Chapter Twenty-Nine: A Rainy Night
The air on summer nights is fresh and vibrant. Ed felt quite tired, but he couldn't sleep at all, and after tossing and turning in bed for a long time, he finally got up to find something to eat.
Not wanting to wake up the servant, he lit a candle himself and sneaked into the kitchen. The dark corridor was eerily quiet in the sound of the rain, and Ed looked around, somewhat expecting to see the legendary ghost. But until he found a plate of pumpkin cookies from the kitchen and walked back, he didn't see any white or black shadows.
Almost as soon as he reached the bedroom door, he was met with an unexpected surprise.
The candle was blown out violently, and a pair of strong arms dragged him into the shadows under the curtains, and someone muffled the voice in his ear: "The thief who steals the cookies!"
Ed protected the snack on his plate and tried to swallow the piece in his mouth, "I'm hungry!
A hand reached behind his back and snatched the entire plate.
"It's a bit hard. Naria said disgustedly.
"Next time you can bake it yourself. Ed quickly stole another piece.
Naria shrugged, "I wanted to roast it, but Mrs. Singal insisted that I was a guest and shouldn't do it." ”
Vala treated her a little too politely, and it made her uncomfortable.
"What are you doing here?" Ed was glad that the girl he knew was back, she was so steady that he didn't even dare to approach it.
"Follow Alan. Naria's face sank, "I guessed he'd sneak out in the middle of the night to pound on that door." ”
"The door is still soaked in water, and he can't open it. ”
"I hate him for being like this, making everything mysterious, as if one more person knew that the world would perish. Naria said indignantly, completely oblivious to what Ed said, "I swear, he already knew there was a door there that couldn't be opened, he knew a whole lot of what didn't ...... He just won't tell me anything!"
"Shhhh......h
Naria casually rested the plate on the windowsill and grabbed Ed's arm: "Come on, he went down to the first floor." ”
They fumbled in the darkness, creeping down the stairs, a sight that reminded Ed of the day he first met Is, except that this time he walked behind.
Naria wore a long linen-colored dress, her slender waist looming in the dark. Ed found it difficult to take his eyes off the surroundings, causing him to nearly trip up the stairs several times.
His arm was jerked, and he obediently squatted down the staircase with Naria.
The improvised wooden door that stood between them and the unfinished part of the castle had been opened, and the rain drifted in with the wind. Even if it rains, the starless sky looks brighter than in the castle.
"I said he was there. Naria turned back and whispered in Ed's ear.
"He will find us as soon as we get to the door. Ed tried to ignore the tickling sensation in his ears and the rapidly piling heat, "There's no place to hide. ”
Naria thought for a moment and jerked to her feet again.
"Why are you hiding?" she winked at him, "You're the master of this place, aren't you?"
That being said......
Ed lamented inwardly and was dragged out of his body.
Alan Cavo was not surprised by the presence of the two young men, he had already noticed that Nalya was following him. Ever since Is's departure, Naria has been suspicious of his every move.
He had actually planned to call Naria with him - but that wouldn't be fun.
"Come here. He generously waved his hand back.
The two young men murmured to each other for a while, and then walked over slowly.
"What did you find?" said Naria, crouching down beside him, feigning composure.
"Nothing. "I guess that ghost doesn't like to go out when someone is crouching in his door." ”
"Then why are you here?" asked Naria, annoyed.
"Because my knowledge of magic is rather rudimentary, I have to get help from somebody, and that person doesn't want to be seen by anyone else - by the way, I've already told Mrs. Singer, and she's okay with that. ”
Vala only wants to know the ending, not the process. And the rest of the castle is so frightened by the legendary ghost that no one will show up here in the middle of the night.
Except for Ed Singh.
"Uh......" Ed said hesitantly, "and I should hide?"
"You should get out of the way. Someone replied behind him.
Ed jumped to his feet, narrowly crossing the crouching Nalya and falling into a puddle.
"Where are you from!" he yelled, turning his head.
"Another world?" the man's answer sounded gloomy, his gray-white robe hanging empty on his thin body, and the rain seemed to pass directly through him, like a ghost.
"Alan, you've summoned a ghost?" Ed shrank back, his hair standing on end, and he couldn't help but lean in and touch it.
Naria stood up and slapped him unceremoniously on the back of the head, "Shut up! ”
Ed remembered.
"Half-elf?" he had always wanted to meet the legendary half-elf priest, but--half-elf was like that...... Does it look like a ghost?
He didn't dare ask.
The half-elf floated past him and stopped where Narya had given up.
"I'm glad you didn't call me this time just to see if I'm still alive. His tone was flat, and he didn't hear any joy, "Again, the number of times the ring can be used is limited. ”
Alan looked at him and didn't say anything. The face of the half-elf was still young, but it exuded an aura that could not be concealed more and more, decaying and dying. He gave the teleportation ring to Celebrian after destroying the Ice Dragon's lair three years ago, forcing him to teach him how to draw a teleportation circle and how to contact the Half-Elves as quickly as possible, no matter where they were.
"If I'm looking for you, you'd better show up as soon as possible. He told Keller Brian in the most somber tone. Some of the friends who had adventures together were buried in ancient graves that did not belong to them, never to see the light of day, some faded away in the dark, never looking back, and some disappeared from the world inexplicably, leaving no trace.
All they left was each other. And he wouldn't allow the half-elf to die quietly for his crazy thoughts somewhere he didn't know.
"You want me to open this door?" the half-elf asked.
"If you're sure there's no danger. Alan replied.
"All secrets are dangerous. The half-elf descended a few steps that were not very badly damaged, drew a circle on the surface of the water with the bottom end of his staff, and looked at the ripples that rippled in the darkness, "I don't feel any evil aura. ”
Ed's gaze kept drifting to Celebrien. The half-elf priest has a beauty that transcends gender, but the beauty is too illusory, as if it does not belong to this world. He wondered, was it all the half-elves like this, or was the one in front of him more special?
He watched as the half-elf crouched down and put his hand into the water, the soft light illuminated the small surface of the water, and the rain that fell into the light disappeared without a trace, and the tiny points of light trembled as if they had life, condensed into a smoky bond, and slowly stretched towards the iron gate underwater.
Ed craned his neck and held his breath, staring intently at the marvelous sight. Then she finally couldn't help but tug hard at Naria's hand, making her turn to his face impatiently.
He pointed to his mouth and let out a silent, exclamatory "Wow!".
Naria rolled her eyes and slapped him on the back of the head.
When they looked at the water again, the soft light was gradually tracing a familiar symbol on the iron door.
"The god of water. Ed said in surprise, "Is that a symbol of the god of water?" There are three ripples in the middle of the circle, which people say means water and life, but Ed thinks it is more like three snakes.
"It's not magic, it's magic. The door was sealed by a priest or paladin of the god of water. The half-elf said. He looked up and exchanged a look with Allen.
"Scott?" Alan asked in a low voice.
"He doesn't have that ability. This seal is much older. ”
"Well, actually, there were other symbols on that door. Ed, who had been ignored, couldn't help but interject.
The half-elf finally turned his head to look at him.
"Two mudras. Ed stretched out his hands and gestured, "The white handprint, the big one is smaller than mine, and the small one is very small, like a child's hand." It must have been washed away by the water. ”
"That's Niya...... and Iss. Alan sighed, a look of nostalgia, "They had almost all the secret passages in the castle back then. ”
He noticed Eder's hesitation.
"If you know anything, it's best to say it now. ”
"The last time Ise touched this door, he fainted," Ed thought it wasn't a great secret to tell, but he said it was just a sudden illness. ”
"When?" Alan asked sternly.
"He's here with Naria for the first time...... When we come back together. ”
"I guess it's not you who have the secret?" said Naria, sarcastically. But Iss didn't tell her either, which made her not very happy.
"Do you want to open it?" asked Keller Brian again. The glowing mark on the iron door had begun to fade, "There are no traps on the door, but I can't guarantee that there is no danger in the door. ”
"Turn it on. Alan replied, the long-lost excitement boiling in his blood. He glanced back at his daughter, "I guess you're armed with you?"
"Always with me. Naria said a little smugly, pulling up her skirt and pulling a short sword from her boots.
Ed stared at her dumbfounded. Even if she carried an iron pot with her, it would not surprise him more than carrying a sword with her.
The half-elf jerked his hand out of the water, and it seemed to take a lot of effort on his part, and the ribbon of light attached to the iron door was suddenly tightened, and the mark of the water god brightened up again, and then suddenly disappeared. All the stagnant water rushed into the air with a soft thud of the light, and then spilled into the clearing next to it, making a sound only slightly louder than the continuous rain.
The iron door has been silently opened.
"Wow...... Oh......" Ed really screamed this time.
Eren looked uneasily at the half-elf's back again. He hadn't heard the priest say a single incantation from beginning to end. The power was too great for him to feel a little scary.
But the half-elf just crouched there motionless, until the night breeze mixed with the dimmering rain swept away the dull and corrupt breath of the secret room that had been closed for an unknown amount of time.
"It's time to go in. He stood up, uttered a simple syllable, and let the grief at the top of the cane glow as gently and brightly as the moonlight, and walked down the steps.
"Naria, follow him. Alan commanded, and Ed, who had not received any instructions, stared at him with puppy wet eyes.
“...... You keep up with it, too. Alan said, helplessly watching the young man jump down the steps with a cheer, clutching his cane and walking last.
