Chapter 2 The Girl Who Stole the Footlight
When Xue Kaimo, Li Ju, Ke Tong and Chai Yu were secretly talking in the classroom on the fifth floor of Building One, two girls appeared in the fountain square in front of Building One.
At 8:30 p.m., the sky had completely darkened, and the fountain square was empty, reflecting only the light of incandescent lamps shining through a few windows of Building One. A faint white light hit the floor of the fountain square, also in the shape of a window, and the two girls took refuge in the darkness near the lights and began to remove the footlights around the square.
"I'm a little cold. The shorter girl said to the other girl.
"No, we're going to have to steal them all tonight. The tall girl said in a resolute tone.
"There are too many lights here and we don't have enough bags. Said the short girl.
The tall girl straightened up, shook her arm, which was already a little sore, and raised her head as if she was very unwilling, "Then forget it, let's do it again tomorrow." With that, the tall girl picked up the bag full of light bulbs at her feet, carefully jumped over the bright blocks of light on the ground, and walked in the direction of the girl's dormitory, the short girl following her. Although short girls are empty-handed, it still takes a lot of effort to keep up with tall girls.
Xu Pet's height is not lower than that of any boy in the class, and her strength is surprisingly great, even more than two or three boys, but almost no one knows about the latter point. Wen Li is Xu Pet's roommate (the only roommate, the other two have already moved away), and is almost a shadow of Xu Pet, most of the time, the two of them are like a conjoined baby, and few people see one of them acting alone. "They're two perverts. That's what many people say about them. Xue Kaimo had also heard rumors about Xu Pet and Wen Li, such as that their favorite thing to do was stealing things, and almost everything could arouse their interest, and once they actually stole a pair of boxers from the boys' dormitory and hung them on the glass window of the bedroom door as curtains. They stole a lot of things, but almost no one wanted to mess with these two deviant creatures. Their dormitory was like a small scrapyard, and if there was too much stuff to store, they would throw some of the stolen goods out the window, without taking into account how much trouble had gone to get them together.
In Xu Pet and Wen Li's bedroom, the two of them were liquidating the things they stole today. Xu Pet fiddled with a string of animal bone necklaces on the table while nibbling on a chicken leg that had been stored for three days.
"Do you know whose this is?" Xu Pet raised the necklace and asked Wen Li.
Wen Li was chewing a piece of cement-colored bread, she raised her eyes and looked at Xu Pet's hand, "I don't know." Wen Li said.
"This is what I took from Chang Xiao's corpse after you took the javelin, maybe it's not stealing, but it's exciting enough, you can never imagine how ugly she was when she died. Xu Pet spit out a piece of dead meat in his mouth and said to Wen Li.
"I still don't dare to look at the faces of dead people. Wen Li's voice became a little muffled, as if he was blaming himself for his cowardice.
"But you have to get used to it. Xu Pet said, spitting the chicken bones in his mouth onto the table.
"Then do you think Xue Kaimo did this?" Wen Li asked Xu Pet.
"I don't know, but the javelin we threw away must have been taken by him, and I really don't understand what he was doing in the administration building so late. Xu Pet was tired and lay straight on the bed.
"If you're tired, don't think about it today. Wen Li walked in front of Xu Pet and sat on the edge of the bed quietly looking at the tall and bloated body.
"Come here. Xu Pet threw a stack of old newspapers and a few magazines under the pillow to the ground, kicked open the two oil-stained packages at his feet, and barely made way on the bed.
Wen Li lay down and buried her face deep in Xu Pet's chest, and immediately, the familiar smell filled her increasingly vague consciousness. Xu Pet stretched out his arm and put it on Wen Li's back, but before Wen Li could take off the cumbersome coat, she fell asleep groggily.
