To enter a mysterious, dangerous room and find out what's there, you'll first have to get some clues from Vince Jean.
"Is there any good way you can find Vince Jean?"
Grace reached for the book, flipped through it, and looked at the printing time on the back, '1600'
If nothing else, this Vince Jean doesn't even have bones.
Jiang Qingjiu touched his forehead a little embarrassed, he didn't expect it, but this Vince Jean must have descendants, even if Vince Jean didn't tell his descendants about these things, maybe they might be able to know something if they heard about it.
With this in mind, the two walked out of the British Library.
In the car, Grace asked, "What should we do next if Vince Jean's descendants don't know about these things?" Wine, have you ever thought about it?"
What to do next, Jiang Sake returned confidently: "Let's find the Vince family first." β
Then he turned to look at Grace again, and smiled gently,
"Grace, there is an old Chinese saying that 'the boat is naturally straight to the bridge'. The meaning of this sentence is that no matter what happens, there will be a solution in the end. β
Grace seemed to like the remark, pouted, as if helpless, and said, "Okay, okay." Wine, you win. But to find Vince Jean's descendants, you have to find my friend who works as a private investigator. Without his help, we would have had a hard time finding Vince. β
Jiang Qingjiu really wants to see if this private detective is the same as the characters portrayed in those film and television works, with a strange temperament, wearing a small suit, and always being able to see clues that ordinary people can't find every time.
The two drove back to the small villa area, and when they passed by the strange house, they could feel the strange atmosphere coming from it more clearly.
Hurriedly opened two doors,
Grace stood up next to the TV rummaging for something, and suddenly she quickly stood up again, showing a charming smile,
"Sorry, wine. Because of the Cavendi family, I can't let you see that friend right now. I'll call him and ask him to help us find Vince Jean's descendants. β
Jiang Qingjiu sat on the sofa and felt that it didn't matter, waved his hand, and motioned for Grace to continue.
Grace returned to her room and spoke for more than a quarter of an hour.
Sitting on the couch, drinking coffee, the little civet who stayed at Goering's house came by. Lazily leaning on Ginger Sake's legs, making a low sound.
The door was suddenly opened,
"Found the descendants of Vince Joan in Beckensfield, 16 miles northwest of London. β
Grace held the phone in her hand, and was a little eager to say what she had just learned.
Seeing the little civet, she walked over in a few steps, picked up the little civet, and looked at the little civet with a hint of love in her eyes.
"I've wanted to have a kitten of my own for a long time. β
Jiang Qingjiu stood up, but he didn't expect the private investigator to find Vince Jean's descendants so quickly, knowing that the book was printed in 1600.
Grace seems to be in love with the little civet, and keeps touching its fur,
"Wine, shall we drive there now?"
Jiang Qingjiu thought for a while and asked, "Do you know the exact address?"
Grace pulled out a note that was in her jacket pocket with an exact physical address: 232 Deg Road, Beckensfield.
Fearing that Goering would not know where Jiang Sake was when he returned home, the two sent the little civet to Goering's house and drove to Beaconsfield.
On the way, recalling that Goering went out to work early, but Grace had been investigating the secrets of the villa with him, Jiang Qingjiu couldn't help but ask curiously: "Grace, don't you have a job?"
Grace drove in the front seat, looking at the ginger sake in the rearview mirror, and then turned her gaze to the front,
"I don't have a job at the moment, I'm idle at home. However, the previous few businesses gave me a lot of income, and even if I didn't do anything for a while, I could still support myself. β
This made Jiang Qingjiu a little curious about what Grace did before, after all, she was able to contact the private detective, and listening to her say this, the salary seemed to be quite large, and the work she did would be to investigate some things with helpers.
The car was speeding on the asphalt road, but it was already more than two hours later when I arrived in Beckensfield.
Grace found a place to stop the car,
The houses on the Beckensfield side are a little different from the cottages on the other side, with more older buildings on this side.
The two of them walked along the path paved with small white stone slabs,
After leaving the main road in the center, I saw a sign standing on the side of a forked road on the right side of the town, which read: Dege Road.
Walking slowly along the path, the buildings in this area are more ancient, and most of them are inhabited by gray-haired old men or old women. They sat on their little balcony or by the door, basking in the sun. The town's booming tourism over the years has made these locals accustomed to outsiders, and for them, Ginger Sake is a tourist from Asia, and Grace is his guide.
In the middle of the path, a house a little to the left,
The house and its surroundings are built in the same style, except for the inscription '232 Degle Road' on a metal plate nailed to the door.
There was no one sitting by the door, and there was no one on the small balcony of the same room.
Grace knocked lightly on the door,
Nothing happened inside.
Knocking again, a crisp knock reverberated throughout the quiet street,
There was a slow sound of footsteps in the room,
Someone came over.
"The one out there?"
Then, an old voice came through the crack in the door.
