Chapter 1014.Hardships Need Change

Hardships need to be changed Zhang Baotong 2018.10.2

A hard life is sympathetic, but not enviable. The hardships of life are often a manifestation and habit of laziness and comfort, and they do not want to change the status quo through thinking and hard work, but let this difficult situation continue.

Last year, I went back to my hometown in Hunan Province and went to the countryside 40 years ago to meet two of my former friends. One is called Chunsheng and the other is Wencheng. I was only fifteen or sixteen years old when I went to the countryside, and Chunsheng was a year younger than me and graduated from junior high school. Wen Cheng is a year older than me and is a local high school graduate. The three of us are best friends and often chat and tell stories together.

A year later, I left the production team for recruitment. Ten years later, when I visited the team again, Chunsheng and Wencheng were both married and had children. Chunsheng has two sons, while Wencheng has three daughters. Chunsheng's family built a large new house, while Wen Cheng's family lived in the old house they built when they got married. Chunsheng's family used the house near the roadside to open a small agricultural and fodder shop, and the family not only has a color TV and refrigerator, but also a telephone and a motorcycle, and is obviously the first person in the village to get rich.

The house in Wen Cheng's house is old, the furniture is old, not only does it not have a telephone, refrigerator and motorcycle, but it also does not have a black and white TV. And because his wife Hualien is not in good health, in order to see a doctor, she also borrowed a lot of money from others. Wen Cheng's family is not only poor, but Hualien gave birth to three daughters in a row and no sons. Therefore, Wen Cheng just sighed that his life was not good. I asked Wencheng why he didn't go out to work. All those who went out to work built new houses, and they all lived well. But Wen Cheng said that he was not in good health and couldn't get out.

Later, Chunsheng told me that it was not that Wencheng was not in poor health, but that he was afraid that he would leave his wife alone at home. His wife asked to go out to work, but he was afraid that his wife would cuckold him when she went out. Therefore, I always stay by my wife's side. However, the family can raise two pigs a year on those two or three acres of land, and this income is not enough to pay for three children to go to school for a year, so how can they have money to go to the doctor and shop?

Wencheng's wife Hualien is the most beautiful girl in the four villages and eight townships, and she also graduated from high school. When I settled in the village, I always maintained a mutual affection for her, but because I knew that I was an educated youth and would leave here one day, we didn't fall in love. But I want her to live happily ever after. I thought that a beautiful girl like her would marry in the city, but I didn't expect her to marry Wen Cheng. She regretted and grieved this very much. She told me that she wanted Wencheng to go out to work, and he only went out for a month and came back, never again. There was no way, so she went to work in other places by herself, and the leaders of the unit took good care of her and gave her a good salary. However, after only two months of work, he forced her to go home, and said that he was not at ease when she was outside, and he would not let her go out to work again. Therefore, the family was so poor that she couldn't afford to build a house, and she couldn't even afford to see a doctor. As he spoke, he began to cry. I saw that Hualien was pitiful, so I asked Chunsheng to find a way to help Hualien, but Chunsheng shook his head and said, I don't dare to approach her, Wencheng will find me desperately.

After that, I didn't return to the village for twenty or thirty years, and I was afraid to see Hualien's pitiful and sad appearance. It wasn't until I went home for the Chinese New Year last year that I wanted to go back to the village to see what the situation was like in the countryside after 40 years of being away. When I arrived at Chunsheng's house, they were already a big three-story building, and the small shop had become a big one, but now it was run by his son, and there was a high-end car parked in front of the door. I asked him how he had come over the years. He said that he had been the village chief for nearly 20 years, and now that he is no longer the village chief, he helps his son run the shop at home.

I asked Hualien how she was doing, and he told me that Hualien was gone more than 10 years ago. I was taken aback when I heard this, thinking that she was not old yet, how could she have been gone more than ten years ago? Chunsheng told me that Hualien had a poor life and was not in a good mood, so she got tuberculosis, and because her family was so poor that she could not afford to see a doctor, she dragged it out and slowly survived to death. I asked Wen Cheng again about his situation. Chunsheng said that he is now alone, sick, taking Chinese medicine all day long, and his daughters have already married. I asked him if he still wouldn't go out to work. Chunsheng said that he was so old, what kind of work could he go out to work.

I wanted to go to Wen Cheng's house to have a look, but Chunsheng told me not to go, saying that he had a strong self-esteem, and that he should not be embarrassed and uncomfortable. However, Chunsheng took me to see the house where Wen Cheng's family lived. His family still lived in three or four small bungalows, tightly surrounded by a two- or three-story building. I just can't figure it out: Wen Cheng and Hualien are both high school students and smart people in the village, how can they live like this. When I think about this, I feel sad.

After leaving the village, I kept wondering if the tragedy of Wencheng and Hualien was really caused by Hualien's beauty? It's that Wen Cheng doesn't want to go out to work, and he thinks it's hard to work outside, so it's better to live comfortably at home. If you don't want to go out to work, you have to open a shop at home or do your own business like Chunsheng. However, he did not have the funds or the courage. Therefore, this kind of ideology that can neither enjoy nor want to endure hardship can only make him poor and miserable for a lifetime.

No one wants to be hard, no one wants to be poor, so when we are hard and poor, we must make changes, we must change the reality and the environment through hard work, so that life will gradually become easier, happy and beautiful. If you don't even have that motivation, then you're doomed to be poor for the rest of your life. Fear of hardship and willingness to suffer poverty is a kind of psychological inferiority complex and a kind of spiritual self-harm. It is like a damp match that can never light the flame of success. Many people fail not because they can't succeed, but because they don't fight for it.

In our lifetime, it is impossible to get anything without much effort, and we cannot see a rainbow without experiencing wind and rain. Life is like a boat, if you don't advance, you will retreat, and life is like chasing a dream, you can't give up. All the way hard, all the way to the scenery, if you don't want to pursue wealth, then you can only be poor. A soldier who does not want to be a general is not a good soldier, and a person who does not want to fight and take risks cannot live a life of peace and pleasure. We will not appreciate those who are timid and peaceful, we will only envy those who have achieved brilliance. And the kind of concepts and habits that are content with the status quo and do not want to make progress are a kind of sinking and degeneration of life. I won't sympathize with Wencheng, it's just a pity for Hualien, a flower is inserted in cow dung.
