Chapter 12: Carrying the Corpse
By the time I woke up consciously, it was another night.
The sky was dark, and the house was lit with dim kerosene lamps.
The door was still locked, and the old man surnamed Gu had entered the room at some point, sitting in the shadow of the light, staring at me with his dark eyes with a blank face.
When I opened my eyes, I was facing the sight of the old man surnamed Gu, and my cold gaze shocked me into a cold sweat.
I lowered my eyes as much as I could, and as I sat up from the bed, I found a hair-thin white thread on the bed.
The white thread breaks when it is twisted.
"What is this?" I asked, but didn't look at his ghostly eyes.
"White Topbeard. Inhaling some will protect you from poison or even corpse poison later. He gave the answer, walked to the door and went straight downstairs, still walking sickly.
It turned out that I would inhale red gas and white silk threads before, all arranged by him.
So, what is red gas?
And how did he get into the house?
I sat on the bed until his back disappeared from my sight, and then followed him to the first floor with a kerosene lamp.
The ground on the first floor has been completely paved with wooden boards, and the one that blocks the entrance and exit of the tunnel is slightly different from the surrounding planks, stained with dried blood.
He killed the stonemason.
"Go fill your stomach first, and then go out with me. He spoke as my gaze swept over the dried blood, his tone unemotional.
I nodded silently and turned to head to the kitchen.
By the time I came out of the kitchen, he had opened the door of the shop.
As I walked up to him, he handed me a shovel and a flashlight and led me through the empty town to the mass grave.
On the way, he mentioned that for many people, poverty is worse than death.
There are vacant houses to stay in for free, shops to keep for yourself, and the well-connected villages and towns will soon be lively again.
So, I don't have to worry about the villages and towns being deserted for too long.
I was silent, wondering what he was going to do with me to the mass grave.
The mass graves are cloudy and windy, and there are countless low graves.
Green ghostfire wandered among the graves, and many crows crouched on the graves, silently watching the outsiders who arrived late at night with their red eyes open.
As we stepped into the mass grave, the crows in our path rattled and scattered.
The old man surnamed Gu took me to stop at a new grave and instructed me to dig up a new grave.
The new grave is not grassy, and it stands out in the overgrown area.
I put my flashlight on the ground and moved my hands when I heard a long, hoarse sigh coming from the grave.
I paused in digging the grave, and then continued to dig the grave.
Halfway through my grave digging I was the moonlight peeked through the cracks in the dark sky.
Then I saw that the bulging sack had emerged from the grave, so I threw a shovel and untied the wire that tied the mouth of the sack.
As I untied the wire and opened the bag, a pale woman's face was revealed.
Her eyes were closed, her lips were bloodless, and she wore a noose around her neck.
The bruises on the neck of the hanged person were diagonally upward, and the bruises on her neck were straight backwards, apparently due to someone who forcibly strangled her neck from behind.
"Carry her back to the shop. The old man surnamed Gu came to order again at this time.
As I slashed the sack with my dagger, I noticed that the woman's belly was still slightly bulging.
Killed or killed?
Now that she has been dug up again, this resentment is enough for her to suddenly open her eyes and bite my neck with her teeth on the way to carry her, right?
Although I hesitated, I had no choice in front of the old man's command, so I took the dagger, pulled up the two arms of the female corpse and put them on my back, and suddenly felt cold and cold.
The woman's head rested on my neck, and her long hair hung down my cheeks.
I shuddered and walked back the way I came, but because I was too small, the so-called carrying the female corpse on my back was actually trying to hold her arms tight and let her lower body drag all the way.
Before I could get out of the mass grave, it was as if a cold breath was blowing on my neck.
I kept walking, glancing sideways at the female corpse, she had opened her eyes and fangs were growing at the corners of her mouth.
Her fangs looked unusually sharp.
Her black pupils squeezed the whites of her eyes to the corners of her eyes, and almost the entire socket was jet-black eyes.
I made a sideways movement so that the tip of my nose was pressed against the tip of hers.
I immediately stood on end, stopped my steps, and immediately let go of the female corpse, and turned around to look back while quickly pulling out the dagger, and the old man surnamed Gu was no longer visible.
The disappearance of the old man surnamed Gu made me stunned, and the female corpse had already stood upright from the ground again.
I ran as quickly as I pulled my legs, and the crows in the graveyard scattered without a single quacking.
I looked back from time to time to look at the female corpse as I ran, and although she continued to pestle in place and did not chase after her, she had a large hand of 160 million long knives that allowed me to run to the sun first.
I didn't dare to relax at all, and continued to run wildly.
I was ready to go out of the mass grave, and she jumped up from the spot, and a few of them easily fell in front of me and blocked my way.
I was forced to give up on my flight, stopping, panting, clutching my dagger and waiting.
I tried to stir up anger, but to no avail.
She just stared at me as she stood in my way, as if she was thinking about something.
The situation has progressed to this point, I must not be able to run, I should not be able to fight, seeing her reaction, I can't help but glance at her slightly bulging belly again.
"You will cheat the corpse, is it mainly because you can't bear to let your child die like this?" I tentatively confirmed.
She nodded slightly.
"I can help you!" I hurriedly made a promise to save my life, even though I didn't know how to help her.
She suddenly realized her expression, and at the same time, her belly quickly swelled like a balloon.
When her belly swelled to tear the loose cloth skirt on her body, a ghost fetus dragged a long umbilical cord from between her legs.
As soon as the ghost fetus hit the ground, it let out a shrill laugh that revealed two rows of blood-stained teeth, its black pupils more than doubled, and its eyes stared at me without blinking.
I unconsciously took a half step back, deeply feeling that my previous conversation with the female corpse had probably pushed me into a more dangerous situation.
Perhaps, my words mistakenly inspired the female corpse, who gave birth to a ghost fetus in front of me, in order to let the ghost fetus be reborn through my body.
At this time, I really hoped that the old man surnamed Gu would reappear, but there was still no figure of him around.
Could it be that he was killed by the female corpse long before I killed the female corpse?
Or, did he leave suddenly in a hurry?
My thoughts turned to this point, and the umbilical cord dragged by the ghost fetus suddenly wrapped around my neck, and at the same time, the ghost fetus pounced on me.
In this case, I could only hold the dagger tightly and cut the forced umbilical cord with a knife, and bounced up and slashed at the neck of the ghost fetus.
The female corpse's arm suddenly grew at this time, and instantly strangled my neck.
A strong feeling of suffocation followed, and the ghost fetus had pounced in front of me in the blink of an eye.
