Chapter 5: The Return
The carriage traveled on the Collins Plains.
Spring in the north is short and warm, with pulsatilla, bellflower, plum, ambition, feverfew...... Countless wildflowers bloomed under the horses' hooves, and Naria had to often avoid the flowers she loved, leaving the wagon zigzag on the flat ground.
"If you listen to me and follow the road, we are here now. Someone was moaning behind her back.
"I love these flowers!" said Narya, exclaiming, without looking back.
"You can see these flowers as long as you walk along the road!"
"That's completely different. Naria said confidently, continuing to drive the carriage on its way.
"You're about to wake up Is. The person behind reminded her.
Naria snorted, "He won't complain like you do." β
Having said that, she tried to get the horses to start walking in a straight line.
Alan Carvo straightened his back, thumped his aching back, and looked at his daughter's back helplessly and contentedly. The wind was a little strong, and the thick black curls were draped over her shoulders, dancing with the wind, reminding him of his wife's youth.
He lost her prematurely, and he wasn't even with her when she died.
He was glad that Naria was as cheerful and forgiving as her mother. She forgave him, though he could never forgive himself.
Someone moved around him, and Isis really woke up.
The blonde-haired, blue-eyed teenager sat up and looked around a little blankly.
"We're almost there, Is, and this is the plains of Collins. Cavo patted the boy on the back, "Are you hungry? I'm a little hungry." β
"I'll be there before dinner!" Naria shouted in the wind, "Alan Cavo, eat your apples!"
Alan sighed and took out two apples and handed one to Is: "Be careful not to bite your face, you have no idea when this car will suddenly turn." β
Iss smiled and took the apple and took a bite. The wind blew his soft blonde hair toasted and he looked a little more energetic than usual.
He didn't know when he fell asleep. He had thought that at least on the way home, he would not be able to sleep.
Yes, home, after almost six years away, he is about to return to ...... At least where you can see Chrysers Castle.
Six years ago, he left his brother behind and followed Alan Carvo to his home hidden in the rolling southern hills. For a long time, he would sit in front of the window, waiting for the man who promised to come and pick him up soon.
He wasn't disliking Cavo, he even liked Naria, her simple, straightforward, black curls a little like Lydia. But there was no one to replace Scott Criesers, his only relative.
And when the news of the end of the war came, Scott did not appear.
Alan Cavo had been away for a while, and came back exhausted and alone, too evasive to look into Is's expectant eyes.
The next day he told Is: "He's missing." β
The older man carefully weighed the words: "In the final battle to capture Stonebutch." Many people saw him, but by the end of the battle, he was gone. His body was never found. He may still be alive, he may be injured, or he may have been taken to safety...... We'll find him. β
The boy looked at him for a long time, as if he didn't quite understand what he was talking about, and finally nodded and whispered, "He's still alive." β
His tone was so sure that it made Alan wonder if he really knew something.
Then he saw drops of water dripping on the boy's hands.
Naria, who had been pretending to be busy on the side, threw down what she was holding and walked over, hugged the boy's head almost rudely, and said loudly, "Of course he's still alive." Alan said he would find him, and he would do what he said. The girl glared at her father, "Alan Carvo, come and swear." β
But her face was pleading, and her brown eyes were moist in her reddened sockets.
Alan solemnly raised a hand: "I swear." I'll find your brother, Is. β
Since then, Isis has spent more and more time sleeping. Occasionally, he would collapse so suddenly that he would fall asleep for days. Eren fears that it is because the human form cannot imprison the power of the dragon for a long time, and perhaps one day it will lead to a catastrophe that he cannot prevent. But other than that, the boy is normal, his eyes are always blue, his face has never had scales, and although he looks a little thin, he has never been sick.
He just grew more and more silent and worryingly quiet every year.
And so the time passed. When Isis was fifteen years old, news of Derian's death came from the north. The fact that the tormented man died of a long-lasting and incurable illness may have been a relief for him.
"We moved to Karnak and Delian left everything he had to me. "One day at dinner, Alan told the two children. He knew that there were no more people left in or around Fort Crissburg who knew Iss and him, and that it was close to the Temple of Collins, so it was easier for him to inquire about it, and perhaps better for Is.
They always move once in a few years, and Naria just shrugged her shoulders indifferently and glared sternly at Is's plate, "You didn't even eat half of it!"
Iss opened his mouth at her and said that he was still eating, that he used to be polite, but now that he didn't care about it more and more, Eren didn't know if he should be happy about it.
"Karnak. Alan repeated, "Is, don't you remember?"
Iss gave him a confused look, nonchalantly poking at the roast chicken breast on his plate.
"It was a village near the castle of Christus. β
The knife slammed heavily on the plate.
"Shall we go back to Chrisses?" Iss looked at Allen, his eyes full of anticipation.
"Just going to Karnak. Alan cleared his throat in embarrassment: "It's ...... in the castle right now There are other people, people you don't know, and we're afraid it's inconvenient for us to stay there until we find Scott. β
The boy hung his head.
"If you don't want to go......," Alan said tentatively.
"I want to go. Isis replied quickly, then looked at him carefully, "Is that okay? Although I have never been to Karnak...... Aside from the castle, Scott has only taken me to Ekwood Forest. β
Alan nodded, "Karnak is on the other side of the forest. "Scott clearly protected Isis very well - maybe a little too much.
Isis pushed the plate away, and he didn't want to eat anymore.
"Shall we leave tomorrow?" he asked.
They set out three days later and rode north against the Vinez River, crossing almost the entire continent. In Visa, they changed carriages, bought everything Naria thought a new home would use, and went into the vast plains of Collins.
This rich plain, dotted with lakes of all sizes, has long been regarded as the sacred place of the water goddess Nyo, forbidden to grazing and hunting, and is surrounded by only herds of animals and the occasional knight who guards the sanctuary.
Alan recognized one of them, and the knight nodded to him slightly.
"Your brother was one of them. Alan told Is. The boy's eyes sparkled, and the strange plain suddenly became familiar and intimate.
He was excited for a while, but soon after that he fell asleep until he woke up from the jolt.
As Isis nibbled on the apple, Alan poked his head out, and he could already faintly see the small mountain rising from the ground in front of him, which looked almost rocky and strange compared to the flourishing vegetation beneath his feet.
"To that side," he pointed to his daughter, "there is a road at the foot of the mountain, and from there it goes through the forest." β
"That mountain looks really ...... bare," Naria sighed in amazement, "has it always been like this?"
No.
Alan replied silently in his heart. He would never tell his daughter stories about the mountain.
Even though that's a good story.
The arrival of the Cavo family did not attract much attention. The villagers naturally accepted Alan as "the one who had come to inherit the carpenter Derian's legacy, his poor lame brother - and, of course, a carpenter". They even received a number of gifts, and the able carpenter, who had always been a popular figure in the village, decided how to return the gift to Naria for days on end with a lively and straight face and feigned impatience.
"You are my son, Ehron Derian's son, Iss Delian, and Naria Delian is your sister, understand?" Before leaving, he told the children that Iss hesitated, that the surname was his last contact with his brother, and he didn't want to give up, but in the end he nodded reluctantly, which made Alan breathe a sigh of relief.
He was sure that no one knew them here, but it was always better to be careful.
"I like the term 'sister'. Naria said happily.
"Sister. Isis called her naturally, as if he had called her a thousand times, without the slightest reluctance.
Naria's eyebrows raised.
"We're going to have a roast leg of lamb tonight!" she announced.
Isis smiled. For the first time in his life, Alan felt that his smile was actually a little bit like that of the half-elf priest, and when he was occasionally less gloomy, Celebrian smiled like that, mixing elven innocence with human cunning.
It only took about ten days for Naria to conquer the entire village with her hearty smile and delicious snacks. Northerners aren't very good at the delicate southern food, but that doesn't mean they don't like it. Soon, the Delian's house welcomed an unexpected guest, and Cavo, who had been away from working as a carpenter, learned the news when he returned home.
"ChΓ’teau ChΓ’teau de Crissus sent to say that their hostess wanted to eat the little snack I had made. Naria stood in the middle of the house with her waist crossed, looking up a little smugly: "They said I could take my brother with me. β
Eren was silent for a moment, unsure if it was a good idea, but he couldn't refuse Is's expectant look. In fact, the castle of Chrysers is completely invisible in this village, it is hidden by the forest, and Isis is disappointed to find this.
"Okay. In the end, he had to agree: "Remember ......"
"Won't let anyone know who I am. Iss raised his hand and swore.
"Won't cause any trouble. Naria assured.
Alan nodded heavily. But he had a hunch that everything would never go so smoothly.
qidian.
