Chapter Eighty-Six: In the Shadows

Ed and Norvi have not yet returned, and have already brought some rare good news to the frustrated Mock Copperflame. He received a message from his contacts in Cam that two of the largest dealers in the area, the Silver Fang Dwarf, had significantly increased the price of their Dwarven artefacts, and was eager to meet with Mork as soon as possible.

Mock shook his head, wondering how Ed managed to convince the harsh and suspicious jewellers of the Northland with that young, innocent face that had not yet learned how to hide his emotions.

This somewhat lightened his burden, but he didn't immediately go to Cam. He had dealt with humans many times and knew that in such situations, proper delay would be beneficial.

He spends more of his energy looking for clues to that mysterious necromancer. Duane was in fact the only one who had spoken to the necromancer, but even he could only give a vague description.

They were blocked by the mage in the dark of night in a deserted alley near the docks of Visa. The mage's black robe seemed to blend into the night, and the wide hood obscured most of his face, leaving only his pale chin and bloodless lips visible. To prove his identity, he summoned the undead in the city.

There was no shortage of dry bones in the alleys that had died for unknown reasons, and when they saw an arm that was only the white bones of Sensen sticking out of the dirt under their feet, the men were already frightened, and regretted that they had not taken their companions, who were so powerful and did not know what they feared, that they had just come out to have fun, and no one wanted to bring a fool who could not speak.

The mage showed them the way into the mine and gave them a potion of invisibility. Although they knew that the mages must have other purposes, under the temptation of wealth and the threat of death, they still came to the Silver Tooth Mountains under the pretext of looking for the ice dragon.

They met Isis on the way. When they suddenly saw the brown robed mage apprentice that the ice dragon had turned into, they thought it was someone sent by the necromancer, but they didn't dare to ask directly. The young mage was just cold and silent under their side knocks, his light blue eyes like a glacier on the top of a mountain that would not melt for thousands of years.

They boldly asked him if he wanted to go to the dwarven pit together, and the young mage nodded. It wasn't until they entered the dwarf's crypt that they realized that he might not have anything to do with the necromancer at all. He could see in the dark, but that's about it, he preferred to use brute force rather than spells against any obstacles, and Duane showed undisguised disgust on his face when he pretended to inadvertently mention the word necromancer.

So, when Akan leaned in to look at the unfathomable hole, they slammed the mage down, completely oblivious to Akhan, who was knocked down at the same time - they could not predict what would happen if the necromancer heard that they had brought an unknown person into the dwarven pit, and the best thing to do was to make the young mage disappear completely.

How could they have thought it would be a dragon!

They also forgot that it would disable the magic of the Invisibility Potion. Later they discovered that the potion was time-only even if it didn't come into contact with anyone. They are destined to be discovered.

The necromancer needed not anything they had stolen, but the chaos they had created, and at that point, they had done their job quite competently.

Mork's only gain was that the necromancer had appeared in Visa. It was a city under the guardianship of the water god's paladin, less than half a day's journey from the Collins Plains, the sacred land of the water god, and it stands to reason that a necromancer should not dare to be so blatant.

He sincerely hopes that Ed, from Visa, can tell him more.

Ed and Norway had returned earlier than Mock had expected, and the news they had brought back was beyond his expectations.

The first time Ed heard the word necromancer was from a failed adventure with Isis and Naria years ago. He didn't see the skeleton warrior who had been lost in the passage of the underground river for an unknown amount of time, but he only learned from Is's mouth that it proved that the necromancer who summoned it was still alive, and that the skeleton warrior was still wearing Anktan's armor. Considering the years of war in Anktan, it's not surprising that there are necromancers who take advantage of the opportunity to get involved.

"Why did you suddenly ask about the Necromancer?" Ed asked, somewhat puzzled.

He had expected Mork to know more about how he had persuaded the merchants to raise the price, but as soon as they returned, Mork was dragged into a small room and asked if he knew anything related to the necromancer. The confident and modest narration he had prepared for a long time lost his audience, which made him feel a little disappointed.

"Thanks to the little red-haired girl, we have learned the truth from the mouths of those men. A necromancer deliberately let them into the mine to cause chaos, and then stole an item with powerful magic from King Kogan. And that mage once appeared in Visa. ”

Mock didn't say what it was, and Ed wisely didn't ask. Dwarves like to keep their wealth a secret, and it's good that Mock can tell him that.

"Actually, I just met a necromancer a few days ago. Norwe, who had been sitting silent, suddenly spoke, and this sentence surprised Ed a little.

"In Cam?" he asked, remembering that the elf had suddenly stopped on the side of the street and looked at a corner of the market.

Norway nodded.

"You didn't even tell me!" said Ed, sadly, for he had never kept anything to the elves.

"I don't want to cause more trouble until I'm sure his presence has something to do with our journey. Norway explained apologetically, "I saw him walk into a hotel around the corner. I went to look for it that night, but the people at the hotel said he had left not long after dark, and they couldn't even tell which way he was going......"

"You didn't tell me this either!" shouted Ed. He did suspect that Norway would sneak out alone that night, and insisted on staying in the same room with the elves, but soon fell asleep uselessly, and when he opened his eyes, Norway was already packing his belongings and looked as if he had never left the room.

“...... Ed, you're becoming more and more like Tess. Norway couldn't help but sigh.

This sentence made Ed honestly shut his mouth.

"Why do you recognize him?" Mock asked, the elf's words sounding strange to him, "I don't think a necromancer would stay in a hotel dressed in black robes. ”

"Because I followed him, in Stonebug. Nori replied calmly.
