Chapter 2: La Traviata
Leaving the study, Philip returned to his room, and he suddenly felt a sense of emptiness.
Because he was deeply favored by his father, he was also helping his father deal with some government affairs, and he also had a comprehensive understanding of the situation at home and abroad, and the actual situation was shocking.
But the ministers still kept a certain imperceptible distance from themselves, and even the most slippery Prime Minister, His Excellency, once said on one occasion that the empire needed a tough heir.
Needless to say, who that person is.
Of course, the prime minister himself denied that he had said such things.
As the second prince who was favored by the emperor, Philip was only the second heir, and his appearance and personality came more from his mother. The lavish mother did not receive much support from the ministers, especially the marshals in the army, who still remembered the former empress.
But the brother is too tough, this point, Philip has to admire, maybe only such a tough person can rule a good country, right?
But the elder brother opposed the 1/20 tax, which made him a little incomprehensible, he simply thought that the rich should bear more responsibilities, and the 1/20 tax should be paid by the royal family.
Was it just to oppose his father? Philip couldn't help but be amused by his own crankiness.
Unable to figure this out, Philip decided to decompress himself, and he changed into civilian clothes and left the palace with the guards.
The Holy City is still thriving, and walking in front of the beautiful shop windows of the streets, you can hardly imagine that the finances of the empire have reached a time when they are untenable.
The people of the upper class were still keen on balls and operas, and there were very few beggars here.
Passing by the neighborhood of Quds University, Philip saw a bookstore crowded with young college students-looking people queuing up to buy books.
I saw a large poster posted on the shop window:
The new hit novel "La Traviata" is ready to buy as soon as possible.
Curious, Philip walked into the bookstore and saw that there were two editions of the novel for sale, most of the college students in line were buying a regular version for five silver coins, which cost a lot of money, and the other hardcover version for seven silver coins because of its elaborate cover and beautiful illustrations.
There were obviously far fewer people buying the hardcover edition, and Philip waited half an hour to successfully buy one.
Walking out of the bookstore with the guards, I saw a newsboy handing out leaflets along the street:
"Good news, good news, the Quds City Theatre has decided to continue the sensational performance of its latest opera, La Traviata, from today until this Saturday, with a nationwide tour by the opera troupe from Poitou, choreographed by the original author of the novel, Viscount Connelly, known as Shaun the Sorcerer, which will definitely feast your ears, and you can get a 10% discount on tickets with this flyer!"
"The quantity is limited, and the expiration date is not waiting!"
Philip took the crudely printed flyer, glanced at it in his pocket, and wondered what the lucky one was up to.
Walking to the next street, which is famous for selling all kinds of luxury goods, there is a group of well-dressed men and women gathered in a small garden on the street, while two patrolmen smoke and gossip on the side, and there is no bad sign.
The group of people were all sitting in front of them, all with their own little tables and cups, and the sun came out, making the spring day a little warm, which made them look like they were on an outing.
A beautiful young woman, in front of the crowd, tended to her cup in public, and beside her lay a small coal stove, on which a kettle was already steaming white.
The woman's posture is very elegant, using special silver tweezers to hold a handful of leaves-like things into a large glass pot, and then brewing with boiling water, calmly.
The leaves in the kettle quickly stretched out and turned into verdant real leaves, which were very beautiful.
The woman got up and gave the soup to each of the guests. With sacred expressions, the guests gently blew hot air.
There was a faint fragrance wafting through the air.
The woman, with a distinctly southern accent, explained that it was a taste of nature.
This is God's gift to us human beings, but unfortunately it has not been discovered. Today, the Gospel from the South Poitu has finally arrived in the Holy City, and it has endless benefits for our bodies. β
"Firstly, it is good for digestion and relieving greasyness, especially for gentlemen who like meat; secondly, it has the effect of refreshing and relieving fatigue, which is needed by those who are toiling in their careers; thirdly, for the elderly, they are more or less at risk of stroke, and long-term drinking of tea has the effect of softening the blood vessels, reducing the oil of the blood vessels and speeding up the blood circulation;
And for us women, this is also a good weight loss effect, don't drink those sugary drinks anymore, in addition to drinking it for a long time, it can also make our women's skin more smooth, has the effect of slowing down aging and beauty. β
The guests present exclaimed, especially the women, whose eyes lit up. Of course, there are still people who don't believe it:
"What credentials do you have, though? β
"Have you heard of Professor Victor Bernal of Quds University......?
Someone replied: "I know, he discovered that humans can transfuse blood with each other, this is an amazing discovery!"
"You're right, he's a big fan of tea like mine, and I can't say it's because he made a great discovery because of this tea drink, but this tea has made him think more quickly and clearly. If you don't believe me, you can take a look at the January issue of the journal of Quds University, which has an article by Professor Bernal, who gives a detailed academic explanation of the efficacy of this drink!"
The woman's explanation was perfect. Just listen to the woman continue:
"Although it is a precious drink, there are also grades, and the best are given priority to members of the royal family, such as His Royal Highness Philip.
The tea leaves in the hands of His Royal Highness are the earliest buds to bloom in spring, and they must be in a misty morning, before the sun comes out, taking advantage of the fog and dew, by our beautiful tea pickers, one by one, and plucked from under the branches of the tea trees, not more than 1 hour to be processed, in order to ensure nutrients. This top-of-the-line product is worth 1,000 gold coins per kilogram and has no price because the production is so limited. β
It occurred to Philip that he really had a jar of such leaves.
Tea Lady?
Sean Connery!
"Of course, it's not for the common people, and you can't buy it for ten times the price. For those that can be sold to the public, we divide them into five grades according to the grade of the tea, ranging from 100 gold louis per kilogram in the first class to 10 gold louis per kilogram in the fifth class. β
"When you taste this year's new tea, enjoy the opera of La Traviata, or read popular novels like La Traviata, and enjoy the edification of art, this is the most popular way of life in high society today. β
"Healthy and artistic!"
Such propaganda was successful and in a novel form.
With the popularity of the La Traviata novels and operas, tea is a new type of beverage that is increasingly sought after by people who donate money to Sean's tea plantation while offering tears to the Lady of the Camellias.
The woman was surrounded by guests and wanted to buy tea. She pointed to a new store behind her, where a waitress in uniform was already waiting at the entrance of the store.
Guests poured into the tea shop and asked the clerk about the price of different grades of tea. Philip was curiously caught in the middle of it, and after a rough calculation, this wave of guests alone took out 500 gold coins, of course, most of them only bought fifth-class tea.
This is just their first time buying and trying it out, and although the publicity is so advanced, they don't dare to go straight to the first class with the first purchase.
It's a real luxury.
Obviously, if the trend of drinking tea can really be formed, there is endless money in it.
His Royal Highness Philip immediately returned to the palace and came to his room.
The tea leaves that Sean gave him were still quietly left in the corner to eat ashes, as if they had been left here for a week, right? Fortunately, it was not thrown away by the servants, otherwise it would have lost 1,000 gold coins, but is it really worth so much?
Philip didn't believe it, and he used a piece of silk cloth to wipe the exterior of the jar with his own hands.
The delicate porcelain jar that is as crystal clear as mutton fat is printed with the word "tea" written in Europa letters, and there is also a large writing similar to the Xia Chinese script, and the origin of this character is explained on the side.
It turned out to be extraordinary.
Philip didn't know if Sean was deliberately far-fetched, as the honorary president of the Royal Society of Science, he had really seen the president of Quds University write a paper specifically for this word.
It's scary to think about it.
According to the attached drinking instructions, Philip made a cup of tea with his own hands, smelling the elegant fragrance, and Philip pondered the sales pitch he had seen Sean.
It's really a ring after a ring, and even his own dignified highness has unknowingly become Sean's promoter.
But is this worth 1,000 gold louis tea too cheap? As for the taste, to be fair, it is not bad.
After thinking about it, Philip ordered his servants to fetch a few delicate small porcelain jars and divided them into several bottles, one of which was given to the emperor by the guards, and he himself took one to his mother.
Empress Royce Sauron, born in 1791 into the illustrious Hermann family, was the youngest daughter of Archduke Hermann, but she was 1 year younger than Crown Prince Jean Solon.
As a matter of courtesy, the crown prince was meeting the Empress when he returned to the White House, but rumors of him causing the emperor's wrath had spread to every corner of the White House earlier.
Regardless of the angle, the queen and the crown prince avoided seeing each other for fear of embarrassment.
When Philip arrived, it seemed to make both men breathe a sigh of relief, and the crown prince took the opportunity to retire.
The queen, who is forty years old this year, still maintains her beauty, and she was famous for her beauty when she was young.
Her preferences, her dress, and even the small ornaments on her body will be emulated by the nobles of high society outside the palace.
The so-called court style is the style used by the queen. It is also indispensable that unscrupulous businessmen go to other provinces and defraud those people from other provinces with shoddy jewelry.
Of course, her act of bathing in milk is not something that ordinary people can emulate.
Married to the emperor for more than 20 years, she has been living in the palace, rarely going out, and is extremely respected by the emperor, of course, the family behind her is also a big help for her.
The queen used a small sandalwood fan to fan exaggeratedly:
"I'm out of breath!"
She was complaining about the state when she met the crown prince, and no one would like the prince's cold expression.
"Mother, I bring you a small gift today. "Philip is very well-behaved.
Biological son, no matter what, the queen likes it in her heart.
"Let me see, what's new? I was just getting people to read a novel, and I was hearing that your brother was coming. The queen beckoned happily, not forgetting to complain.
"What novel? La Traviata?" Philip naturally thought of this.
"That's right! This is a truly excellent novel, compared to which the literati of the Holy City write nothing more than sour and rotten, and fall into clichΓ©s. β
The Queen's praise reminded Philip of the success of Sean's plan to promote tea.
What a genius guy!
