Chapter 920: Allies (Part II)
A low humming sound of water filled his ears, followed by a slight vibration of the soles of his feet. Because when you're underground, the sensation is stronger than when you're on the ground. Borena unconsciously leaned against the stone wall, uneasy at realizing that this time the tremor seemed different.
It lasted for a long time, and even had a weird rhythm that made his heartbeat unconsciously synchronize with it. The dullness that seemed to explode at any moment piled up in his chest, and his mind felt like he had been stuffed into a puddle of mud, heavy and chaotic.
Iss gripped his hand and tightened it again, the coldness and pain that brought back to his senses.
The shaking had stopped somewhere, and there was a dead silence in the darkness. Borena was used to such silence, but now he felt the first fear.
He looked at Is, silently glad that he wasn't alone at the moment. The night vision given by magic does not allow him to see the other person's expression clearly. Perhaps because of his low body temperature, the shimmer of Is's silhouette in his eyes was closer to that of a rock, and only by looking closely could he see the subtle and complex changes, like the soft rainbow light flowing on the pearl.
It's funny.
Borena thought a little heartlessly, and gradually regained his composure.
"Do you know how to leave?" Iss asked him, with a urgency in his voice that he hadn't had before.
Borena nodded: "Yes." ”
He didn't plan to throw his life here, the first thing to ensure was his own retreat...... But he didn't have time to leave.
"That's ...... Fog?"
His eyes widened in surprise as he watched the fog pouring into the other side of the passage - why could he see it in a completely dull darkness?
Then he realized, there was light in the mist.
A dim, gray, lifeless light. Even if you haven't touched it yet, the chill has already soaked into the bottom of your heart. Borena shuddered unconsciously as he remembered the fog of death that had taken his father's life before his eyes, hoping that it was just bluffing, like the gray fog that had once surrounded the Temple of Collins.
Unfortunately not.
Isis gritted his teeth and cursed something in a low voice, slamming the stone wall. The ice condensed into a wall in the blink of an eye, and Borena was about to touch it in surprise, already being rudely dragged in the other direction.
The mist chased from every passage, cold and silent, and there was no way to avoid it. Walls of ice created with magic are not resistant to the erosion of the mist, and it will not take long for them to crumble.
Completely surrounded, Borena took a deep breath and grabbed Is.
"You'd better close your eyes. He said, tapping the ring on the middle finger of his left hand and reciting a slightly stiff incantation.
He's almost full of rings on his hands—and that's not just decoration.
The dazzling white light bloomed between his fingers like a newborn star. Instinctively, Iss retreated, only to be grabbed back by Borena.
The scope of this holy light is not large.
Borena glanced at Is, "Ed said you weren't afraid of the Light. ”
"Of course I'm not afraid!" Ise indignant, "just annoying!"
As disgusted as he was, he stiffened within the reach of the Light. Judging by this, the mist hovering outside the light could probably kill him just as well.
Never before has Borena faced the fog of death for so long. Under the holy light, he saw its true face for the first time—countless twisted figures entangled, devouring and separating each other, condensing and disappearing, each blurred face silently crying out resentment and unwillingness, pain and despair, dark eyes and mouth as if leading to eternal hell......
"Don't look. Isis reminded coldly.
Borena came back to her senses, in a cold sweat.
He was a little confused. The Dead Mist is clearly a necromancer's specialty, is it here to stop Scott, or is it just trying to take advantage of the fire?
He stole a glance at Is's darkened face, not daring to discuss it with him.
The fog never dissipated. The light in his hand was bright and firm, like a lighthouse in the mist. The high priest who gave him the ring had told him that as long as the ring was not destroyed, the light would never be extinguished...... But they can't stand here forever.
"Can you find the source of the fog?" asked Borena.
Isis nodded, then shook his head again.
"More than one. He replied angrily and helplessly.
Predictable.
"And can you find your brother?" said Borena.
Isis nodded silently.
Now Borena can clearly see the struggle in his eyes. He was desperate to find Scott, and he was equally anxious about his friend.
This dragon has a heart softer than many humans, but it is ...... Not very smart.
"We are already far from the exit. "At least it's far from the one I know." Unless you have a way to get out of here faster, find Scott as soon as possible...... Maybe a better option. ”
The Light could dispel the fog of death, and Scott was able to destroy it once and for all—he had seen it with his own eyes. No matter where the fog came from, that guy wouldn't let Isis die here.
After a few moments, Iss pointed out a direction: "...... Over there. ”
The lighthouse turned into a ship and began to move through the fog. Borena remained a protected person, quietly following Ise. But at least, Iss didn't hold him like a useless piece of waste.
The king of Anktann was pleased with the fact that he had straightened his beard - he had always been an easily satisfied man.
He wasn't so arrogant as to think that the innocent and awkward dragon had taken him as a friend, but now ...... How many allies are they?
.
The mist fills the dark underground, harvesting all life without distinction, regardless of their purpose. This is not an open ground, and the people who are surrounded have nowhere to escape, and the clever guys simply let the collapsed rock block the passage - if it is possible to suffocate to death, at least to avoid the immediate danger.
Only a few are left to continue their operations.
When Ed crouched down for the third time, Nigel couldn't help but grab him.
"Is this already dead at first glance?!" he shouted, not caring if he would be heard—the light that shrouded him was eye-catching enough.
Ed looked back at Travis and didn't say anything. Indeed, the faces of the people lying on the ground were completely dead...... But Travis's face wasn't much worse.
He's still alive.
"Ed Singal," Nigel sighed, "you can't save everybody." If you try to do this again, you may be able to kill more people. ”
It is true that there is not a hint of life on the fingertips. Ed withdrew his hand and stood up, erasing the last luck in his heart.
"How much longer?" he asked.
.
