Chapter 20: When to Return
I don't know exactly how long I hid under the middle board, and I didn't wait for my grandfather to open the middle board.
During the waiting, I didn't hear anything from the outside world, and even the family boat never seemed to move.
When I collapsed from hunger, I rummaged under the middle board in the dark hoping to find some food, but under the middle board, except for the bedding pillow, there was only a booklet pressed under the pillow.
Even so, I don't want to open the midplane too early.
I hope that the middle plate is opened by Grandpa, then, Grandpa is still safe.
I thought about tearing up the booklet to satisfy my hunger, but I was worried that the booklet might be very important to my grandfather.
I didn't open the midplate until I felt like I was going to starve to death.
In the early morning of a cloudy day, the entire shallow bay was empty.
Dozens of family ships that were originally docked in shallow bays have been damaged to varying degrees, and dried blood stains can be seen everywhere on the ship's side and deck.
Is Grandpa still alive?
I didn't have time to know my grandfather's full name.
The conditions in the shallow bay made my eyes sour, and I blinked my eyes to find cooked food to fill my stomach as soon as possible, and then tried to hold the boat to the shore.
It's just that I can't hold the boat away from the place.
I then found plastic sheeting, wrapped the clothes, shoes, socks, and hats that the boatman had brought back, as well as the Emei thorns, and the booklet that I had brought out from under the middle board, tied them around my waist, and jumped into the water.
I couldn't swim and drowned as scheduled after falling into the water.
As my body fell to the bottom, I remembered myself as I grew up.
She knelt at the bottom of the sea, her hands hanging as motionless as stone statues, her long hair wet and sticking to her neck, and large patches of blood spread from her chest and waist, staining the sea around her red.
I learned the same posture as I used to watch people swim, my legs pressed down desperately, and my hands on my chest quickly touched the water horizontally, but fortunately I gradually floated out of the water.
I swam to the shore with difficulty, and after a short rest after going ashore, I changed my clothes, put on my shoes and socks, and put on my hat as soon as possible and left the shore.
I'm Gu Thrush.
I didn't see Grandpa's body in Shallow Bay, and Grandpa must not be dead.
Grandpa was just no longer able to protect me, and he promised me that he would find me again, so I had to save my life until he came to pick me up.
It's just, where am I going next?
As I left the shore, I looked around blankly, and as far as I could see, a flock of crows scattered from a nearby tree in all directions.
I quickened my pace to the crowded place, and met a middle-aged woman with a baby girl in her arms.
The girl giggled, and the middle-aged woman's eyes were full of smiles.
As they passed me, they all rolled their eyes and asked in unison in a gloomy tone when I would return.
My scalp was numb and I stopped in my tracks.
They rubbed shoulders with me and then returned to normal, as if I had just been dazzled and hallucinated.
I continued to move forward with a steady mind, and all the people I met along the way, whether men, women, young or old, would suddenly roll their eyes and ask me when I would return.
When will it return?
Where to go?
In the midst of the repeated inquiries, I pursed my lips and clenched the Emei thorn in my hand more and more, and unconsciously quickened my pace, gradually trotting up and running all the way back.
I ran until I was exhausted and away from the strange crowd before I stopped, when the sky rained down, obscuring my vision.
I couldn't see the road in the rain, so I just sat on the ground and waited for the rain to stop.
I sat down, and there was another whimper and cry from very close behind me.
I turned sharply to look back, but I couldn't see anything in the rainstorm, so I quickly got up and prepared my whole body for the stabbing blade.
"When will you return, when will you return......" The cry accompanied by repeated inquiries came from all directions, and the voice was eager to circulate to the heavens and the earth.
"Where are you going?" I stood still for a long time, and I didn't wait for the questioning to end, and then I answered in a cold voice.
The rain was so cold that I couldn't help but shiver with a tremor in the cold.
As I spoke, the cries and inquiries stopped abruptly, and another cold snort was heard clearly.
Before I could make out its location, I suddenly had a splitting headache and passed out in the darkness in front of my eyes.
By the time I realized myself again and opened my eyes, I was lying on the floor of the shop.
Outside, the sun was rising, and the door of the store was closed.
Except for the stonemason at the counter, the store was just as it had been when I left, and even the kerosene lamp on the counter was still spontaneously combusting.
My soaked clothes were still wet, and the headache hadn't completely gone away.
I slumped up from the ground, a chill rising from the soles of my feet and rushing to the top of my head.
The unseen danger is the most terrifying.
Who imprisoned me back here?!
I looked around and winced, but there seemed to be no better choice for the time being than to wash up and change clothes first.
Fortunately, the Emei thorn is still there, and the grandfather's booklet is not wet under the plastic sheeting.
After washing and changing, I put away the booklet and dried my wet clothes, then turned off the kerosene lamp on the counter and opened the door to continue the business.
As the door of the store was opened, the voices of Ding Boiling swept in.
I stood in the sunlight as if I were in a different world.
The shops on the street have new owners, and the street is as lively as ever.
I seem to be the only one who still remembers the killings that have taken place here.
No one cares, mine goes and returns.
There was a girl about four or five years old with pink makeup and jade masonry at this time holding two strings of sugar gourds from across the street jumping over, she was going to the shop next door, after seeing me, she was a little surprised and turned to jump towards me.
"Sister, give it to you. When she came to me, she bent her eyebrows and handed me a string of sugar gourds.
"Go away. I suppressed my emotions and said coldly, turned back to the store and began to organize the items on the shelves.
I didn't pay attention to her reaction or when she left, and she wasn't at the door when I put the shelves in order.
I lay down on the bench and closed my eyes, carefully reliving the experience of going ashore in my mind.
It turned out that the so-called when to return was urging me to return to the store, and the answer to where to go was to return to the store.
The cold snort was dissatisfied, and I didn't consciously think about returning to the underworld store to continue to operate without control.
I had a splitting headache as a punishment for it.
Who is in the shadows, who is it, and what is the purpose of imprisoning me in the shop?
Now that the shadows have begun to emerge, if I dare not return to the store as soon as possible under uncontrolled circumstances, I will really die because of it.
The words of the warlock are indeed true.
Who is in the shadows, now that the clues have emerged, if the old lady hairpin tracks it down again, will it block the external calamity for me?
Now that there is no one to protect me, I can only continue to stay in the shop until my wings grow hard or my grandfather comes to pick me up again.
I thought about it so much that I couldn't help but sour my eyes.
I knew that I still needed to come back here after going around and around, so why did I need to bother my grandfather's life and death?
For the rest of the day, no one came to disturb me.
Except for eating, drinking, and lazing, I spent the rest of my time resting on a wicker chair.
When the time came, I closed the door and lit the kerosene lamp on the counter, practicing the moves of the Emei thorn while waiting for the ghost customer to arrive.
At one or two o'clock in the morning, a ghost guest came to the door.
The ghost customers who came were actually a family of three I met when I first opened for business.
I couldn't be more excited about their arrival.
They knew that Granny Huang knew that Tofu Ju was undoubtedly a regular customer in the store, and it was likely that I could find out from them useful information about who in the shadows of the shop.
