28 The new is better than the old
Amy's love for Lin Yilong made Lin Yilong quickly forget the unhappiness of the whole day.
Lin quickly settled on his single-door house overlooking the entire port of Monaco β a four-storey, eight-suite apartment building with a staircase that had fallen into disrepair, including a classic elevator from the '50s. All these inconveniences did not shake Lin Yilong's determination, and the view provided by this apartment was so good that Lin Yilong could pay more and didn't care.
Obviously, this house needs to be completely reinforced, and the price has been discounted, which is not much different from the one Lin Yilong just tried to return the high-end apartment.
In order to appease Lin Yilong's dissatisfaction, his real estate agent provided a full set of security services for Lin Yilong's new house, and repeatedly assured that the previous apartment would not continue to happen, which calmed Lin Yilong's anger, as for the olive branch handed by the apartment management company, he didn't even have the interest to pay attention, and the phone number of the apartment management company had been directly blacklisted, so the relevant matters were all brought forward by his real estate agent - the apartment had nothing to do with him.
Three days later, in the afternoon, Lin Yilong took Amy on a plane to Venice again, where they had not long left. After a short stop at the train station in Venice, I took a modern night train with a separate shower in a compartment to Paris β just to contrast the old and new trains. In line with Lin Yilong's feelings, in terms of comfort, Amy also prefers modern rail travel to the "golden age".
"After this time, I will no longer pursue retro travel. The pair were on their way back to London on the Eurostar, Amy concluded.
"What about ballet?" Lin Yilong smirked.
"That's modern art that has evolved from ancient times to today!" Amy didn't like Lin Yilong's joke, "Actually, ballet has been constantly adapted and rehearsed for a long time, and even the stage technology and lighting are different. Some of the most popular classics are actually later than some such as jazz and rock. Ballet has never been something retro. β
"I admit so. Lin Yilong replied, "But the public doesn't see it that way, Amy, do you know why I don't like modern music?"
"Why?" Amy was surprised, she did often see Lin Yilong listening to some classical music when he was relaxing, but she never saw him listening to modern music.
"Before answering this question, Amy, do you like hip-hop?" Lin Yilong asked, "It's nothing else, like break dancing or new jazz dancing or something." β
"Of course not!" Amy flatly denied, "not to mention hip-hop, not even some sensationalist modern dance repertoire." β
"I used to play the piano when I was a kid, and you know, from beginner to mastery, I practiced some of the classical musicians' educational repertoire, and when your technique is out of the beginner and beginner level, you're not interested in modern music with relatively simple techniques and difficulty, and I think Amy is just as willing to dislike modern dance. Lin Yilong talked about his opinion, "If you look at music as a business, it sounds good to think of something that is difficult at worst, but the rise of mass media has doomed classical music to be more technical and complex." Compared with the catchy modern genre of music, although the foundation of classical music is a stepping stone for professionals, the cost of entry is too high. The modern music market prefers to do whatever it wants, so classical music and opera, drama and ballet have to be compromised. β
"Every time our theater opens, it's packed. Katie said a little unconvinced, "The technique of classical music is there, and the stage life is always there, unlike some popular singers in the eighties and nineties, who can only find their jobs in the country theater and holiday cruises." β
"But have you ever considered that the music of the classical genre, what has survived in the world, is generally a product that has been verified by the 'music market' I just mentioned. The life cycle is still going on, and most of the other singers, most of them only have one or two songs that can catch up with these people, and that's what the market has tested - and more importantly, the owners of these songs are not necessarily these people, so they are having a bad time. I guess the only people who can continue to mix in this industry are people who are constantly renovating and surprising. β
"So, it's always better to be new than old?" Amy asked.
"Of course. Lin Yilong affirmed in a very confident tone. But before he could suddenly feel as if he had answered incorrectly, Amy's question cleverly concealed her focus - if one always thinks that "the new is better than the old", the same consistent way he maintains in the relationship between men and women is also applicable. Lin Yilong is also likely to like the new and hate the old because "the new is not as good as the old".
"But because people always learn from yesterday or experience, that is, as Heraclitus said, 'one cannot step into the same river twice,' and the Amy of the new day is the new Amy. Lin Yilong hurriedly corrected his mistakes, turned his expression just now into sophistry, and had to add again, "Just like Amy said just now, classical ballet cannot be understood as 'ancient' ballet, but as a ballet of classical genres." β
Amy's expression calmed down at this time - it wasn't the "nonsense" that Lin Yilong had just done, but Sister Yeon and Katie were still by his side, so she didn't have to worry about it for the time being.
"So, when you get back to London, let's move on to a new life and a new challenge. Lin Yilong put his arm around Amy and kissed her hair.
The two of them have been walking on the CΓ΄te d'Azur for the past few days, strolling in the lavender fields near Avignon, occasionally shopping, and making out at night have exhausted their physical strength, just as Amy had closed her eyes all the way from London to Paris on the "Eastern Train", and the two snuggled up to each other in their seats on the return journey from Paris to London, until London St. Pancolas Station, the terminus of the Eurostar.
After wasting 20 minutes at the border check and luggage room, Lin Yilong and Amy finally returned to Amy's apartment on Riverside Street at 4 p.m.
Lunch had just been served on the train, and there was some time before dinner.
Amy covered all the curtains in the apartment and let Lin Yilong sit on the sofa with just enough to see her bedroom door, and performed a catwalk for her.
Amy, who has just become an adult, obviously doesn't know how to match fashion: for example, although light brown and beige are similar, they are unreasonable in the eyes of others; Lin Yilong shook his head at the mixing and matching style of similar styles; Amy tried several different combinations, but Lin Yilong rejected them. In the end, with the help of Lin Yilong, I had to re-wear the mixed up outfit I had bought from the store in Monaco and put on the yellow dress I had worn a few days earlier.
"Although Brother Yilong always says that the new is better than the old, in fact, he may still think that the old is better than the new!" Amy muttered, pouting.
