Chapter 52: I Never Work with People

"I never cooperate with anyone when investigating a case. Owen looked at her, his eyes cold as ice.

"Look at you, always doubt everything. M saw through his mind and explained, "The CIA has also intervened in your case, and the organization thinks it is better to be cautious, so they sent me to assist you." ā€

"What about the CIA involvement, I can't handle it?" Owen smiled disdainfully.

"Employers have money, just to make sure it's safe. Lillian explained.

Owen frowned and asked, "I can't figure it out, the 'Constant' project was invested in by them, why did they hire us to steal the data." ā€

"The employer was very uneasy about Ai Bingqing and felt that he had been delaying the research process, so they sent us to monitor him. Lillian said.

"We? I can't think of anything you can do. Owen shrugged his shoulders.

"Hmph, what do you mean by that, looking down on people!" M pouted and rolled his eyes.

Wait, Owen thought about it for a while, but she could let her check Chi Ming's past and present life first.

"I'm just not used to working with people. His tone softened slightly.

"J, don't be so withdrawn. I promise that everything will be under your command, and you can do whatever you tell me to do. I will never take credit from you in the future. Huh?" she gestured weakly.

"From now on, call me Owen so that I don't show my flaws in front of others. What about you, who you are this time?" he said in a commanding tone.

When he said this, did he mean that he accepted me? M showed a happy look and hurriedly replied: "Lillian White, whose Chinese name is Lillian Bai, is your assistant from the United States. ā€

"Lily, Amber?" Owen scoffed.

"Hmm. She nodded proudly, "It's my own name." Before I came to China, I heard a Chinese song called "Lilian", and the lyrics were particularly beautifully written. ā€

As she spoke, she hummed the climax of the song, "There is a beach far away from here, and the lonely man is at sea, holding the sails. If you see him back on the coast, tell him my name, Lillian. ā€

"Okay, okay, stop singing, it's really incomplete. Owen sighed impatiently.

"yes, it's great to be in China!" she raised her arms excitedly, "You know, my grandmother is Chinese, so I like China." J…… Oh wrong. Owen, you were born and raised here, are you more excited than I am to return to your hometown on this mission?"

Owen snorted coldly, "I don't have a hometown, and I have long forgotten the past. For me, a mission is a mission, whether it's on Earth or Mars. ā€

"I'm sorry, did I remind you of a sad past?" she asked softly, her chin shrunch.

Owen raised his head proudly, and the lines of his face became extraordinarily hard. He stared thoughtfully at the ceiling. The milky white wall seems to have become a curtain, and scenes of the unbearable past are projected on it like a movie.

He was an orphan. He didn't know if he had been abandoned by his parents, or if both of them had died.

He lived in an orphanage for as long as he can remember, and when he was a teenager, he couldn't stand the bullying of his peers, ran away from the orphanage, and was forced to join a criminal gang because of his lack of ability to survive.

As the thoughts surged, the muscles in the back reflexively spasmed, the pain of being whipped in my memory. As long as he can't earn enough money from his eldest brother, or tries to escape, what awaits him is a severe beating.

The raindrops of beans hit the window panes unscrupulously, making a crackling sound. A muffled thunderclap came from the distant sky, interrupting his thoughts.

"There's nothing to be sad about. He retracted his thoughts and said with a blank face.

"Okay, let's talk about it. With so many agents in the organization, do you know why I have a crush on you?" Lillian asked thoughtfully.

"I can't answer that question. He mocked mercilessly, "Because, I'm not interested in you at all." ā€

Lilian didn't show any anger at all, and said heartily: "Two years ago, during that operation in Syria, I was almost hit by a rocket, and you saved me. I owe you a great favor. ā€

Did I save her? Owen wasn't impressed. It was commissioned by the International Independent Investigation Commission to gather evidence of the mistreatment of prisoners of war by Syrian rebels. He only vaguely remembered that two of his colleagues in the operation had been blown away alive by rockets in front of his eyes.

"I don't remember. He said lightly.

"It doesn't matter if you don't remember, it's an unforgettable lifesaver for me. Lillian's eyes widened and she recalled, "That day we were disguised as soldiers and were secretly filming videos in their lair. There was a sudden commotion around me, and I looked up, and there were more than a dozen rockets flying towards me like meteors. In just a second, I'm going to be fried into meat sauce. You were eight feet away from me, but you suddenly appeared beside me and held me tightly in your arms. Before I could react, you had already led me out of the camp that had been engulfed in flames. ā€

"You don't have to take it personally. He said.

"I've been paying special attention to you since then. You know? The more you look at it, the more you look like my brother. At the mention of her brother, Lilian's brows tightened together, and her tone was much lower.
