Chapter 65: The Dignity of the Imperial Family (2)
St. Helen's Convent is located on a hillside in the Helen Mountains on the southeastern outskirts of the Holy City.
The 700-year-old monastery has long been famous in the religious history of the empire, but it may have been protected from the threat of wars because of its mountainous location.
In particular, during the recent turmoil in the Holy City, many churches in the city were burned down, including His Majesty the Pope, which underlined the value of St. Helen's convent.
It hides in the scenic mountains, like a paradise.
But today the tranquility here is shattered. A group of well-dressed nobles of the Holy City arrived, headed by Luke Darnell, the eldest son of the late Duke Darnell.
Since the death of Duke Darnell Sr. and the family's huge losses in the battle with the royal family, Carlos II married his princess to the younger son of Darnell Sr., and granted the title to the younger son on the grounds that Luke Darnell had no heirs.
However, Luke Darnell had the last laugh, and when the Emperor became a prisoner, he became an active intern with the Tulip Parties, even becoming one of the thirty-one members of the Freedom Council, and the lost property was returned to his hands.
He had a similar experience with the Marquis of Jani Walker, who was exiled for "rebellion" and became an ally of the Tulip Party after the outbreak of the Revolution.
Today, Luke Darnell and Jani Walker came to the Convent of St. Gallen with their family members to pray.
Dressed in modest clothes, the ladies prayed under the solemn dome, while Luke Darnell and Jani Walker chatted in the patio.
"Marquis ......"
"No, I'm not a marquis for a long time. "It's a reality, you and I have to admit it." β
"Yes, the Equality Act has been enacted, and from then on we are equal people with the peasants. Darnell said in a mocking tone.
"As far as I know, you also voted yes. Walker pulled out his cigar, thought for a moment, and put it back.
"My marquis, under authority, I can only behave more radically than others. Darnell looked at Walker with strange eyes.
Darnell has been frustrated lately, the Republic has been proclaimed, and he has not been offered a half-official position, but only a consultant in the War Logistics Department.
In other words, he was abandoned. Therefore, because there were no offspring, the perverse Darnell squandered his energies on women, and it is said that his mistress had the size of a company and often held unsheltered assemblies in his mansion.
Compared to him, Jani Walker is a mixed bag, because he is more aggressive, frantically revenge on the former imperial officials of the aristocracy who stepped on him when he was in trouble, and a large fortune passes through his hands into the pockets of many upstarts, which allows him to win the friendship of many.
"I can totally understand that. Walker chuckled knowingly, "What do you think of the fact that they are about to execute the Emperor?" I can't wait to see him hanging under the gallows, and I want to know what an Emperor will see when his and urine are all over the place." β
Before Darnell could reply, he heard the sound of broken bottles in the corridor behind him, and a nun was bending down in panic to collect the fragments, and then hurried away.
"I'm sorry, I'll have to find a place to relax. Darnell left the patio and chased in the direction the nun had left.
St. Helen's Abbey is a large building, built on a hill and expanded repeatedly over the past seven hundred years, thus forming a complex of buildings that crisscross up and down.
Darnell felt that the nun looked like a man he knew, but in his hurry he couldn't find anyone, so he stopped an elderly nun passing by:
"Mama, just now I met a young nun in this corridor, it seems that she is a distant relative I know, where has she gone?"
The elder nun said, "Sir, you may be talking about Lucy, who is a devout and studious nun." β
"How many years has she been here?" asked Darnell.
The older nun looked at him with a wary gaze: "She has lived here since she was a child, almost twenty years. β
"Maybe I mistook someone. Disappointed, Darnell said, "Thank you, Mama, and may the Lord bless you." β
"May the Lord bless you, sir!"
When they returned to the patio, the women's religious activities had ended, and Darnell and Walker escorted their dependents into the carriage.
Watching their carriage leave, Elizabeth, dressed as a nun, burst into tears.
She hated her father, but when she heard the terrible news today, all resentment disappeared without a trace.
She remembered the joys of her childhood, the carefree life in the palace when she was a girl. It would be nice if it didn't grow up.
However, she could never go back, just as she had thought that it had become a luxury to spend the rest of her life in this quiet and secluded monastery.
The terrible news that her father was about to be pushed to the gallows by the executioners made Elizabeth so cold that she accidentally broke the water bottle and was almost recognized by her nominal husband's brother.
Lowering the curtains, Elizabeth turned around and suddenly found a man standing in the room at some point.
The man was unkempt, and there was an ugly and terrible scar under the thick beard on his face. He hides himself under a top hat and cloak, looking very mysterious.
"Who are you?" asked Elizabeth, wiping tears from her eyes as if to hide them.
"Your Royal Highness, Princess......" the visitor began.
"I think you've mistaken someone. I'm Sister Lucy. Elizabeth denied, "This is not the place where a gentleman should be, please leave here." β
"All right, Sister Lucy. "Unfortunately, I thought I could tell you a terrible piece of news in advance out of morality, but depending on the situation, you may already know it." β
"When I voluntarily entered the monastery and devoted myself to serving the merciful Lord. Nothing to do with the mundane things out there has nothing to do with me. Elizabeth said.
"It's not a place to stay for long, after all, many people know you, like Luke Darnell and Jani Walker, who are here today. If you want to get out of here, I can help you. The person who came thought for a moment.
"It's so big, where else can I go? Elizabeth understood that the other party knew who she was.
"You're still young, you shouldn't be spending your best years here. You can go to Genoa, far from the Holy City, and perhaps a true paradise for people like you. You've been there. Someone persuaded him.
"Who the hell are you?" said Elizabeth.
"In front of others, I call myself Antonio Blanche. Actually, I'm from Genoa. The person said.
"You serve the Earl of Rocky Mountain?" asked Elizabeth.
Percy Robinson replied with silence.
Elizabeth stepped forward and grabbed one of Percy's arms: "Mr. Blanche, please tell Sean that I ask him to save my father, mother, and brother." Even if they die, they should die with dignity. β
"Your Highness, you should know that even if Count Connelly descends from the sky, there is nothing he can do, because the noose is already around Ling Zun's neck, and this noose is made by Ling Zun himself. β
Percy coldly pushed Elizabeth's hand away.
"Does Sean think so? You're all executioners. Elizabeth's tone sharpened, and she slumped in her chair and began to weep.
"Recently, there has been a rumor quietly circulating in the Holy City, which is about Sean and the royal family. I need your confirmation. "Posey Road.
"Is this important?" asked Elizabeth, looking up.
"It's important. Percy nodded, "Rumor has it that Sean is your brother's illegitimate son, please don't get me wrong, I'm referring to Crown Prince Jean Solon." β
Elizabeth's mouth opened wide and her face was full of incredulity: "Impossible!"
"Are you sure?" asked Percy.
"In fact, I can't even remember Jean if you don't mention him. Elizabeth said, "For as long as I can remember, I've known that Jean has always been a dispensable person in the palace. It was precisely because of this that neither Philip nor I knew him very well, and he came back to the palace by chance, like a guest, coming and going in a hurry. However, I now know that this was a terrible mistake, and if he had not been sent north, perhaps things would not have been so bad. β
"Is it true that the crown prince fell in love with a dance teacher in the palace when he was younger, named Mary Sewell?" asked Posey with concern.
Although he did not expect the young princess to be able to guide her, because the crown prince was not yet born when she came of age, Posey still did not miss this opportunity.
Whether the rumors are true or not, they will affect Sean's strategic judgment. Really, there are real practices, there are fakes, there are fake actions.
Elizabeth said:
"I happened to hear the old man in the palace mention that when I was a child, I was very naughty and used to play pranks, and once I hid behind the flowers of the people and eavesdropped on their gossip. Indeed, a woman named Marie-Sewell appeared in the palace, and the palace people ridiculed her as a woman who did not know the height of the sky. I think this rumor is too far-fetched. β
"That being said, there are several truths to the rumors. Percy nodded, "Lies are not terrible, what is terrible is that nine points of truth are mixed with one point of falsehood, and such lies are the easiest to believe."
In fact, my concern is not so much about its authenticity, but as if someone is weaving a web against Sean, and the situation in Europa is messed up enough.
You know, foreign enemies are invading our homeland and enslaving our people. The strong enemy is outside, and if we start a civil war again, I am afraid that it will be a catastrophe for Europa. Those conspiracy theorists should be crushed. β
"I hope the rumors are true. Elizabeth said, "The dignity of the royal family needs to be maintained." In any case, Sean is an earl, a vassal of the royal family, and he is obliged to uphold the dignity of the royal family. β
"That being said, but ......" Percy touched the tip of his nose in embarrassment.
"But people are always selfish, aren't they?" Elizabeth looked straight at Percy, "don't make excuses for Sean, I'm not that naΓ―ve little girl anymore, I can understand the word 'politics' at all." β
Percy pulled out a note and placed it in front of Elizabeth: "If you want to go to Genoa, you can find me in this place." β
Percy left the monastery as if fleeing.
