Chapter 292: The Only Trial

Realizing that they were on the same path they had taken last time, Ed began to get excited - and inevitably get a little carried away.

"We're here to see Feel...... "Is she waiting for me?" he asked hopefully, "is she waiting for me?"

He asked more than once, and Sean didn't answer once, nor did he impatiently tell him to "shut up" like Celebryan, but that didn't affect Ed's good mood at all.

Whether it's a trial or another round of "learning", it will definitely be quite easy and enjoyable to follow Felicity.

His soul had great power, Felicity had said, and he just had to learn how to use it! Maybe he could really be a great priest......

He also brought the crystal ball...... Maybe Felicity has a way to get it back to its original state?

Thinking all the way, he almost squeezed past Sean impatiently when the black wooden door opened again. Sean grabbed his arm with such force that it seemed like it was about to crush his bones.

Ed glared at him in bewilderment, but Sean quickly let go of his arm and continued to lead the way in front.

This room with its tiny fountain and rainbow is not the end.

Ed heard Sean spit out a short incantation in a deep voice, and was silently descending against the walls of the fountain, a staircase descending in the darkness.

Ed was slightly uneasy - people who are saints should not need to live in such a secret room, there is not even a little light in it......

As Sean stepped forward, he couldn't help but follow.

The wall closed silently behind him. The surroundings were not as dark as they had imagined, the walls and rocks were covered with light blue lines like water ripples. Silently glowing softly, and as Sean's footsteps grew brighter and brighter, it wasn't long before the room felt like it was underwater, with sparkling waves and an out-of-this-world silence.

But this chamber is so small that you don't have to turn your head to see everything. Ed shuddered for no apparent reason, trying not to look at the white one in the center of the room. Appears to be translucent...... Stone box.

He wouldn't admit it, he wouldn't believe it, but it was really...... It's a sarcophagus.

The heart began to beat wildly at irregular intervals. He frantically searched the small room for the kind old man—but she was clearly not here.

"Why did you bring me here?" he asked, flustered, "where is Felicity?

Sean had been silently staring at the white stone box, and finally turned to face him.

"She's right here. His voice was muffled in the airtight room. "Ed Singh. She asked me to tell you that it is impossible for a man who cannot see death to hear the voice of God. ”

"Dead ...... Dead ......," Ed repeated in a daze, completely unable to comprehend what he was hearing, "what are you talking about?"

"I'm telling you that the Holy One is gone. The Paladin's voice was calm, but Ed could finally hear the great sadness in it.

"That can't be...... The impossible ......" Ed muttered to himself, sitting limply on the steps. There was a blank in my mind, "I obviously saw her, less than ten days ago." Right here......"

"Then you should be well aware that you are not seeing a real person. Sean's flat voice sounded so cold and unforgiving.

"But that's still her, isn't it? how could she ...... Why ......" Ed clutched his head tightly, realizing in despair that what he actually knew, he had known long ago, long before he had come here......

Who ever tried to tell him, and he refused to understand?

"I know the miracle you've done, Ed...... Because here I am, thousands of miles away from Llewellyn, witnessing a miracle happening...... And the price to pay for it. This world has its rules, one life returns, one life leaves...... I don't know if it's worth it, but it's not up to me. ”

Tears slipped uncontrollably from the corners of the eyes. Yes, he knew, he had watched the white, blue-eyed girl drop a gentle kiss on Borena's forehead, and then look up and smile at him.

He should have understood the faint sadness in that smile.

- And he chose to forget, just to protect himself.

Ed struggled to shrink himself into smaller balls, listening to Sean's footsteps pass by him, each heavy as a drum, pounding heavily on his heart.

"I can't be your guide...... But you have chosen your path by coming here of your own free will, and I am commanded to protect it. The wall lowered silently again, leaving Ed alone in this hidden place that no one knew, and the paladin's last words were clear to Ed.

"Your only trial is here, Ed Thuruk Singel, face yourself. ”.

Some things, if they were just dreams, would be great.

No matter what kind of nightmare you wake up, you just have to tell yourself that it's not real, and you don't need to care.

Ed Singal had many strange dreams - and he loved to dream, and it felt like he could get out of this space and walk through a myriad of wonderful worlds, without being held accountable for what he said, what he did, or what ended him.

Later, when he gradually realized that his dream might not be just a dream, he had a little panic - what if the mistake he made in the dream really hurt someone in a certain world, and he never had a chance to make amends?

For a while, he couldn't even sleep because he was afraid of dreaming. But at the moment, he wanted to dream...... Even if it was to escape, if he continued to stay sober here, he felt that he might go crazy.

He didn't know how long Sean Fletcher had been gone. It wasn't dark in the small chamber, and the soft light was always flowing around him like water, but it was so cold here...... It's bone-chilling colder than the Ice Dragon's cave.

What made him even more unbearable was the deathly silence around him. He couldn't hear the sound of talking, the sound of footsteps. Even the almost ubiquitous sound of running water in the temple of the god of water could not be heard.

He couldn't even hear his own heartbeat - if it was still beating.

Sometimes he felt that he had been sitting on the cold stone steps for thousands of years, his body had long since turned to dry bones, but his soul could not linger. Because of the mistakes he has committed. He is imprisoned here forever until the end of the world.

The mistakes he made......

The white sarcophagus was close at hand, but he didn't have the courage to get any closer.

If everything is just a dream......

Like a small bubble popping up from the bottom of the water, a thought came out of his cold, dead mind - but it wasn't a dream, it wasn't somewhere he didn't know it was, if it existed, and that he could never go back. That at least means...... He still has a chance to make amends!

He jerked to his feet, his stiff legs unable to move, a pinprick pain. The whole person fell forward uncontrollably, and fell firmly on the smooth and stiff marble floor.

No one here would pick him up in concern, and no one would laugh at his clumsiness.

Without saying a word, he got up and half-knelt by the sarcophagus. He hesitated for a moment. Only then did he grit his teeth and wanted to remove the lid of the coffin, but his trembling hands couldn't exert any strength.

He wanted to see Felicity again...... Whatever Felicity was, he wanted to see her, and even if he couldn't answer any of his questions, it would at least give him a little courage.

Yes, Ed Singal is a useless man, and his courage never comes from his own heart, but from the inspiration of others...... So he needs friends. More than anyone else needs. He will never be able to survive alone.

Isis can easily open the sarcophagus...... But he's not here.

There was no one here to help him, except himself.

Ed stared blankly at the sarcophagus. Felicity once said that there was power in his soul...... But he didn't feel it at all. If no one comes and tells him what to do......

- "Do you know how the gods created the world? ”

Scott had told him that Keller Brian never...... If "thinking" really worked, then he wanted to meet Felicity. Very, very much......

The light that was slowly flowing through the chamber suddenly lost its rhythm, and the light flow paused for a moment, then slammed into each other chaotically, flashing silent sparks, and then finally found its way and began to turn rapidly.

Ed didn't see that at all. He just looked at the sarcophagus without blinking, and the heavy lid suddenly made a soft sound, as if it was being held up smoothly by some force, rising little by little, and then sliding silently to the side, as if there was no weight at all.

-- The coffin was empty.

Ed's eyes widened in confusion as he looked at the slender white cane in the coffin - whatever it was, it couldn't have been Felicity anyway.

Countless thoughts flashed through my mind in an instant.

- Felicity is alive!

- Sean Fletcher lied!

- Bastard Iron Shell, die!!

- Where's Felicity?

- Does she know all this? -

- Is she really alive?......

He actually ...... Doesn't that know the answer?......

Before he knew it, he had grabbed the cane. He couldn't tell what kind of wood it was—or if it wasn't, and though it looked like the weight of wood in his hand, it felt more like stone to the touch, smooth and shiny, and even slightly warm. The whole cane was taller than his own, and there was no pattern except for the tip carved into a cluster of slightly swirling waves. It reminds Ed of Is's oak staff, and maybe there's a spell that changes shape?

Just a thought, a sentence that I had never heard before flowed naturally from my lips. The waves at the top of the cane suddenly came to life—the waves splashed on Ed's face, cold and pleasant, and a soft glow floated in the slightly diffused water, swaying like a leisurely fish.

Ed stared dumbfounded, a smile piling up in his eyes.

That little bit of light...... For some reason, it reminded him of Felicity's flailing, long ponytail.

In the blink of an eye, the cane returned to its original shape.

(To be continued......)
