Chapter 177: Ice and Fire
“...... Who are you?"
Iss blurted out.
Even though he was badly scarred on the right side of his face, the man in front of him had a face that he would not mistake for Scott, but with a pair of golden eyes—like molten gold, with a hint of reddish like fire, and looked like the eyes of a dragon, except that the pupils were not vertical.
He didn't know if his eyes looked like this, proud, indifferent, empty, high above him, looking down on all beings...... But that won't be Scott's eyes.
The man didn't answer, just stared at him in silence, his eyes suddenly seemed to waver.
Behind him, several more undead rushed over. They have no fear, no pain, and until they receive new orders, they will only follow one after another, even if they are reduced to ashes.
The man turned his head, and a sonorous and strange spell spat out from his lips, and the blazing flames burst out, making Isdu unable to help but retreat.
The breath of the dragon.
Isis remembered Toom's description. It was indeed very similar, though not as powerful as a real flame dragon. But in human form, that's probably the only way to do it. The man was amazed by the short sentences he uttered—it was indeed the language of dragons, but even if humans could learn it, it would be impossible for them to grasp the power within.
"Are you...... A flame dragon?" Iss knew it sounded a little strange, but he could only think of this reason. If he could appear in human form, why couldn't the other dragons?
"Why do you want to be...... So?" he asked, with anger in his question. It was absolutely impossible for a human to turn into a human who looked like Scott, but he couldn't think of any intersection he or Scott had ever had with any dragon.
The man looked at him again.
"Is. He exclaimed softly.
The familiar voice was like a hammer that slammed into Is's heart.
He clenched his cane, and suddenly he was frightened and panicked, and he just wanted to turn and run away.
"S...... No, you're not...... He's not ......" he spoke incoherently and stiffly stepped back.
The man's gaze fell on his black robe. Anger overwhelmed everything in an instant.
He lunged forward, knocking Scott to the ground. One hand grabbed him by the neck, and the other clenched into a fist and slammed into Is's face.
Is's head was buzzing. He was defenseless, just staring at Scott in a daze. His eyes widened in surprise and dazedness, without even a little resistance. Whatever he had said to Ed, whatever he denied...... In his heart, he always thought that Scott could not hurt him.
And now, the face in front of him was hideous that Iss had never seen before.
He heard the cry of a soul in his heart, sad and aggrieved like a child, and watched helplessly at the little hope that was hidden so deep that even he had not discovered, but never disappeared, that little by little was shattered into powder.
"You want to kill me?" with confusion and despair. His voice was so soft that it seemed to be blown away by his breath.
As if frightened by that sentence, Scott's hand suddenly loosened, and the second punch that couldn't land hesitated in mid-air, his expression changing.
"Ed......" he finally squeezed out a complete sentence, "Where's Ed?"
- He thought he had killed Ed?
"Dead. Iss stared at him coldly. The long-frozen rage roared, "I'll kill him." ”
Scott shook his head, his face pale. He opened his mouth, but there was no sound between his slightly trembling lips
"Isn't that what you want? Eth sneered, gold spreading under his eyes, and his fingertips turned into claws, gripping Scott's wrist tightly. "A good reason to kill me!"
He slammed it hard, pulled away Scott's hand that was holding his throat, and knocked Scott far away with his whole body.
Scott's confused soul was once again enveloped by the pain as his back slammed into the hard rock, and he summoned the flames without thinking, the red light that symbolized destruction was completely obscured by a dazzling silvery-white light.
The sound of the dragon's roar was long and majestic. shook the entire cavern.
Scott breathed. For the first time, he saw Is's original form—he was still young, but his body was as large as his mother's, white scales as bright as a knight's armor, and long sharp horns with a series of sparks streaked across the rocks at the top of the cavern.
The ice dragon stretched its wings, and the widest space in the cave was barely enough for it to walk a dozen steps.
The interplay of fighting* and the urge to quietly admire and even touch the magical creature struck Scott's consciousness. But the beast had already growled. Straight at him.
Scott instinctively fell to the ground and rolled away. The ice dragon quickly restrained his steps, but when he turned around, his right hand seemed to be weak, and his body shook a little, almost losing his balance, and his long flexible and powerful tail whipped down a large rock.
It growled in exasperation, raised its left paw, and slapped it heavily at Scott.
Unarmed, Scott once again struggled to escape, got up and rushed into a passageway.
The ice dragon couldn't get into the narrow hole, so it hung its head and opened its mouth to the hole, and the sound in its chest was like a howling winter wind.
Scott had heard the same voice - when they faced Ankramaaras Iceray twenty years ago, the weakest ice dragon's most formidable weapon was that it was colder than ice, spitting out everything in an instant. If they hadn't had both a powerful mage and a mysterious priest, they wouldn't have survived such an attack.
Sko was particularly indiscriminate in his fight with fire.
When ice and fire collided, even the rocks and mountains began to tremble.
Nothing could withstand such a mixture of fire and ice, and the rock at the top of the passage where Scott was located collapsed, and the ground cracked. Scott had no choice but to keep backing away.
The ice dragon rushed through the falling rocks with its long thorny tail into the passage, flapping blindly, and when it touched Scott, it slammed into the wind, grabbed him by the waist, and dragged him out and threw him to the ground.
Scott's head hit the ground and he couldn't get up for a long time.
Several undead surrounded him, and Scott glared at the weapon that had been slashed at his head to avoid it, but his body that had been thrown to the ground was completely unresponsive.
With a roar, the long tail flicked over again, slapping the undead far away.
- It saved him.
A vague thought flashed through him. In the midst of all the doubts and uneasiness, the huge head of the ice dragon appeared in his field of vision.
It hung its head at him. The light in the cave was extremely dim, but its golden eyes seemed to glow, under the chilling anger and murderous intent. There seems to be something that Scott can't believe and admit.
It stared at him, but didn't attack, a chilling breath curling a layer of hoarfrost on Scott's face.
Scott's fingertips touched a bit of cold metal, and the sharp edge gave him a hint of pain. It was probably a weapon that some undead had dropped on the ground.
The instinct to fight and survive made Scott fumble and grasp the weapon, a two-handed greatsword, and slashed at the ice dragon's head.
Even though it couldn't penetrate the scales, the pain of the blow caused the ice dragon to jerk its head up and roar and swing its left claw.
Scott rolls to the right and rolls over. He had already noticed that there seemed to be something wrong with the ice dragon's right front paw.
A simple spell boosts his power for a short time. As he shouted that word, Scott jumped up and slammed into his right paw.
The ice dragon screamed in pain. The whole body retreats backwards. Its right front paw is visibly deformed, and it can no longer bear its weight.
The voice made Scott's heart pound. But he simply didn't have time to hesitate. The ice dragon was inhaling deeply, and he could only try his best to escape from the range of the spit as he summoned the flames again.
The flames seemed to be burning his soul at the same time. His consciousness was strangely flickering and flickering, as if it had been surrendered to instinct - or some more powerful force to manipulate it.
- Get out of here!!
He roared in his heart. His body froze strangely, and the summoned flames suddenly changed direction and inexplicably slammed into the top of the cave, and the claws of the ice dragon that could clearly cut through his body only swept by his side.
"Do you want to send more undead?"
When they discovered that more of their warriors had been blown away by the ice dragon than by the priest, a necromancer mustered up the courage to ask, "The ice dragon...... I don't seem to like us meddling. ”
Toom was silent for a moment, then shook his head.
"Everybody get out of this place. ”
The tremors above his head and under his feet made him a little uneasy. Flames and ice alternated against the rocks, and large chunks of stone were already falling. The ground has also collapsed in several places. That altar had been destroyed to the ground. Toom sincerely hopes that those guys in hell won't count this on the necromancer's head.
Another violent jolt sent him back and forth. He thought that maybe the whole mountain would be blown down by the dragon and the priest who was so unreasonably strong. His secret was in another cave farther away—a corner of the giant's ruins—but it was hard to say if it would be affected.
"It's already dark, let's retreat to the Valley of Thunder first. "Then go to the newly discovered cave with a hot spring nearby." ”
And he had to summon the undead he had hidden in the secret place, pack up all his belongings, and leave as soon as possible, even though the battle was a rare sight. Some people probably don't want to miss out even if they risk their lives.
The ice dragon's massive body was not very nimble in the cave, and it seemed to have been injured a little, but it used its long tail wisely. The priest spent most of his time just trying to run around, using spells to attack in between runs, hiding, and rolling. What makes it a little strange to Toom is that sometimes it looks like he can hit the other person. Both sides will miss out inexplicably.
Maybe it's because of some kind of protective spell - Toom can only guess.
But if the mountain peak overhead does step down, even a well-protected ice dragon has little chance of survival.
With regret, Toom took one last look at the chaotic and alarming battle in the cave with only one man and one dragon, and turned away.
