Chapter 53 Xuanwu Project Establishment

In order to cooperate with the positive research and development of the third-generation Zhonghua "Qin", at the request of Magna, China Automotive Research Institute purchased a complete set of new bench durability testing equipment at a high price.

The main equipment can simulate the 24-channel shaft coupled road durability test, simulate the real road conditions indoors, and let the body be tested in various road conditions. In order to test the durability and reliability of the prototype car and the accessories such as air conditioning, audio, interior and exterior decoration on the prototype car, especially the reliability performance of the chassis suspension system has a more intuitive evaluation.

In the past, Zhonghua Group's new cars were directly driven on the road for test drives, but with this system, the test road conditions can be more intuitive and the time can be greatly shortened. In layman's terms, it is through the computer control system that can delete the good road that will not cause problems, and let the vehicle run on the bad road that needs to be used, which greatly reduces the unnecessary workload.

In addition, there are significant cost savings. For example, if you want to change the rear suspension from the torsion beam type to the multi-link type, as long as you only test a single part of the rear suspension on the bench, you don't need to use the whole vehicle to run the test.

Ancillary equipment also includes bench tests of individual components such as doors, seats, trunks, and sunroofs, such as the use of a robotic arm to simulate the continuous opening and closing of doors manually, and the continuous friction of the seat with simulated clothing, so as to test the comfort and durability of the parts.

Of course, this set of test equipment can not replace the outdoor real car test, the two are complementary, and the new vehicle must go through these two procedures.

With the assistance of Magna engineers, Chunghwa Group engineers began to develop a new generation of autonomous chassis on the chassis of the ninth-generation Corolla.

A new chassis needs to involve the recombination of transmission, suspension, steering, braking four major system engineering, to coordinate the engine power, torque and arrangement from scratch, gearbox gear, transmission ratio, suspension system type selection, four-wheel alignment parameters, shock absorber performance requirements, tire hub size and model performance, steering power steering system design and selection type, braking system parameter selection and so on.

These tasks require long-term parameter accumulation, and changes in the parameters of a component often cause a chain reaction, and the workload is really incalculable.

It is precisely because a lot of time is spent on the chassis that the prototype of the C3 stays in the stage of computer digital model construction and is not finalized, and it is constantly modified according to the progress of the chassis.

Since the third-generation Chinese "Qin" could not wait too long, in the end, the chassis still referred to the design layout of the Corolla, and some modifications were made in some parts to make it more in line with China's road conditions.

Positive R&D design was done on the Corolla chassis, but the engineers of the research institute only knew what the effect would be, but they did not understand why this phenomenon occurred.

At the current pace of work, it will take about 6 years to develop a completely new chassis platform that is truly autonomous. This work is not urgently needed but must be done, so another key research project - "Xuanwu" was officially established.

The project team will develop a truly modular platform, striving to achieve powertrain, chassis and technology sharing among the same class models within one platform, and even reduce the size and cost optimization for low-level models, while upgrade the strength and materials of high-end models, and flexibly scale up in size.

In short, it is to use a platform to complete the sharing of A-class and B-class vehicles, and can also flexibly realize the cross-border sharing of cars, SUVs and MPVs.

In this way, the R&D cost will be greatly shared in the future, and the dilemma of having few platforms for Zhonghua Group can be easily solved. The only thing to worry about is whether this kind of supercar platform in the theory of existence can really be realized in reality.

Volkswagen, which has proposed this theory, is already working internally on a modular shared platform, which will be available in the near future.

In the world's automobile companies follow the model of one model and one chassis, the modular all-in-one chassis is indeed a very subversive initiative.

"The Xuanwu project is a catch-up R&D project, and it will take us six years to complete an all-in-one integrated platform, which is a serious challenge for everyone. Unlike foreign auto giants with a century-old heritage, we must learn the skills of overtaking in corners. The modular platform is completely feasible in theory, and I think it can be feasible to start a project. ”

After discussing with the technical experts of the research institute, Han Hao made the "Xuanwu" project officially approved and started the research and development of an all-in-one platform for up to 6 years.

Having said that, the full set of bench durability test equipment purchased for the C3 Zhonghua "Qin" is cheaper for the new generation of large and micro Huaxia Light.

With the theme of "The Great Wall", H3 Huaxia Light is being tested to simulate sand, gravel and muddy road conditions, which are the most common roads in rural China, and will be the main battlefield for H3 in the future.

Thanks to the positive research and development of Zhonghua "Qin", H3 Huaxia Light did not rush to go public, but completed it one by one from sketches, oil sludge, data modeling, prototype products, indoor tests, and outdoor road tests in accordance with the formal process.

Compared with the C3 sedan, the chassis of the H3 belongs to the original of Zhonghua Group, because the large micro surface, which is between the ordinary small micro surface and the light passenger car, is the first time to be proposed in China. The extended wheelbase makes the body larger, the rear suspension with leaf springs has been replaced, the electronic power steering system is used, and the brakes are also used with the front disc and rear drum system, these are all new design changes.

The chassis design principle of H3 is good passability and high carrying capacity, which is convenient for users to carry people and goods on non-paved roads.

Compared with the comfort required by sedans, the H3 is more concerned with practicality, so the standard requirements for chassis design are not high, and this product with new Chinese wine on Suzuki's old chassis showed very good results in the test.

In terms of engine, the 1.2-liter engine will be re-tuned to allow it to burst out more power at low torque, making it easier to climb hills and cross rivers in low gears.

"This is a small car that is truly suitable for China's national conditions, and there is no reference in the world, and it is a tool that we specially tailor for Chinese consumers. ”

Ma Xiaofei is very satisfied with the products he designed, this kind of product developed for the needs of the market, the concept of large micro noodles is specially created for the Chinese market, and it can be expected to become a real national car.

According to the current progress, the new H3 Huaxia Light will be launched on the market in the third quarter, thus replacing the old model that is now mired in plagiarism.

BYD boss Wang Chuanfu is a vigorous doer, since the merger of Qinchuan Automobile Factory, he has focused on cars, after all, the Chinese are already the hegemon in the field of mobile phone batteries.

Now BYD's most important thing is to launch its own models, so he gathered the designers who had designed the Flair car and asked them to design and develop a new generation of cars on their own. Flair's design was too old, and Mr. Wang wanted to see a more fashionable and modern model.

The 316 project named after the date of the day was determined, and Wang Chuanfu also purchased mainstream cars in the Chinese market, including Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Honda and other models for dismantling, and his initial goal was to target the big international joint venture brands.

As for domestic cars like the Zhonghua Group, Wang Chuanfu believes that there is no need to study because there is no value in research.

"Our opponents have never been domestic domestic brands, but these world's top 10 foreign auto giants. In 10 years, BYD will be one of them, and in 15 years, we will become the world's largest car company, with sales exceeding 10 million units!"

Having defeated the powerful countries of Japan and South Korea in the field of batteries, Wang Chuanfu intends to copy this set of tactics in the automotive field, relying on ultra-low cost and electric vehicles to complete the automotive hegemony.

But now, he first has to come up with his pioneering work and invest in the fiercely competitive domestic auto market. The 316 project has high hopes for him, looking forward to being a blockbuster.

The contradiction between Chery Automobile and SAIC has become irreconcilable, and Chery is determined to break away from SAIC and fly solo and become a domestic automobile brand that ventures alone in the rivers and lakes.

In the past, Chery had to be affiliated with SAIC for the sake of the car catalog, but now Chery is full-fledged, and has long been dissatisfied with SAIC Motor's desire to get involved in annexing itself, and the success of Chery Fengyun has given them great confidence and courage.

In the end, with the intervention of the state's high-level officials, Chery and SAIC reached an amicable breakup agreement, and SAIC returned 20% of the equity to Chery intact, and Chery could no longer act in the name of SAIC in the future. Due to the time of SARS, the news of the breakup between the two parties was agreed to be kept secret for the time being, and it will be announced after the market situation improves after a period of time. In addition, Chery still needs a few months to go to the relevant state departments to apply for a new car birth permit, which will take a certain amount of time.

"Finally, there is no hateful mother-in-law, we Chery can do whatever we want according to our own ideas!"

After learning that it had separated from SAIC, Chery's senior management said excitedly.

In 2003, Chery had to respond to the launch of new models by joint venture brands.

In the event that neither Rarity nor Son of the East meets expectations, Chery intends to expand its Fengyun sedan series and launch high-performance sedans with more than 120,000 units.

They relied on Tritec engines imported from Brazil, which were established in Brazil in 1996 by Rover (then owned by BMW) and Chrysler to produce 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter small car engines for their own use. Rover (BMW) is used on the MINI, while Chrysler is used on the PT Edifier sedan.

However, due to the rapid changes in the market, BMW and Chrysler were unable to absorb up to 400,000 small engines, and Tritec engines had to be exported in order to make ends meet. Moreover, Chrysler will be merged into Mercedes-Benz, and BMW will no longer cooperate with each other, and the Tritec engine plant will be dissolved when the contract expires in 2007.

To this end, BMW has signed a new small engine cooperation agreement with PSA Peugeot Citroën Group, and the MINI sedan will no longer be equipped with the Tritec engine after 2007.

Why is Chery able to be involved with Tritec engines?

Because a domestic motorcycle company exported motorcycles to the Brazilian market, the local supplier had difficulties in capital turnover, and proposed to use the Tritec engine in his hand to arrive. I am curious that Rui has engine needs, and its own 1.6L engine comes from Ford's obsolete products, which is a head behind the Tritec engine. After many contacts, Chery expressed its intention to eat this batch of engines from Brazil.

Therefore, a new model that has been upgraded on the basis of Fengyun - Cowin, officially debuted in the domestic market. The Tritec 1.6L powerful engine with a power of up to 85K was the absolute powerhouse in the 1.6L market at that time. The engine power of Zhonghua Pangu 1.8L is only 82K, which shows its strength.

The 5-speed manual transmission is also from Brazil and is manufactured by NVG, a subsidiary of Chrysler Automobile, and is used in the Tritec engine.

As soon as the flag cloud comes out, the wind and clouds are moving!

Chery wants to make a comeback with the Qiyun of the super power system.
