Chapter 35: Types of Jadeite (Part II)

Green jadeite on white background

The white background is characterized by the fact that the bottom is as white as snow, and the green color is very bright on the white background, and the white and green are distinct.

This variety of jadeite is easily recognizable: the green color is patchy on a white background, the transparency is poor, opaque or slightly transparent, and the jade pieces have a fibrous and fine-grained inlay structure, but the fine-grained structure is predominant.

Observed under a microscope (magnified 30~40 times), there are common holes or uneven structures on the surface.

Most of the varieties are mid-grade jadeite, a few green and white, green and bright and good color shape, color and bottom are very coordinated, up to the middle and high-end grades.

Ice glutinous jadeite

Ice glutinous species generally refers to a kind of jade variety with good transparency and good water head that can reach the level of ice species.

Hibiscus species jadeite

Abbreviated as hibiscus species, this variety of jadeite is generally pale green, does not contain yellow tones, and the green is relatively clear and pure, sometimes its base is slightly pink.

Horsetooth jadeite

Although its texture is fine, it is opaque, and the surface shines like porcelain.

Lotus root powder jadeite

Its texture is delicate like lotus root powder, and the color is light pink purple red (light spring color), which is a good raw material for handicrafts.

Tracey species jadeite

This is a kind of jadeite with good texture and color, which is a medium-grade jade in the market.

Golden-filigree jadeite

In the shallow bottom, it contains yellow, orange-yellow jadeite, which is strip-shaped, filamentous and parallel and has obvious directional structure, except that the color is different from that of the Chlorite species, and other characteristics are the same as that of the Cuisi species.

But usually the price of goldenrod jadeite is lower than that of jadeite.

Dried white jadeite

It is a white or light off-white jadeite with a coarse texture and poor transparency. The evaluation of jadeite experts is: coarse, dry, and not moist. This variety is colorless or light in color, and the boundary between the grains can be seen by the naked eye, so the appearance structure is rough, and the use and ornamental value are low, and it is a low-grade jadeite variety.

The ground of jade

Glass floor

Completely transparent with a vitreous luster.

The transparency of jadeite is not the same as that of gemstones.

A good glass floor bracelet looks as transparent as crystal and free of impurities.

Waterland

Transparent as water, glass luster.

Similar to glass floors, there are a small amount of impurities.

Ice

The ice ground is inferior to the glass floor, and the whole thing is as transparent as ice, that is, if there is a layer of mist in the clear, it seems that the water is frozen and stagnant.

Egg green

The texture is like egg green, and the glass is shiny.

Translucent, but relatively pure, without impurities.

Snotty ground

The texture is like a green nose with a vitreous luster.

Translucent, but relatively pure, with a small amount of impurities.

Green Waterland

The texture is transparent, but the blue-green is a greenish aquatic variety, which is inferior to the aquatic variety due to color interference.

Grey Waterland

The texture is translucent, but grayish.

Because of the gray color, the quality is worse than that of the green water.

Purple Water Land

The texture is translucent, but purple-tinged.

Unlike violet, there is an emphasis on transparency, which is actually translucent.

Muddy waters

The texture is translucent, like muddy water.

Poor transparency.

Finely whitely

Translucent, delicate white.

If the luster is good, it is also a good raw material for jade carving.

White sand

Translucent, sandy, white.

Not delicate fine white ground.

Gray sand

Translucent, sandy, gray.

Not delicate gray white sand.

Bean green land

Translucent, bean green ground.

The texture is like tofu dregs.

Purple Flower Field

Translucent, with uneven purple flowers.

for violets of uneven color.

Blue and white ground

Translucent to opaque, with cyan stone flowers.

The texture is uneven, and it is only suitable for jade carving.

White Flower Field

Translucent to opaque, rough and with stone flowers

Porcelain floor

Translucent to opaque, white.

Dry white ground

Opaque, white.

Rough white ground

Opaque, coarse, white.

Rough gray ground

Opaque, rough, gray.

Shit ground

Brown, black-brown.

White cotton

White cotton refers to the translucent, slightly transparent white mineral that has filaments, patches, ripples, and bands inside the jadeite.

The main components of white minerals are nanofeldspar, followed by nepheline, zeolite, etc., and some gas-liquid inclusions.

It is an impurity in the jadeite, which seriously affects the quality and beauty of the jadeite. Its presence will greatly affect the price of jadeite.

There is also white cotton between green and green, and it may also be jadeite itself, which is caused by the uneven distribution of green.

grading

(1) Special grade: bright green (emerald green), apple green, glass ground (translucent, delicate texture), uniform and bright, no impurities, no cracks.

(2) Commercial grade: green, oil green ground, slightly transparent, interspersed with translucent emerald veins and speckled emerald.

(3) Ordinary grade: lotus root flour, bean green, light green, white delicate, slightly transparent. Opaque jadeite is generally only made of jade jewelry.

luster

Jadeite has a vitreous luster, translucent or transparent.

Jadeite comes in a variety of colors due to the different dyeing ions it contains: it is usually white, red, green, and purple. Yellow, powder, etc.

Pure and impurity-free is white, if it contains chromium elements, it shows a soft and gorgeous light green, dark green, named emerald.

This variety is the most precious and is highly cherished and loved by people. If it contains manganese, it will appear light purple and dark purple, and it is often called spring ground or lotus root powder field.

Iron-containing elements are dark red, maroon, and ochre red, and are known as fei.

Containing chromium and copper elements, it is light blue and light cyan, and is called olive water.

In addition to good color, the texture of high-grade jadeite is also extremely important.

Generally, the color is fresh and beautiful, the texture is more transparent, and the glass luster is strong.

Conversely, varieties with a dry texture and poor transparency are secondary.
