Chapter 9: Two Beasts
The morning sun rises, and the creatures in the woods gradually awaken. The early morning moisture condensed on the leaves of the plant, Duan Mo licked a few mouthfuls of dew, and the cool dew slightly relieved the anxiety in his heart.
It had been a whole night since Zhu Xingxing's disappearance, and Duan Mo really didn't dare to think about what Zhu Xingxing would go through.
Ever since he saw Zhu Xingxing, he tried his best to disguise himself as a cold-blooded and ruthless person, but Zhu Xingxing was completely different from the humans Duan Mo had seen before—she was really a very cute girl.
Duan Mo fled from the tribe, knowing that the humans on this island were more terrifying than wild beasts. When there is no law and morality, the darkness of the human heart and the desire to survive will swallow everything.
"This idiot, don't you know to leave me some clues......" Duan Mo's eyes looked around, observing each plant. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something unusual.
Underneath one of the robes, there appears to be a glove.
Duan Mo was overjoyed, and immediately pounced and picked up the glove.
It hides beneath the wide blades of the robe and is simply impossible to spot without looking closely. The gloves are made from fibers from the stems and leaves of ferns, and at first glance they look like they are made of vermilion stars!
This glove is only half completed, and there are still some residual leaves on it, and the most important thing is that the position of the fingers of the glove clearly points out the direction for Duan Mo.
Duan Mo hugged the glove and kissed it fiercely, then took it into his arms, and immediately followed the clues left by Zhu Xingxing.
"This idiot is smarter than he looks!"
The glove pointed deeper into the dense forest, and after Duan Mo chased for a distance, he found some small branches that had been trampled on the ground.
As the plants grew more and more lush, so did the traces left by the two humans—small trees that had been cut down, branches and leaves that had been severed, and even human droppings!
From these traces, it can be seen that the two kidnappers of Zhu Xingxing did not seem to know about Duan Mo's existence, and they did not seem to be running away, but walked very leisurely.
This is a good thing for Duan Mo, at least it shows that the enemy will not leave any traps, and Duan Mo's chances of rescuing Zhu Xingxing are invisibly much greater.
The forest was getting denser and denser, and the two of them must have had a hard time. Fortunately, after they walked through, they also opened up a path for Duan Mo, which greatly accelerated the speed of Duan Mo's advance. And judging from the felled trees and shrubs, the two men had no sharp weapons—their weapons seemed to be nothing more than stone axes.
Duan Mo's confidence increased greatly, and at the same time, he was secretly afraid.
From dawn to now, Duan Mo actually didn't chase too far away. He was now only about a kilometer from his camp, but the dense woods made the road seem extraordinarily long. This shows that Duan Mo's usual range of activities is very close to these two people, maybe they have passed by each other before?
Thinking like this, Duan Mo had already unconsciously crossed the entire dense forest. He visibly felt that the plants around him were becoming scarce, and his vision was gradually broadening.
Not far in front of him, a small river was flowing slowly.
The river was narrow and shallow, and the water was so clear that it could only reach Duan Mo's knees.
Walking to the river, Duan Mo was a little embarrassed. Common sense suggests that the two men would have set up camp next to the creek – a great place to find it because it provided fresh water and food. But should Duan Mo go upstream, or downstream?
He searched around again, trying to find other clues left by Zhu Xingxing, but he found nothing, there were no gloves or anything like that.
"Could it be...... Am I going in the wrong direction?"
He sighed, it was too difficult to find someone on this vast desert island.
The long trek in the primeval forest was very physically demanding, and Duan Mo sat down by the river and decided to take a few minutes of rest for a while. He took out the slices of meat he was carrying and ate a few bites, then leaned over to the side of the stream and drank a few large mouthfuls of water.
As the sun rose higher and higher, the temperature on the island was also soaring rapidly, and Duan Mo was already sweating unconsciously, and his whole body was terrifyingly hot. Now that he was next to the stream, he simply unloaded his equipment and jumped into the stream to cool himself down - otherwise he would not know how far he would have to go for a while, and he would probably collapse in the forest due to heat stroke.
The water of the stream was cool, which made him feel a lot more comfortable. The song of insects and birds in the distance sounds a little pleasant.
But behind this beautiful natural scene, there is the most dangerous killing machine.
After soaking for a few minutes, Duan Mo didn't dare to delay any longer, so he climbed onto the shore, but at this time, he accidentally saw that in the upper reaches of the stream, there was actually a corpse floating around.
The water in the creek was too shallow, and the corpse was stranded on the river bank, and there were a few river rocks to cover it, so Duan Mo didn't find it at the first time.
The reason why it was concluded that it was a corpse was because...... It doesn't have legs at all.
Duan Mo was startled, quickly grabbed his things, and leaned over.
It was a bit strange to find a human corpse in such a quiet stream—at the same time, Duan Mo began to worry, could this be Zhu Xingxing?
Could it be that I am a step too late after all?
He was both apprehensive and frightened in his heart, and after he had the courage to get closer, Duan Mo just glanced at the corpse and immediately retched.
This corpse can hardly be said to be a "human" anymore.
From the face, it was the body of a woman, but her limbs had been cut off and she was missing. Her body was densely covered with scars, especially her chest and lower body, which had been hollowed out, leaving only two large bloody holes, and her lower body was even more bloody and blurred, as if it had been shattered by an electric drill. In the hot temperatures of the island, her corpse had begun to decompose, emitting a foul smell.
As soon as he thought that he had actually drunk and swam in the lower reaches of the creek just now, Duan Mo's stomach began to churn.
The man had apparently suffered all sorts of inhuman abuse before his death, and the methods of abuse were enough to make people shudder.
The only good news is that this person is not Zhu Xingxing.
Duan Mo was a little frightened, didn't dare to look at this corpse anymore, and left the stream as if he had run away. The body had apparently floated down from upstream, and had been left to dry here because the stream was too shallow. In this way, the person who killed her may be the one who kidnapped Zhu Xingxing!
"A group of brutes ......" Duan Mo didn't know if it was out of anger or fear, and his body was trembling. "I'm going to kill you......"
After taking care of his equipment, Duan Mo began to walk upstream along the stream. At this time, his actions became more cautious - he already knew what kind of person he was facing, and once he made a mistake, the other party would definitely kill Zhu Xingxing without hesitation.
Sure enough, after walking a few hundred meters upstream of the creek, he saw a camp.
The camp was rudimentary, with only a fire and a few sleeping bags, not even the thatched hut before Duan Mo. Not far from the fire, there stood a meat drying rack made of tree branches, and on the meat drying rack, a human leg hung impressively.
This scene was like a punch in Duan Mo's chest—he just then figured out why the female corpse just now had no limbs, and it turned out to be used as food by this group of people.
In an instant, Duan Mo's anger was ignited. On this island, although there are dangers everywhere, food is not very scarce, and it is not to the point of cannibalism. The group was obviously reluctant to go into the jungle in search of food, which led to the act of cannibalism.
Then, Duan Mo found Zhu Xingxing under the meat drying rack. She was lying on the ground with her arms tied with straw rope, not looking very well, but not dead.
But on her face, there was an extremely obvious palm print - it was clear that the beasts were not treating her well.
Behind Zhu Xingxing, two naked men were walking back and forth, as if carrying something. There was a straw rope around their waists, and a stone axe hung from the straw rope, but other than that, Duan Mo didn't see any other weapons.
Duan Mo was worried that he would alarm the other party, so he didn't dare to get too close, and hid behind the stones in the distance and watched quietly. The two men were fat and thin, the fat man looked like he was two hundred pounds, and the thin man was full of muscles and very lean.
They talked and worked at the same time, throwing a lewd look at Zhu Xingxing from time to time, and even deliberately dangling naked in front of Zhu Xingxing. Zhu Xingxing closed his eyes, not wanting to look at these ugly people, but this action attracted a burst of punches and kicks.
Duan Mo was furious, and he couldn't wait to rush out to fight with them immediately, but after thinking about it carefully, although the opponent's weapons were not sophisticated, they had an advantage in terms of numbers and physique, and if they fought hard, they couldn't take any advantage, not to mention that if the other party's dog jumped over the wall in a hurry and hurt Zhu Xingxing, it would be worth the loss.
"Calm down...... Calm down......" Duan Mo said in a low voice.
Although the other party was humiliating Zhu Xingxing, he didn't seem to have the idea of killing her—at least not yet. In this case, Duan Mo could have waited until the two men left the camp or slept at night to rescue Zhu Xingxing. Once Zhu Xingxing is safe, Duan Mo will be able to let go of his hands and feet and clean up the two beasts well.
It's just that...... Duan Mo looked up at the sky, the sun was high now, and there were at least four or five hours before it got dark.
He sighed, and could only continue to suppress his anger, waiting for an opportunity.
In the more than half a month he had lived on the island, Duan Mo had looked forward to the coming of the night for the first time.
