Volume 1 opens 28 Tamil Tigers
On 30 November 1995, at 10 a.m., all seagoing vessels ashore were asked by the Sri Lankan Government to leave the pier and anchor in the distant sea.
The reprinting of the Aristotle was also temporarily halted. All personnel were asked to remain on board and not to leave without permission.
Engineer Lin's body had been sent to the morgue of Colombo National Hospital for temporary storage, and the fisherman, Manager Wu, with the remaining four engineers of the inspection team, arrived on the Aristotle, which felt safer than the buildings on the shore.
Except for the attendant in the wheelhouse, almost everyone stayed in their cabins, did not hang around, and everyone had no idea of going out to play for the time being, what is more precious than life?
Manager Wu has already informed the Taiwan headquarters of what happened in Colombo by satellite phone, and the chairman of the headquarters is also waiting for further details of the situation here.
At noon, the mood in the restaurant was extremely depressed, and everyone was silently dealing with the food on the plate, as a way to alleviate the fear and confusion of the current situation.
has just come out of the shadow of the Wawa incident, but has encountered this even more worrying situation, and no one's heart can be steady.
Every seafarer who goes out and abandons his family and business hopes to use dangerous work at sea to get back an income beyond ordinary people, to make up for his own efforts and bring a better life and happiness to his family. They all know what the danger they face at sea is, they are mentally prepared before they come, no matter what the situation, they can accept it, even if it is the kind of ending of Wawa, in addition to psychological sadness and sympathy, emotional depression and helplessness, they can face it calmly. But none of the sailors were willing to face threats to their lives other than the dangers of the sea, which brought them only the fear of death and the resistance to unknown dangers. For the first time in their lives, many people are so close to death, as if the hand of fate trembles slightly, and it will take away several lives sitting down, what kind of fear is this?
In the distance, the city outside the dock seemed to calm down, and a total of three puffs of smoke rising into the sky gradually disappeared. Ordinary sailors could not see the chaotic city behind the buildings, only Chen Xing could sense that the rescuers there were still busy and busy, and a large number of police and soldiers had set up a cordon throughout the city to check all the passers-by. Hospitals are also overcrowded, and all the medical staff are scrambling in front of the wounded and dead.
Everyone is waiting for a piece of news, waiting for a piece of news that can calm the fear in their hearts, even if it is just an official explanation, which can make the tension cathartic.
At 5 p.m., Luo Jingye contacted the Aristotle, and the fisherman sent a speedboat to pick him up on board. In the living room of the fishing chief, Vasili, Captain Pan, Manager Wu, and the four engineers sat crowded next to the fishing chief, and Luo Jingye finally brought a statement from the Sri Lankan government about the explosion.
At 6 o'clock in the morning today, there were three explosions in Colombo, one for the Central Bank, one for the National Museum, and one for the dock gas station. As of 12 noon, 21 people were killed directly and 55 were indirectly killed, with a total of 76 deaths and more than 1,000 injuries.
At 13 o'clock in the afternoon, Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers anti-government-government-government group issued a statement claiming responsibility for the explosion. The Sri Lankan government immediately issued an announcement that government forces had begun a large-scale military offensive into areas controlled by the Tamil Tigers. At the same time, the Sinhalese of Sri Lanka retaliated against the Tamils in the capital Colombo and caused large-scale riots, and by the time Luo Jingye arrived on the ship, the riots between the two ethnic groups continued in the streets of Colombo, and the number of casualties could not be counted.
Everyone looked at each other when they heard the news, and in the face of the turmoil of a country, no small team or individual seemed so powerless, and the ugly atrocities of human beings were undoubtedly revealed at this moment.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, also known as the Tamil Tigers or LTTE, is an anti-government armed group of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka. "Suicide bombings" are the most common form of violence used by the LTTE.
The establishment of the Tetes in Tamil Eelam was the result of intensifying ethno-tensions in Sri Lanka. Its ethno-contradictions began during the period of British colonial rule. In Sri Lanka, a multi-ethnic country, the Sinhalese Buddhists, who make up about 74 per cent of the population, live mostly in the most populous and economically developed coastal areas of the west and southwest and in the central mountainous areas, where they are politically dominant, and the Tamils, who are Hindu, make up about 18 per cent of the population Concentrated mainly on the Jaffna Peninsula and the eastern seaboard, a significant number of them were workers recruited from southern India by British plantation owners in the mid-19th century, many of whom still have no Sri Lankan nationality and relatively low political and social status. Historically, the two ethnic groups have lived in harmony and jointly resisted foreign aggression. Since the invasion of European colonialists in the early 16th century, and especially during the more than 150 years of British colonial rule before independence in 1948, the British colonialists pursued a divide-and-rule strategy in Sri Lanka, which caused feuds between the two communities.
After Sri Lanka's independence in 1948, the politically disadvantaged Tamils were dissatisfied with the Sinhalese government's policies on language, employment, education, and religion. In the early 70s of the 20th century, the Tamils formally put forward the idea of establishing an independent "Eelam State", and in 1976, 18 Tamil political parties formed the United Liberation Front, demanding autonomy in the eastern and northern areas inhabited by Tamils.
In 1983, the LTTE launched an attack in the north, which killed 13 soldiers and subsequently triggered an anti-Tamil riot in the capital, Colombo, which killed hundreds and fled thousands. Thus began what the LTTE claimed to be the "First Elamic War".
In 1985, the Sri Lankan government began peace talks with the LTTE, but the peace talks quickly failed and the war continued.
Between May and June 1987, Sri Lankan government forces launched an offensive code-named Operation Liberation to reclaim the Jaffna Peninsula under LTTE-controlled control. In July of the same year, the LTTE carried out its first suicide attack. Since then, suicide bombings have become a major weapon of the LTTE in the civil war.
On May 1, 1993, International Labor Day, the then President of Sri Lanka, Ranasingha Remadasa, personally led a procession of the ruling United National Party (REN) from the National Stadium to Golfe Square. No group publicly claimed responsibility for the incident at the time, but it is most likely that the LTTE orchestrated the assassination, a view that the Sri Lankan police maintained. Prior to the incident, the police had received information that the LTTE bombing team had infiltrated Colombo and targeted army headquarters and political dignitaries. Premadasa bore the brunt of the presidency, of course. Moreover, the fact that the killing of Premadasa was a suicide attack cannot but lead to the perception of the LTTE as a suspect. This assassination shocked the world at the time.
A ceasefire was agreed between the two sides in early 1995, but the ceasefire lasted only three months.
...... ...... ......
On the edge of the area occupied by both sides, the fighting never stopped, but it was not expected that the LTTE would be so mad that it would continue to send dead soldiers to the capital, Colombo, and carry out suicide bombings, all at three locations at the same time.
Luo Jingye is really a very dedicated person, and in less than a day, he not only brought the latest developments in Sri Lanka, but also brought everyone the causes and consequences of this bombing incident.
Everyone circulated a detailed description of the Tamil Tigers in Chinese and English printed out by Luo Jingye, and Chen Xing also translated it to Captain Vasily at the same time. Everyone's hearts are heavy, what should we do next? Everyone looked at Manager Wu and the fishing chief. After all, this time Engineer Lin from the headquarters died because of the atrocities of the LTTE, the fish on the ship has not been reloaded, and the inspection of the fishing boat before the overhaul has not been carried out. But Colombo is full of unknown dangers, and no one knows if there will be another suicide bomber.
Manager Wu and the fishing captain looked at the printed materials in their hands, and exchanged glances with each other with annoyance, after all, they were still responsible for the safety of more than 30 lives on board. Manager Wu said to everyone: "You go back to the room to rest first, and I will contact the chairman of the board of directors with the fishing chief, and after the results are obtained, we will inform you of the next work arrangement." Captain Vasily and Captain Pan also reassured the crew, the company will definitely consider everyone's safety, don't worry, we are seeking money, but safety is always the first priority. ”
Leaving the two in the room to contact the headquarters, the others returned to their respective cabins, dinner was postponed until 7 o'clock, no one complained, everyone waited for the company's decision.
At this moment, Colombo, a battered city, weeps alone in the Indian Ocean.
