Volume 1 Chapter 27 The Visitor
All the way through the wind and snow, her face was a little red from the cold, and at the moment she was holding her hands and breathing while turning her little head to look around, as if she was full of curiosity about the mysterious underground space at the bottom of the well.
Although wrapped in a thick winter coat, the slender Erin looked only slightly plump.
Glancing at the Narushas dress, which was mainly for body shaping, Thor had to wonder if women were far more determined than men in the cold winter.
"I said I wanted to come and see you, and Shogues sent me over. Erin walked over to Thor as she spoke.
The candlelight in the corner, the half of Thor's face turned around, and the silent atmosphere constituted a picture that made Erin feel quiet and warm inexplicably.
Of course, it would have been better if the expression on the stone-like stinky face of the guy in front of him had been softer.
Look at me?
Thor looked at Erin with some amusement.
After staring at each other for a moment, Erin finally lost the battle, and wrinkled her little nose uncomfortably.
"Well, it was actually Shogues who said he wanted to talk to his sister alone, and then he forcibly sent me over. ”
Talking alone?Saul pursed his lips and expressed deep disdain for Hughes's lame excuses. Obviously, that guy is still running the road to becoming a man, and he is probably about to get lost.
Although she said that she was forcibly sent by Shogues, Erin actually wanted to come and see it in her heart, although she couldn't tell what she wanted to see.
Unlike the blurred vision in the darkness of the night, each other's expressions were clearly visible in the candlelight.
Shrouded in Thor's gaze, Erin felt a little inexplicably shy and expectant, even though the two had only seen each other for a few days.
But she soon discovered that the repulsive indifference in Thor's eyes as deep as night did not seem to have changed in any way because of her presence.
Perhaps he didn't welcome me to disturb his quiet, Erin thought with some gloom.
"Reach out. Saul said.
Erin, who was thinking wildly, subconsciously reached out her hand, and Thor took off his gloves and put them on her hands.
Erin looked down and laughed.
From the eyes of her family of tailors, it was clear that this crudely crappy work was the work of Saul, a haphazard patchwork of scraps of fabric and small pieces of leather, stitched in a haphazard manner.
But, so warm.
She was a little moved, and was about to say thank you, but Thor pulled her and sat on his lap.
Shoved the rod into Erin's hand, Thor began to explain some basic fishing techniques.
This overlapping awkward position stunned Erin, and as she pondered whether it was a question of me holding him or him holding me, Thor patted her on the head and asked her if she remembered.
Erin gripped the top of her head and bared her teeth.
"Hmm...... I'll have to sleep for a while so I can enjoy your softness and scent. Thor arched on his elbows on Erin's lap, quickly finding a comfortable sleeping position.
Looking down at Thor who had been talking to himself and sleeping in the past, Erin raised her small fist above his head as if demonstratively.
This hateful guy took away his first kiss that night, and even though he was a few months younger than himself, he always looked at himself like a child, and arrogantly touched the top of other people's heads.
Turning her head in dismay, Erin saw a book that Saul had put down casually next to her, and she had only read half of it.
It turned out that he was literate.
She grabbed the rod in one hand and flipped it over with the other.
On one page of the book, there is a sketch illustration of an adventurer standing on the top of a hill looking down at the bottom of the mountain, and there is a faint light in the vast darkness below, and I don't know whether it is a distant village or a strange plant in the forest.
Many of the words in the book she knew only a handful of them, and although she longed for what the twisted characters were saying, the heavy chores didn't give her a chance.
Swinging her legs leisurely, Erin enjoyed the atmosphere at this time, quiet and peaceful.
After some time, Thor was suddenly awakened by a violent movement in his arms, and looked up to see Erin dragging the fishing rod with a nervous expression.
Moments later, an unlucky yellowy fish was pulled out of the puddle and into this strange world.
Erin's expression was excited, watching what she did as if she had created some miracle.
Thor stretched.
"Well done! Hungry?"
Erin shook her head, hesitated for a moment, and nodded with a blushing face.
Thor got up to re-erect the still warm fire, and picked up some firewood and carried it to the corner of the exit, where the sound of ping-pong was heard in the darkness a moment later.
"What are you doing?" said Erin, staring at the darkness in confusion.
"I nailed two rows of brackets to the wall of the well so that the next time you climb, it will be safer. Thor clapped his hands back into the candlelight.
Originally, there were only a few pits left in the wall for stepping on, and although it didn't require much climbing skills, at least the limbs needed to have some strength. The girl was certainly not good at it, so he drove some hard firewood into the wall of the well for climbing.
I didn't expect this guy to be quite careful.
"Are you so sure I'm coming?" a playful smile curled into the corners of Erin's mouth.
"Okay, I'll keep it to crawl on my own. Thor shrugged his shoulders uncooperatively, and turned his head to see Erin smiling playfully and briskly, dazzlingly, as if to dispel the cold.
Crackling firewood brings warmth back.
Smoothing the hem of her skirt, Erin sat on the edge of the fire with her legs crossed, silently watching Thor flip the grilled fish.
Staring at the boy in front of her, she suddenly had the illusion of being in a trance.
It was as if he knew both about him and nothing about him.
In Erin's previous understanding, most of the orphans in the convent were full of ice and difficult to approach, but Thor seemed to be a little different from the other orphans.
He does not refuse to communicate with people, but he seems clumsy and hard, and does not know how to restrain his indifference. Sometimes, even if you smile, there always seems to be a certain heaviness in that smile. Sometimes it makes people think that he is ...... It's a bit mysterious and dangerous.
Erin couldn't explain why she had these inexplicable feelings, obviously they had only met each other twice in total.
Just like now, this guy knew that he was looking at him at the moment, but he was indifferent and seemed to be only focused on the matter at hand.
The silence left Erin at a loss, and she wanted to say something but couldn't find a topic.
After crumpling and flattening a small flower on her skirt with her tangled fingers a few times, Erin gently raised her hand to hold Thor's arm, and said in a sincere tone:
"God will never leave us alone. ”
Thor tilted his head in shock, then smiled slightly.
"Well, thank you for this gratuitous comfort. ”
Although he didn't know why Erin suddenly said this, Saul knew that since Sister Precia's death, he had no god in his heart.
If it is really as Irene said, then his future life is estimated to be lonely and dead.
Erin frowned helplessly, she originally wanted to say something casually and then use it to start the topic, but this guy Sol just casually said a perfunctory sentence and returned to his concentration.
After a while, the golden grilled fish begins to give off an enticing aroma.
"Bang. ”
There seemed to be some kind of bedding or something thrown down at the exit.
"Hey, what are you two doing sneaking around behind our backs?"
As soon as he landed, Shugues yelled at the grilled fish in Thor and Erin's hands with wide eyes open and looked like I was going to eat it, but before he could fully express his grief and anger, he was interrupted by a dark shadow overhead.
"Hmm...... What is this?ass? Hell, Covier, you're sitting on my face, can't you be a lady?"
Covill calmly jumped off Shogues's head and looked around the bottom of the well with a curious look on her skirt.
As her gaze swept over the hill of clothes, she narrowed her eyes slightly and turned her head to stare at Shogues with a mocking expression.
"Your dirty laundry is piling up with mushrooms. ”
"Well, don't care about such a small thing....... Hey, watch your feet, don't step on Thor's field, he'll kill me!"
Shogues accepted Covier's contempt with an unchanging face, and then tried to forcibly change the subject with shouting.
The arrival of the two made the bottom of the well suddenly noisy.
That night, the four of them slept together, the sisters in the middle, and Thor and Shogues on either side.
Thor and Shogues were not uncomfortable with this, as this was how the orphans in the convent had survived the winter together.
Strangely enough, the sisters were willing to give up their large spacious house and squeeze into the harsh and dirty environment at the bottom of the well, perhaps because it was easier to feel safe in a secluded place.
Erin subconsciously hugged one of Thor's arms, her brow furrowed, and she slept peacefully.
Looking at the strange combination in front of him, this kind of huddle-like behavior for warmth, Thor didn't have much thought.
Such a scene may not appear again in the future, and I don't know where the four of them will be today, what they are doing, and if there is still next year.
Having spent his twisted childhood in the convent, Thor learned prematurely to distinguish lies, to read words, to see treachery and cruelty behind the eyes that should have been innocent, to smell danger in certain details, and to endure humiliation when necessary, for the sake of some longer-term gain.
No matter what you go through, there will always be traces that will settle down.
Only how to get along with others, Thor has always been not very good at it, and it can even be said that he is very blunt, so he gives everyone around him a cold impression with a straight face all day long.
After all, he has been a man from birth to the present.
There is no warmth in a place like a monastery, and if you want to get along with other orphans, you must be prepared to calculate with each other, and the slightest benefit, or a small advantage that is not worth mentioning in the eyes of adults, will become the reason for the orphans to turn against each other.
If he hadn't met Shogues and the sisters, his life might have been cold forever, Saul thought with some emotion.
