14 Resignation
When he arrives in London, he takes Amy home home and returns to his home in Kingston-on-Thames with his luggage, only to find that the motorcycle he uses to get around the city is still in the Heathrow car park.

Katie was busy debating at the Palace of Westminster and didn't seem to have time to have lunch with Lin, so Lin took advantage of this little free time to make an appointment with his former and current colleague, Lynn's partner McGonagall in London.
McGonagall doesn't have her own office, and considering that most of the work is done behind closed doors, all the work is done by McGonagall at home, except for a few meetings and inquiries, there are no fixed working hours - although there are a few assistants, but most of the assistants are also working at home as SOHO people.
In the legal industry, unless it is necessary to check information with clients face-to-face or some other sensitive occasions that require special attention, lawyers can work from home. The increasing convenience of online databases and cloud encryption have made working from home more and more common β a trend that has even been around since the late 90s.
So, for McGonagall, despite the fact that she was able to fully settle the mortgage on her house with a seven-figure salary from the law firm every year for the past two years, and at the same time put her income at the top 0.1% of the legal industry's despised chain, she felt differently than other competitors in the same class of income.
After careful consideration, McGonagall decided to resign from Lin Yilong at the end of the year, after attending the law firm's annual meeting and Alex's weddingβalong with her entire team.
The three-month handover period was enough for Macquarie to sort out the work that needed to be handed over.
Although there were some unpleasant moments at the end of the two working together, Lin Yilong was able to integrate into the work in time in the early days of Alan Binghamton, thanks to some tips and guidance from McGonagall. At least, Lin Yilong still has a good impression of McGonagall in his heart.
"It's a shame that you can't continue to work with you. Lin Yilong was invited to McGonagall's home, and the former colleague prepared black tea and shortbread for him.
The two finally handed over the formalities of practice, and McGonagall exchanged the computers, mobile phones, tablets and address books that had been assigned to Lin Yilong, and then signed her name on the resignation letter.
"I want to run my own business, and working from home is a bit of a job, but that's not what I want. McGonagall replied.
"I understand, I think that in the future, it will be like the so-called legal market 'legal Tesco', where clients and lawyers are contacted online or on mobile phones, because of the nature of the job, there is no need to communicate horizontally with other colleagues, even if you don't have your own office. Lin Yilong analyzed very seriously, "Therefore, it is better to work from home like us at the beginning." The door face still needs to be there, but only a front desk and a reception room are needed. β
"I still think that the market for a slightly more traditional law firm is more open. McGonagall retorted, "So, I just didn't agree with other people's business ideas, and I had to resign." β
"I understand. Lin Yilong finished the tea and ate a small piece of cream shortbread, "Although there is only competition among peers, as a former colleague, I still wish you all the best." β
"Before we break up, though, as a former colleague, I have to give you a piece of advice. Seeing that Lin Yilong was about to leave, McGonagall said, "Don't arrange Karen to be my successor, she may be capable enough, but she needs to have three sides to life after all, especially now that she is still pregnant with a child." β
"It's part of her life, isn't it?" asked Lin Yilong.
"So, if she wants to be a partner, it's best to wait until she steps down from the Palace of Westminster. McGonagall said, "It's good for you and for her." β
"I'll let her think about it. Lin Yilong said, "But after all, this is London, the financial capital." If McGonagall were in my place, you wouldn't have any other choice, would you?"
Lin Yilong's words choked the high-level prepared by McGonagall into her throat - calming down, McGonagall rearranged her words and gave Lin Yilong this advice: "Why don't you focus on returning to London." β
"Why?"
"Because the client's valuable business is in London. McGonagall replied, "I'm dealing with very important business for the client, and if our client believes in you so much, they don't even need to pay the client a smile, they just need to get a full contract, and the referral fee alone, not to mention that your current Lynn can afford even four or five Alan Binghamton." Of course, it would be better to stay in London. β
"But that's not a reason for me to focus on London. Lin Yilong said, "I just resigned to South Wales in order to leave London." Although I may spend more absolute days in London than in South Wales, I would never have made my home in London, at least in the years I've been here, I've never felt 'home'. β
"Do this even if you might lose a lot of revenue?"
"McGonagall, you want to give up millions of pounds of net income to run your own firm in order to have your own business, why can't I?"
"I bet you won't pass up any chance to make money. "I'm not from London, I'm here to make a living, but lately I've found that I can't leave the routine I've been getting used to for 20 years, so I'm really planning to live here for a long time." Yilong you ...... It always gives me the feeling of making a big deal and leaving right away β I believe in my own feelings. β
"I see that all Europeans say this about the strange race, as if we East Asians are all such nouveau riche. Lin Yilong was very angry, "When Europeans can give up their good pay to pursue their own lives, why don't they believe that there are really people who settle here because they like life here?"
"The only person I'm referring to is you. McGonagall looked at Lin Yilong's somewhat rude behavior, and became more and more convinced that she really hit Lin Yilong's pain point, "I don't know if you found out Yilong, we were in Alan Binghamton four years ago, and you used this attitude to refuse her investigation." What it was then, what it is still now, has not changed at all. β
"So obvious?" Lin Yilong thought for a moment, then apologized to McGonagall.
"Thank you, McGonagall, for all these years, and I will seriously consider this suggestion. β
The two regrouped their emotions, and the two finally said goodbye calmly, and Lin Yilong, who was a guest, packed up the package with the handover items and left.
After delivering McGonagall's equipment to the security store, it was just seven o'clock in the evening when Katie wasn't working, and Lin Yilong came to her.
"McGonagall is really a very good solicitor. Katie commented when she heard Lin Yilong complain about McGonagall, "I really want to see McGonagall's face when she hears that you yourself are the beneficiary of all the proceeds of her business." β
[PS1] The so-called Tesco legal market refers to the 2011 "Solicitors' Association" (SRA) relaxation of the commercial organization of legal service providers, law firms can IPO, trade licenses, and even choose a listed legal service for direct settlement, as Tesco did - the industry uses the name of this supermarket simply because Tesco is the largest retail business in the UK;
