Chapter Ninety-Four: Fili's Troubles
They ended up choosing the temple of the goddess of ice and snow.
"You can't lie here. Ed warned Fili, "Your goddess, the daughter of Nyo, is watching you. "Caloti, the goddess of ice, is the daughter of Nior, the goddess of water, and Hines, the god of storms, but Ed apparently ignores the legend that Caluti and her mother did not have a very harmonious relationship.
Feely wordlessly looked up at the graceful statue of Caluti and then at the face of the elf opposite, deciding that he might as well give up discussing the colorful family life of the gods with Ed - he had a hunch that they would have to stay together for a while, and it would be good to have some fun for the rest of the day.
"There's not much I can tell you, and I haven't figured out what's going on yet. Filly crossed his legs and sat down on the ground, "I thought my troubles would have to get Bye back to the Collins Temple......"
But he didn't expect that they had just left the Wind Whispering Forest when they ran into trouble.
Baie Young was quiet all the way, which made them let their guard down. They stayed in Cam for the night, and that night Baie fled.
"The two little ones who were guarding him said they had been knocked unconscious by Baie, and the windows and doors opened as soon as they were pushed, but the people next door didn't hear a sound, and when I returned......" Fili recalled with a dejected face.
"Where have you been?" asked Ed suspiciously.
"To visit an old friend, the priest of Anduhe, do you need his name and address for verification?" asked Fili, with some amusement.
Ed shut his mouth in a huff.
After Baie's disappearance, Philip regretted staying in a hotel because he hated Cam's temple of water for being too small, but he had to take full responsibility. He asked a paladin to protect a priest and return to the Collins Temple to report back to Sean Fletcher, while the remaining four split into two teams to get around for news, while he went alone as usual.
A few days later, Fili lost news of two of them. When he reached the place where the two men had last appeared, the people nearby said that they had never seen them, nor had they seen anyone like Baie.
By then, Filly had realized that his troubles were snowballing. He immediately went to find two other men, who had found something in a village outside Cam. But he found only one of them, and the other, a young priest, was also missing.
And the only paladin he found was that he couldn't even remember his name.
Some kind of plague has struck the entire village, and the people have strange red spots on their bodies that gradually fester, and their memories and sanity quickly disappear in a high fever, and they will die in less than three days.
It is said that even further afield, a few years ago, another village died of the same disease. Eric and the priest who traveled with him presumably stayed because of this, but even if they tried to heal, it was clear that they had failed. Luckily, another priest of the gods came here and healed everyone, and although those who recovered were more or less lost some of their memories due to illness, what did it matter?
They said that the priest had told them that memories would slowly return, and that they should not worry too much if they could not, because all existence was born out of nothingness, and they had a chance to create better memories. ”
"That doesn't sound like anything wrong. Ed said, "Although I have never heard a god teach believers in this way before......"
"Oooh, that's the most interesting part. Filly held up a finger, "I have never heard the name of the god that the priest believes in." ”
"Your companion, the paladin...... Is he sick too?" asked Norwe.
Fili sighed, "Oops, that's another interesting ...... Hell, as a paladin, he shouldn't have been struck down by any illness at all, but he completely lost his memory, which, according to the villagers, meant he had been very sick. ”
"Why don't you just tell him who he is and take him back to the temple, maybe your priest will be able to get him back to his memory. Ed asked, puzzled.
Fili scratched his head in embarrassment, and Norway answered the question on his behalf: "That would call into question the paladin's faith." ”
"It's worse than that, that bastard doesn't know anything and ignores the new gods...... Paladins are no ordinary people, and such an act would be seen as betrayal. If I can figure out what exactly happened, prove that it's not Eric's fault...... Anyway, it's enough to have Beye, and I don't want to lose another companion for some reason...... Or more. Fili acquiesced to the elf's explanation.
"Have you seen the priest of the new gods?" The elves were not surprised by the emergence of a new deity, perhaps a newly born god, or an ancient forgotten deity, as has been recorded in the long history of the elves.
"I'm afraid I'm not as lucky. All I knew was that the priest was tall, blond, blue-eyed, and young, no different from most Anktans...... It should be quite flattering. ”
Most of the Anktanians worshipped Andukh, and even after losing their memories, they still had great respect for the great god of the mountains, but their faith quickly and firmly turned to the new god who had sent a messenger to save their lives. In Fili Zeri's experience, in order to have such an effect, in addition to demonstrating the power of the gods, the priest himself must have won the favor of the people quite easily.
"The God...... What do they call him?" asked Norway at last.
"I thought you weren't going to ask!" said Phili, "they call him Nesses, the god of creation...... Maybe the elves will hear the name?"
Norway looked down for a moment and shook his head, "This name is not in the Elves' records. The god of creation usually refers to the supreme god Omer, who, as far as I know, has no other name among humans. "Some gods appear in different forms within different races, and therefore have different names, but this is not the case with Omer.
"So, lo and behold, a fallen knight on the run, an inexplicable plague, a new god never heard of, a bunch of companions who are either amnesia or missing......" Fili grumbled, rubbing his nose.
"Perhaps...... This has something to do with the necromancer?" Noway guessed.
Filly was stunned for a moment, and involuntarily became serious: "Why do you say that?"
"We found a necromancer in Cam. Norway replied, "The stolen things from the Silver Tooth Mine are also related to the necromancer. ”
He told Fili the news that the dwarves had dug up from the mouths of those who called themselves adventurers. Necromancers are good at mind control, but they are also good at poisons and curses, and if that plague is the work of a necromancer, it makes sense.
"That's really...... It's getting more and more exciting. Fili said dryly, propping his head in sorrow, "I must say that if this is Nyo's test for me, she must have too much confidence in me." ”
Norvi's gaze fell on his wrist - there was a strange symbol there.
He leaned forward, grabbed Filly's hand, and asked urgently, "What is this?"
Elves rarely behaved in such a disrespectful manner, which startled both Filly and Ed.
"That's ...... The symbol of Nessas, those people believed that I was also a believer in Nessus, so they drew this ...... for me" Eric became a believer in Nessus as a matter of course, which was obviously more conducive to investigation, and when the villagers mistook him for Eric's brother, Filly acquiesced.
"Won't Lady Ni'e mind?" asked Ed, a little unkindly.
"Hey, she'll know I didn't explain it all in order to figure it out!" Filly glared at him dissatisfied, "Do you need me to send a light to prove it?" He looked at the elf who was still clutching his hand, "You know this?"
Norway let go of his hand in silence.
