Chapter 290: Merchant Plum Cucumber
In this era, due to the lack of cultural life, in order to enrich the amateur cultural life of workers, many provinces across the country have set up workers' film review groups under the organization of trade unions, also known as mass film critics. Some people express concerns about the moral status of films, and some people take safe political propositions such as patriotism and support for reform and opening up as the yardstick for film evaluation, and different provinces and different film review groups have different tendencies.
Under his leadership, the Xigong Film Critics Group and the East China Normal University Student Film Critics Association joined hands to hold various film lectures and art seminars, attracting a large number of workers' film critics to attend. Zhu Dake is a student at East China Normal University and an off-system editor of the magazine "New Films", so he has become a frequent visitor to the West Palace, and he frequently haunts it.
The Xigong Film Critics Group has a clear position and sharp views, and has a great influence in the magic capital, so much so that every time the magic film is released, it is always the first batch of comments from the Xigong Film Critics Association. As the most watched director in China, after Xu Wangqiu's "A Game of Chess That Hasn't Been Finished" was released, Xigong film critics certainly won't miss it. They watched the film for the first time and organized a discussion about it.
At this discussion, Zhu Dake gave a speech on "Xu Wangqiu's Film and Cultural Colonization".
Zhu Dake lashed out at Xu Wangqiu in his speech, and his criticism of Xu Wangqiu focused on two points. First, he believes that Xu Wangqiu advocates learning from Hollywood, and film is also a model of Hollywood commercial films, which is a kind of cultural colonization. Xu Wangqiu trumpeted learning from Hollywood and was a drummer of Hollywood's cultural colonization. If Xu Wangqiu succeeds, he will bring Chinese cinema into a very dangerous situation and become a cultural colonization of Hollywood.
Secondly, Zhu Dake believes that the pursuit of commerce, in essence, is to cater to taste, and is an outdated aesthetic with sensationalism as the highest goal, putting the audience at the mercy of others, which is a serious dissonance in the process of Chinese cultural change, and a vigorous retreat from the spirit of "May Fourth".
Although the Xigong Film Criticism Group is known as the workers' film review group, it is actually dominated by the cultural elite, and the mainstream of the entire film criticism group is to respect art and devalue business. Zhu Dake's criticism of Xu Wangqiu naturally received a warm response from the film critics at the scene. Very fierce slogans sounded at the scene: "Down with the cultural traitor Xu Wangqiu!", "If Xu Wangqiu does not fall, there will be no hope for Chinese films!"
Xu Chunfa, director of the literary and artistic department of Wen Wei Po, happened to be at the scene, and after listening to Zhu Dake's speech, he decided to organize a discussion about Xu Wangqiu's film. He found Zhu Dake and asked Zhu Dake to compile his views into an article of about 3,000 words.
"Wen Wei Po" is a well-known newspaper, and when he heard that "Wen Wei Po" asked him to write a manuscript, Zhu Dake was overjoyed and immediately agreed. After he returned, he buried himself in his dormitory writing.
At the same time, Xu Wangqiu, who sent away the Dongying delegation, was talking to Xia Meng about the script.
The script of "Heroes from Ancient Times" is more conflicting and more detailed than the version seen at the beginning of this year, and it is completely ready for filming. "Cold" has changed a lot, and there are two particularly big changes, one is to put the time when the hero's parents were killed in 1967, that is, at the time of the June Seven riots, and the other is to change the villain to the real estate developer Li Cucumber.
Putting the time when the hero's parents were killed at the time of the June Seven riots is a wonderful change that will make the whole story more realistic and historical. The cause of the June 7 riots was a labor dispute between the workers and the capitalists, and the workers were so exploited that they rose up to resist. As the situation escalated, the protests turned into bloodshed. And the outbreak of the protagonist later in the story is also caused by various social problems brought about by the economic crisis, which can be seen as a kind of reincarnation.
Xu Wangqiu has an unforgettable hatred for real estate developers, and Li Cucumber is the representative of real estate developers. In Xu Wangqiu's view, people like Li Cucumber are the bloodsuckers of society, and they are tumors adsorbed on the body of society.
However, Xu Wangqiu felt a little incredible, Xia Meng has a relatively gentle personality and is a very kind person, but she didn't expect that she would change the script so drastically when she found someone to change the script, and she would point directly at Li Cucumber.
Xu Wangqiu was very curious about this, and couldn't help but say, "Sister Xia Meng, do you hate Li Cucumber very much, or do you have a grudge against him?"
Xia Meng didn't answer, and asked rhetorically: "Do you know that Six Seven is anti-British and anti-riotous?"
Xu Wangqiu nodded and said, "I know, Mr. Liao and Sister Shi Hui have also been in prison because of this." ”
Xia Meng sighed slightly and said, "Yes, Shi Hui and they have been in prison because of this, and there are many people who have died because of this." But did you know that the plum cucumber was the one who started it? After the end of the anti-British anti-riot, Zuo Pai was dismissed from his work in large numbers, and his life was particularly miserable, but Li Cucumber took advantage of this opportunity to make a lot of money, and exchanged the blood and poverty of countless people for the glory of his Li family. None of the people of the Zuo faction hate him so much that they grit their teeth!"
Xu Wangqiu knew about the June Seven Riots, but he didn't know the whole process, and he didn't expect that there was a matter of plum cucumbers, so he couldn't help asking, "What's going on?"
Xia Meng saw that Xu Wangqiu was interested in this matter, so he talked about it. In 1957, he happened to see in a magazine that "plastic flowers" were very popular in the European and American markets, so he ran the "plastic flowers" industry in addition to producing plastic barrels. Plastic flowers earned him the first pot of gold in the real sense and became a real rich man.
In April 1967, the branch of the Plum Cucumber Artificial Flower Factory in Tai Yau Street, San Po Kong, was issued by the factory with new regulations, which were extremely strict, including that workers who damaged production machinery would not be paid, and that workers would not be allowed to take leave. So, the workers organized themselves to negotiate with the factory. Unexpectedly, instead of changing the regulations, the factory laid off 92 workers, including labor representatives, on April 28 on the grounds of "business contraction" and closed the injection molding machine department of the branch.
The situation began to deteriorate on May 4, when some workers forced their way into the factory to demand negotiations with the management, the union intervened, and workers posted big-character posters outside the factory. The factory called the police, and the police arrived to block the nearby road.
On May 6, about 150 workers rallied outside the factory to protest the dismissal of the workers and demand negotiations with the factory, and at about 4 p.m. the factory was prevented from shipping by the workers present, and the foreman and the protester got into a physical altercation, and the police mobilized the riot squad to take action and arrest 17 workers, injuring several demonstrators and killing one worker in the process. After the incident, the chairman of the leftist Hong Kong Kowloon Rubber and Plastic General Union Feng Jinshui and two representatives went to the Wong Tai Sin Police Station to negotiate and were arrested. A total of 21 workers and trade union members were arrested and charged with unlawful assembly, unlawful assault and intimidation of Kong Biao.
On May 11, the Federation of Trade Unions and trade unions sent staff to San Po Kong Artificial Plastic Flower Factory to pay condolences to the striking workers, who were hoarded in the streets of San Po Kong and had bloody clashes with police officers, and the police sent an anti-riot squad of more than 620 people to shoot with wooden bullets to suppress the situation, and the situation gradually escalated.
On May 16, the Hong Kong Zuo faction established the Hong Kong and Kowloon Compatriots from All Walks of Life to Fight Against the Hong Kong and British Persecution Committee, referred to as the Fighting Committee. Under the slogan of "opposing Britain and resisting violence," the Fighting Committee united with hundreds of pro-communist organizations to demonstrate at the Hong Kong Governor's Mansion with the "Quotations of Taizu" in hand, and posted big-character posters outside the Hong Kong Governor's Mansion.
On the contrary, in the name of restoring the rule of law and order, the British government urgently passed various legislation to suppress it, and the contradictions further intensified. Eventually, as the British government's crackdown escalated and the striking workers were killed, the Zuo faction began to counter violence with violence, engaging in assassinations, bomb planting, and gun battles.
In fact, in the early days of the incident, the citizens of Hong Kong supported the Zuo faction, but with the escalation of the riots, especially the indiscriminate placement of bombs, the whole society was in turmoil, causing the citizens of Hong Kong to side with the British government. This incident caused the Zuo faction to lose the hearts of the people in Xiangjiang, and also made the Xiangjiang society suspicious and even hostile to the mainland.
The June 7 Riots dealt a heavy blow to the economy of Xiangjiang, causing some citizens to sell their property and leave Xiangjiang, resulting in the first wave of immigration in Xiangjiang, and many businessmen left Nanyang. Throughout the riots, Lee Cucumber made waves and bought a large amount of real estate at a low price. After the accumulation of this investment, he became the head of the "Four Heavenly Kings" in the real estate industry of Xiangjiang, and Xiangjiang gradually became Li Jiacheng.
After listening to Xia Meng's narration, Xu Wangqiu suddenly understood why Li Cucumber made waves when the yellow corpse made trouble in later generations. He wants to bring down the economy of Xiangjiang, and then buy the bottom for the third time. Because he understands that the central government will not let Xiangjiang completely rot, and it will definitely be supported later, the Xiangjiang market will pick up again, and the industries he copied will appreciate again, just like the previous two times.
This guy is so bad that he has pus under his feet, and he will not hesitate to push thousands of families into the fire pit for his own selfishness.
Li Cucumber once said that he was just a businessman, and this guy was a real profiteer.
It is hard for Xu Wangqiu to imagine how Fu Qishihui will feel when Li Cucumber turns into a patriotic businessman and becomes a guest of honor at the central government a few years later, I am afraid that it is difficult to describe their inner feelings with the word "cold heart".
Xu Wangqiu suddenly understood that Xia Meng's Jade Bird Company was obviously developing well, and the three movies it shot were very successful, but it was suddenly sold to Jiang Zuyi, which is probably also the reason. They fought with the capitalists for half their lives, and as a result, their most hated enemy turned into patriotic businessmen, what else could they do but retire?
Xu Wangqiu wrote "Cold" originally just to film the story of an injured person who became a madman under the oppression of society, but after hearing Xia Meng's narration, Xu Wangqiu decided to make major adjustments to the script and write many things in the future into the script. Originally, he just wanted to make a fable, and now he plans to make the story a prophecy.
While Xu Wangqiu was busy revising the script of "Cold", Zhu Dake completed the article criticizing Xu Wangqiu and sent it to "Wen Wei Po". After Xu Chunfa got the article, he felt that the title of Zhu Dake's article "Criticism of Xu Wangqiu's Films" was too sharp, so he changed the name to "Four Treatises on Xu Wangqiu's Films". For the sake of prudence, he asked film critic Huang Zhiyuan to write an article in support of Xu Wangqiu "Xu Wangqiu's Movies Belong to the Audience".
On October 15, "Wen Wei Po" officially published Zhu Dake's article "Xu Wangqiu's Four Treatises", and at the same time published Huang Zhiyuan's rebuttal article "Xu Wangqiu's Movies Belong to the Audience". In order not to make the matter so targeted, the editor even violated the logic of arrangement, putting the rebuttal article at the top and Zhu Dake's article at the bottom, in order to achieve a "balanced" effect. "Wen Wei Po" just wanted to provoke thinking, but it did not expect to cause an uproar.
Those critics who have long regarded Xu Wangqiu as a thorn in their side and a thorn in their flesh saw that someone was picking the head, and they also labeled Xu Wangqiu as a cultural colonial, and they couldn't help but feel excited in their hearts, and wrote articles in response, criticizing Xu Wangqiu and Xu Wangqiu's films from all angles.
A major criticism campaign against Xu Wangqiu and the "Hollywood line" was officially launched.
