Chapter 31: Second Break
If something has the potential to go bad, no matter how small the likelihood, it will always happen.
When Harry learned that Dumbledore had left Hogwarts and gone to the Ministry of Magic in London, the panic and despair that seemed to be the end of the world had fallen made him lose his mind and even have the urge to give up on himself.
Just when they needed Dumbledore the most, the latter abruptly left Hogwarts and abandoned them.
No, it shouldn't be an abandonment, as Dumbledore never promised them anything.
But there is no doubt that Dumbledore's sudden departure has made a huge hole in the defense and protection of the Philosopher's Stone, and as the most solid and reliable guardian, Dumbledore's position cannot be replaced by a three-headed dog, even ten times more.
What's more, the three-headed dog is no longer effective, and only a piece of music is needed to put it to sleep.
"Well, it seems that this is the only way to go"
Clapping his hands, Harry smiled, and after making his decision, his heart was much more relaxed. I saw that his face was pale, but his eyes were shining, and he said in a very relaxed tone: "I will sneak out of here tonight and try to get the Philosopher's Stone first." β
It sounded like he was going to ride a broomstick to catch the Golden Snitch, and if it was just that, no one would doubt that he would be able to do it, and would only cheer him on. But the danger of getting the Philosopher's Stone first, not to mention whether Harry could pass through the defenses set up by the professors, and even the danger of Snape, or even the man who still didn't dare to name more than ten years after his defeat, was enough for others to look at him like a madman.
"You're crazy!"
Ron's voice was loud, as if this would suppress the panic in his heart, and he felt weak just thinking about it, it was a joke with his own life.
"You can't do that!" Hermione disagreed, "Didn't you hear what McGonagall and Snape said? You're going to be expelled!"
Harry sneered, and said in a self-deprecating tone, "If he gets the Philosopher's Stone, I'm afraid I won't live to graduate, maybe you can come to my funeral before the end of this summer." β
Unlike everyone else, Harry chose to take a risk, not taking his own life seriously, but rather trying to survive.
If he had been at his uncle's house a year ago, maybe he didn't feel much about death, but now he knows one thing, and that is that when he dies, there is nothing.
Quidditch, Broomsticks, Hogwarts, Magic, and all the friends he had made, he didn't want to lose, and no one who had eaten bread would want to go back for wild vegetable soup.
"I'll go with you. β
Neville broke the silence and stuffed Levif back into the bottle, something he hadn't done since the last time Riff was lost.
"There are other defenses besides the three-headed dog, and I should be able to help you. β
Harry looked at Neville, and it was impossible to say that he was not moved at all. He knew how honest Neville was, never causing trouble, and using violence only for the sake of others and not himself. While everyone else questioned and objected, only Neville silently nodded in agreement, unlike Harry who took the risk to live, he did it for his friends.
β...... Thank you. β
Harry nodded, and he stood up, intending to go back to his bedroom, "I'm going to use my invisibility cloak, and luckily Neville helped me get it back last time." β
Hermione said suddenly, "But can it cover all four of us?"
"Weβthe four of us?"
Ron leaned back on the couch and crossed his legs, rolled his eyes and said, "Oh, don't be stupid, do you think we're going to let Neville and you do it?"
"Of course not!" said Hermione, "how did you think of leaving us alone to find the Philosopher's Stone? I'd better go through my books and maybe find something useful......
"But if we get caught, you two will be expelled. β
"Probably not," said Hermione very firmly, "Flitwick secretly told me that I had scored one hundred and twelve in his class. With such a high score, they were reluctant to drive me away. β
Neville looked at Hermione and asked, "The scores are out?"
"That's not the point, okay?"
"Well, just asking, I hope I passed. β
Harry was happy to have the support of his three friends, but he soon had to face the problem of how the Cloak of Invisibility could cover all four of them.
"It can only be three people at most. β
Harry put down the Cloak of Invisibility, looked at Neville, who was a full circle older than the others, with some headaches, and said helplessly, "Looks like someone needs to stay here." β
Neville scratched his head, feeling very innocent, and it wasn't his pot to look like this.
"Hermione, Neville, and I, the only three of us can go. Harry said his decision, then looked at the unhappy Ron, and said, "Ron, you wait here, if we don't come back tonight, you can go straight to the owl's cupboard and send Hedwig to deliver a message to Dumbledore!"
Ron nodded with some annoyance, he didn't make any noise, after all, Hermione and Neville were both stronger than him, one was brute force and the other was knowledgeable.
"Okay. He said, "You must succeed!"
"Definitely!"
After dinner, Harry nervously avoided others and sat in the common room. Hermione was busy flipping through all her notes, hoping to come across a spell they were going to break later, and Neville held the bottle of Riffou, squinting as if he were taking a nap.
One by one, the students went to bed, and the number of people in the common room gradually decreased.
"Are you ready?"
"Hmm. β
"Let's go, then. β
Harvey covered himself and Hermione and Neville in the Cloak of Invisibility, and he felt in his pocket, where there was a flute that Hagrid had given him for Christmas, and he didn't think he was in the mood to sing to the big dog, and he had Neville's fist as a backup anyway.
Truth be told, Harry had always been thankful to have a friend like Neville.
The benefits of the Cloak of Invisibility have been proven before, and even ghosts can be difficult to spot, especially when deliberately dodging. Avoiding the Peeves who roamed around the castle and thought about the pitfalls, they came out of the four-huddled corridor.
One of the most bad things that had happened was that the door had been opened.
"That's not good news. β
Neville twisted and nearly knocked Hermione out of her cloak, but he quickly apologized.
"We're going to hurry, and hopefully the defenses set up by the other professors will delay a little longer. β
Harry ripped off the Cloak of Invisibility, it was no longer needed. With the creak of the door opening, a low bark rang in their ears, and although the three-headed dog could not see them, its three noses twitched and sniffed wildly towards them.
At the feet of the three-headed dog was a harp, which was supposed to have been left by the thief.
"Apparently as soon as the music stops, it wakes up right away. Harry said, "Well, listen......
He put Hagrid's flute to his lips and blew it. He couldn't blow out of tune, but as soon as he blew the first note, the big dog's eyes began to droop.
Even Harry himself was surprised by this unexpected effect, and when the three-headed dog fell asleep, Harry pointed to the trapdoor and motioned for Neville to open it.
Holding the paws of the three-headed dog to the side, Neville bent down and pulled the tab on the trapdoor, and the door opened suddenly.
"What can you see?" asked Hermione anxiously.
"It's pitch black. Neville replied, pulling his wand from his pocket and whispering the incantation, "Fluorescent flicker!"
[Flash Charm] is one of the few good spells used by Neville, as a glimmer of light bursts out of the darkness, the wand in Neville's hand is like a flashlight, he holds the wand and looks down, his face is a little strange.
"What's wrong?"
"I know what the defenses are set up by Professor Sprout. β
Neville took a breath, trying to keep his peace of mind. He didn't need to flip through the notebook this time, because he remembered the following thing very well.
"You must relax later, don't be nervous, and don't resist. Neville admonished earnestly, "You wait for my news. β
"Wait!" Harry paused and asked, "What's down there?"
"It's the devil's web. β
