Chapter 44: Basrisk

Basilisk, is its name.

It was almost a thousand years ago that the owner who created it: Salazar Slytherin, gave it its name.

"Basilisk", "Serpent King" or "Python", as wizards call it, and Basriskk knew that wizards were afraid of him, fearful of him, but he didn't care about it, because it had a mission.

Salazar Slytherin left behind a secret room before leaving Hogwarts Castle...... One of its duties is to keep its secrets until the return of the Slytherin heirs.

For a thousand years, Basriskk roamed the castle and lived by hunting rats, bats and a few birds...... There is very little food, it often starves, and sometimes when it is too hungry, it will fall into hibernation on its own.

It was never intended to appear inside the castle, as it was well aware that the castle would not welcome itself...... will only panic because of his appearance.

Also, Salazar Slytherin once instilled a mission in it.

It has been said that Salazar Slytherin wanted to expel all young wizards who were Muggle-born or did not have sufficient magical abilities from the school...... Basriskk understands that this is not the case.

No one loved the castle or the school more than Salazar, not even his three former best friends...... Even if he dies across the ocean, Basriskk can still feel the master's undying longing for Hogwarts.

Salazar Slytherin objected to Hogwarts accepting Muggle-born wizards for the simple reason that he felt they could not be trusted.

In those days when witch hunts were rampant, when Muggles were completely hostile to wizards, when any wizard could be reported at any time and burned at the stake...... Even a good duelist like Godric Gryffindor has been seriously wounded in a battle with a Muggle.

So, Slytherin felt that taking on a young Muggle-born wizard was a very risky thing to do. Because there's no way for sure if they'll leak Hogwarts' existence to the Muggles, and once Hogwarts' secrecy is broken, a new war between wizards and Muggles is on the horizon!

There is no doubt that Slytherin's views were not shared. In the eyes of his three friends, Muggle-born wizards were a symbol of exceptional talent, and if they did not absorb more new blood, wizards would simply perish themselves...... They had a heated quarrel.

Eventually, Slytherin failed, and he eventually left Hogwarts Castle and the school.

But even after leaving school, Salazar Slytherin never wanted to hurt the young Muggle-born wizards...... Because he always thought that he was still the headmaster of Hogwarts, even the young Muggle-born wizards were still his students.

A principal would never hurt his students, even the ones he hated!

This is also the mission that Basrix was indoctrinated in.

It has been hidden beneath Hogwarts for thousands of years, protecting not only the Slytherin vaults, but also the people who guard the castle and the people in it.

......

But fifty years ago, the Chamber of Secrets was opened.

Basrix rejoiced because he felt that his mission was soon to be accomplished.

But to its surprise, the new owner was completely different from the old Slytherin, the "Slytherin heir" named Tom Riddle, who was much more radical and cruel than Salazar Slytherin......

He thinks that all the "Mudbloods" and "Squibs" at Hogwarts should be killed!

Basrix tried to communicate with the new owner, hoping to convince him...... But it failed!

Tom Riddle didn't bother with it...... In his opinion, Basrix is just a beast that has always been rude.

What's worse is that Tom Riddle is a parseltongue...... For a giant serpent, Parseltongue is its nemesis, and no snake can refuse Parseltongue's commands, not even the King of Serpents.

Basrix was forced to take orders from his new master, leaving the Chamber of Secrets and roaming the castle, attacking the lonely, Muggle-born wizards.

But Basrix kept trying, knowing full well that the direct contact of his gaze and the venom in his fangs were deadly to wizards...... So it has been making small changes on the orders of the new owner.

During the attack, it avoided its gaze on the poor students, and it always tried to reappear in front of them when it was unable to make direct contact with them (indirect eye contact), which would still hurt them a lot, but at least save their lives.

Nearly a dozen students were attacked, and Basrix managed to keep them alive as much as he could...... Until there was an accident......

Tom Riddle had it attack a girl with highly myopic glasses...... Basrix knew very well that with glasses as a block, his gaze was not fatal. But when the attack came, the girl was crying and crying, and she took off her glasses......

She's dead......

Basrix fell into deep self-reproach, and he began to rebel against the orders of his new master.

However, the Parseltongue is too lethal for snakes, and its resistance is almost futile.

Fortunately, since the girl died, Tom Riddle has never opened the Chamber of Secrets...... Basrix thought he was free.

It wasn't until half a year ago that the Chamber of Secrets was opened again, by the same people.

......

Basrix huddled in a small lair in the Chamber of Secrets, licking his wounds.

For half a year, as it had been fifty years ago, it had been forced to attack the students of Hogwarts on the orders of the Parseltongue.

But in an attack three days ago, it was wounded.

A hunky wizard wounded it with a strange wand...... There seems to be something left in the wound, and even with the strong recovery power of the basilisk, it has been difficult to heal.

Basrix felt a lot weaker.

Above the chamber, there were several noises.

Could it be that Tom Riddle is here again...... With his own injuries, he wants to cause a new attack at Hogwarts?

Basrix slowly crawled out of the lair.

But it wasn't Tom Riddle's cold-hearted voice, it was a young boy's voice that opened the chamber this time, and it was much gentler.

In addition to the boy's voice, there were many footsteps.

The footsteps of several adult wizards.
