831. The modern Zheng family

Zhou Fangyuan is not the only one invited to come today.

In other words, the Li family's invitation to him to the banquet today is actually a signal that the controllers of Nanxian, these consortia, have begun to accept him as an outsider. So it's not just Zhou Fangyuan who came today, but also the younger generation of several other big consortia. For example, the head of Hyundai Group, which is second only to Samsung Group and is well-known in Nanxian and all over the world...... The arrival of the son, Zheng Yixuan.

Hyundai Korea is one of the top 10 conglomerates in South Korea and ranks 36th in the world's top 500. Although everyone's impression of South Korea's Hyundai stays in the car, but in fact, South Korea's Hyundai in addition to Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Construction, Hyundai Heavy Industry, etc., the founder Zheng Zhouyong from 1946 to 1951 has created Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Civil Engineering, Hyundai Construction and other companies, and in the 70s, Hyundai Heavy Industry Company was established, so that Hyundai Group has become a construction, shipbuilding, automobile industry, steel, machinery, trade, transportation, cement production, metallurgy, finance, A comprehensive enterprise group in dozens of industries such as the electronics industry.

Its founder, Zheng Zhouyong, is definitely a legendary-level existence, and it cannot be lower.

In November 1915, Zheng Zhouyong was born into a poor peasant family in Tongchuan County, Gangwonbukuk-do, central Beixian. There are eight siblings in the family, and he is the eldest. When he was 10 years old, his father woke him up at 4 a.m. and took him to work in the fields for 15 miles at night. Working hard day after day, Zheng Zhouyong longs to get out of the countryside, out of the world, and live a good life. At that time, the district mayor's family had a copy of "Dong-A Daily", and Zheng Zhouyong went to the district mayor's house every day to see it, hoping not to be out of touch with society. After that, he wanted more and more to go outside and see the outside world.

Since 1931, Zheng Zhouyong graduated from primary school, he ran away from home 4 times, but every time he went out to look for work, he was brought home by his father, and once in order to save enough travel expenses, he also sold the most valuable thing in the family - two cows, and his father was helpless about it.

In 1935, when Jung Joo-yong ran away from home for the fourth time, he came to work as a coolie at the Incheon wharf, worked as a laborer in Seoul for nearly a year, and finally found a better job in a rice shop and settled down. It was the first turning point in his many runaways, when Zheng Zhouyong was not yet 20 years old. Zheng Zhouyong's hard work in the rice shop won the appreciation of the boss, and he established a good relationship with some customers at that time, which laid the foundation for the future. In 1938, when the opportunity came, the owner of the rice shop became seriously ill, and his only son was idle, so he handed over the rice shop to this penniless wage earner to manage for free. In an instant, he went from being a buddy to a shopkeeper.

He used the money he earned to buy land for his family, and at the age of 22, he was ordered to marry Bian Zhongxi, the daughter of the same village who was "appointed" by his parents. The two went through hardships together, and at one point his wife went to the roadside to sell tofu to support the family.

But not long after, because Fusang launched a war of aggression and wanted to ensure logistics supply, Fusang implemented a grain rationing system for Beixian at that time and ordered all rice stores to close. The rice shop died because of this, and this incident had a huge impact on Zheng Zhouyong and almost broke him. Fortunately, he was not completely discouraged and borrowed money to start a profitable auto repair business, but the factory was destroyed by a fire after five days of opening, as if God was going to test this man's endurance!

But Zheng Zhouyong was not discouraged, because he did not have the time and right, because the whole family of more than 20 people was on his own. Zheng Zhouyong had to borrow money again, and what moved Zheng Zhouyong was that when he borrowed money from old customers, because of his good reputation before, people lent him without saying a word. This lesson made Zheng Zhouyong understand a truth: reputation is everything!

On February 1, 1940, he raised funds to re-establish the "Adao Automobile Repair Factory", which specialized in repairing automobiles, and he also learned the principles of automobiles and the construction of engines. At that time, although the Adao Automobile Repair Factory already had 160 employees, it was not a small enterprise, but Zheng Zhouyong had nothing but kimchi and a bowl of porridge for breakfast every day. Zheng Zhouyong's mother and wife had to cook for the workers every day, and they were so busy that they couldn't even lift their heads, and it was with such hard work and diligence that the factory grew day by day. In 1945, when Fusang was defeated and surrendered, the Mi Army auctioned off real estate, Zheng Zhouyong took the opportunity to buy a confiscated real estate in Seoul with several friends to engage in car repair, and for the first time hung up the "Hyundai Automatic Car Industry Company". At that time, there were many US military vehicles stationed in Nanxian, and Zheng Zhouyong won the trust of customers because of his rich repair experience and good technology, and Zheng Zhouyong's factory developed into a large-scale repair shop with nearly 100 employees in less than a year.

After the war, Nanxian was in ruins, and the shrewd Zheng Zhouyong saw that the profit from auto repair alone was still too small, and construction should be an emerging industry, and the US military had many preferential conditions for the construction industry at that time. On May 25, 1947, the sign "Hyundai Civil Engineering Society" was hung next to the sign of "Hyundai Automobile Industry Co., Ltd." Many friends advised him not to get involved in an unfamiliar industry, Zheng Zhouyong said: "I have done hard work at the dock, and I have more experience than anyone else. Despite the persuasion of friends, he insisted on opening the business. And this day was May 25, 1947, which later became the birthday of the "modern" family.

In the beginning, modern civil engineering was just one of many second-hand contractor builders. With Zheng Zhouyong's efforts, he finally gained a firm foothold in the construction industry. On January 10, 1950, Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Civil Engineering officially merged to form Hyundai Construction Co., Ltd. At that time, the War between the North and South Xian broke out, and Zheng Zhouyong took over a lot of projects for the rice army and made a lot of profits. However, God once again put the setback in front of Zheng Zhouyong. The construction of the Gao Ling Bridge from April 1953 to May 1955 was one of the major difficulties he faced. The Gaoling Bridge project is hosted by the government, because it is in the traffic artery, it is difficult to construct, but the profit is also very considerable, after more than a few twists and turns, Zheng Zhouyong applied for this project, but it is much more difficult to do!

At that time, although the modern construction funds were abundant, but the equipment was extremely backward, at the beginning of the project, it encountered a lot of disasters, Gaoling Bridge is a flash flood prone area, the bridge piers are easy to be washed away by floods, so the cycle begins, a year has passed, 13 bridge piers have not been repaired, but the prices have risen rapidly, and the expenditure of the project has not yet exceeded the budget. Hyundai Construction is facing a serious financial crisis!

But Zheng Zhouyong is a man who abides by his credibility, and he is determined that even if he has no money, he will borrow money to complete the project and pay the wages of the workers!

In desperation, the family sold the house and raised 99.7 million yuan in cash to save Hyundai Construction. Although the project had a deficit of more than 65 million yuan and paid a heavy price, Zheng Zhouyong also gained something that no amount of money could buy -- credibility! For this reason, the Nanxian government spoke highly of this project and played a tremendous role in his undertaking of government projects in the future. From this failure, Zheng Zhouyong knew that it is not enough to rely on diligence and hard work, and that technology is also crucial, and only by updating equipment can we be in an invincible position! After updating equipment and adjusting technology, modern construction soon entered the list of the top six in the construction industry.

Not only that, at the request of President Park Chung-hee, Jung Joo-young undertook the Gyeongbu Expressway project, which was the first expressway in the history of Namxian, and its success or failure was not only a personal issue, but also related to the honor and disgrace of the country. After nearly 2 years of hard work, the highway was finally completed, and Zheng Zhouyong also won a "Copper Tower Industry Medal". Zheng Zhouyong's eyes are also on foreign countries, after all, South Koreans are many and small, which also restricts the pace of enterprise expansion to a certain extent. As a result, Zheng Zhouyong began to base himself in Nanxian and face the world. Although he kept losing money at the beginning, Zheng Zhouyong thought that this was the tuition fee that should be paid, and he could only succeed after failure!

At that time, the evaluation of Zheng Zhouyong by the Nanxian economic circles was: his commercial energy was in the domestic market, and he could not enter the foreign market. However, Zheng Zhou never believed in evil, and in 1976, in the bidding for the international project of the Jubail Industrial Port in Saudi Arabia, he won the bid with a bid price of 931.44 million US dollars, defeating large companies from Western developed countries such as the United States, Britain, Germany, and Japan, and completed the project with high quality and ahead of schedule. Since then, Zheng Zhouyong's modern construction army has been invincible in the Middle East, undertaking almost all large-scale construction projects in the Middle East, and the "modern" cause is in full swing.

But don't forget, Zheng Zhouyong's dream started as an auto repair, so he also has an unusual affection for cars, and although he has spent a lot of effort in the construction industry, he has never forgotten about cars. And the huge profits he made in the construction industry gave him the strength to realize his dream of a car.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to flourish in the construction industry, Jung Joo-yong founded Hyundai Motor in December 1967 in cooperation with the Ford Motor Company on the basis of Hyundai Western, which was established in 1962 as a foundation for trading and manufacturing machinery and auto parts, and officially entered heavy industry. In the early days, the Ford Corte-ira and Granadae models were used as benchmarks, and the model was developed for use in Korea, with mediocre results.

Perhaps the concept of management can not achieve resonance, Zheng Zhouyong in 1967 and Fuso Mitsubishi Group Automobile Division signed a technical cooperation to develop the "pony" car, because Mitsubishi Depot fully supported the transfer of technology, the shape is simple and neat, economical and fuel-efficient pony car, with good performance and practicality, after the market has won high praise at home and abroad, especially the first entry into North America, that is, the full house.

The good momentum of Hyundai Depot's "Pony" car group to North America, the world's largest automobile market, made Zheng Zhouyong realize that "high quality" is the guarantee of invincibility, so he not only invested heavily in the R&D department, but also constantly updated various production equipment with the technical support of Mitsubishi Motors, such as the latest computer-controlled robots, testing instruments in line with British MIRA and Japanese MC standards, so that the products are available in materials, components, All stages of the vehicle are rigorously tested to achieve consistent high quality.

In addition, a 20-kilometer-long circular proving ground will be built at the Ulsan Depot to keep track of the results of the prototype cars under design and the new cars that have just rolled off the assembly line in various road conditions and road surfaces, as a reference for immediate improvement and correction.

This kind of hard work and perseverance was then rewarded, and the new facelifted pony car was launched in 1983 and exported to Canada to rave reviews. Later, the 1.6L "Star" was launched, and the export was also very successful. In the same year, Hyundai Depot established a factory in Canada to produce new cars nearby. In 1985, in response to the demand in North America, the excellent car developed was accepted by consumers in North America as soon as it was launched, and in 1985, with an unprecedented sales volume of 85,000 units, it set a record for the first Canadian imported car that year, and in the same year, it sold 170,000 units in the United States, becoming a dark horse admired and admired in the world car industry.

Isn't it enough to call a legend a child from a poor family who came out of the countryside to take advantage of the situation, rely on his own diligence and hard work, coupled with a serious and responsible attitude, and become a chaebol that is enough to influence a country step by step?

Zheng Yixuan, who represents the Zheng family today, is the eldest son of Zheng Mengjiu, and is currently the vice chairman of Hyundai Motor, the vice chairman of Hyundai Steel, and the chairman of the Nanxian Archery Association. And this Zheng Mengjiu is actually the second generation of Hyundai Group, and he is also the second son of Zheng Zhouyong. Zheng Zhouyong has raised eight sons and one daughter in his life.

The eldest son, Jung Mong-pil, the former president of Incheon Steel, was unfortunately killed in a car accident.

The second son, Zheng Mengjiu, is the chairman of Hyundai-Kia Motors Group, the chairman of Hyundai Motors, and the chairman of Kia Motors, and he is still alive and well. Zheng Yixuan, as the eldest son of Zheng Mengjiu and the grandson of the Zheng family, should be the future candidate of the Zheng family for the third generation if nothing else.

Zheng Menggen, the third son of Zheng Zhouyong, is currently the honorary chairman of Hyundai Department Store Group. The eldest daughter, Zheng Qingji, is a little too low-key, and the outside world doesn't know much information.

The fourth son, Zheng Mengyu, the former chairman of Hyundai Aluminum, committed suicide by poisoning. The fifth son, Zheng Mengxian, former chairman of Hyundai Group and former chairman of Hyundai Asan, committed suicide by jumping off a building.

The sixth son, Jung Mong-joon, is a member of the National Assembly of the New National Party, the largest shareholder of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, and the honorary chairman of the Korean Football Association, and the former chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries, the former vice president of FIFA, the former president of the Korean Football Association, and the chairman of the 2002 World Cup Organizing Committee. The seventh son, Zheng Mengyun, has no prospects, but he has no ambitions, he is currently the chairman of the modern marine fire insurance company, and he has a beautiful life. The eighth son, Zheng Mengyi, the former president of Hyundai Commercial Bank and Gangwon-do Bank, is currently the chairman of Hyundai Corporate Finance, and is also in a position that is neither up nor down, and there is a big gap between him and other brothers.

In the third generation, Zheng Yixuan is relatively promising, and the other brothers and sisters are also good, but they didn't appear today. And with the rise of Zheng Zhouyong, his own brothers and sisters have also developed, and the brothers and sisters have descendants, these people together form the modern Zheng family, affecting the political situation of Nanxian, holding part of the government's power, it is really a terrifying monster.

And it's not just their Zheng family, the Li family, the Gu family, and the Cui family...... These big chaebols behind Nanxian Kingdom have long been big families one after another, these big families hold the power of the country, and those who come here today are basically the same as Zheng Yixuan's three generations, and the second generation is also rare. It's not that Zhou Fangyuan can't afford it, Zhou Fangyuan started from scratch, the pattern is relatively high, speaking of which, it should be the same position as their grandparents. It's just that the older generation is dying of the disease, and they rarely attend the event. The second generation is very busy, and they are all middle-aged, and there is a generation gap with young people, so it is better to let a group of three generations come over, at least everyone is young, and there is no big problem in communication.

In fact, Li Zaiyong, the head of the three generations of the Li family, is also more than ten years older than Zhou Fangyuan, and Zhou Fangyuan stands in this group of three generations, and they all look very young. But there's no way, you can't let the four generations come out, that's really a slap in the face.
