Chapter 1205: Breaking a Mystery
McKe led Peter, Tan Guo and a few others around the cave.
They counted all the caves that marked what was inside, and it was the same as the list was written.
However, in the end, it was found that there were two holes without any signs.
Nor is it among the caves originally on the list.
What's inside these two caves?
Could there be a more exotic treasure?
This was Guan Cai's first thought.
Maybe there's a bigger secret?
Tan Guo's first guess was this.
There can't be a bigger conspiracy to hide!
Tan Shilong was ready to continue to infiltrate.
What can be strange, it's just a tattered old fortune!
Peter had always scoffed at these Dutchmen.
Could it be that in addition to accumulating treasures, they also have a little appreciation for beautiful things, such as famous flowers and plants, or rare animals?
This is Tan Fengwu's little sister's naïve idea.
Whatever it is, open it up and see!
That's what McKee had in mind.
His thoughts immediately turned into action.
With his No. 1 curiosity baby here, any secrets will be turned out!
The matter of opening the door was handed over to Guan Cai.
Probably because of the heavy mechanisms outside, the defense is tight, this door into the hole, there is no mystery, Guan only tinkered a few times, and the hole opened violently.
Everyone naturally looked inside, but before they could see clearly, a strong smell came to their nostrils!
Guan Cai, Mai Ke and the others immediately recognized that this was the smell of rotting corpses!
Tan Fengwu hurriedly turned his back, and it smelled bad.
McCor already knew that there would be dead people in the cave. And definitely no less, otherwise it would be difficult to emit such a strong smell.
In order to eliminate these smells, McKe had planned to blow a gust of wind and get a handful of aerogens in to solve the problem.
He immediately realized that this way, there would be no corpse stench in this cave. But they run outside, the air is everywhere, they will spread everywhere!
If you go to those places where famous paintings and ancient books are collected, and you dye them all, it will be a big trouble!
No one likes famous paintings that smell of corpses, right?
There's no bookish smell in the book, that's it!
While reading, the smell of corpses emanates from it, what kind of body it has become.
McCor thought about it. Immediately threw out a handful of gas elements, wrapped the smell from the hole tightly!
Then, using the compression function of the aerogen, all the air encapsulated in it is compressed into a solid state.
It became a brick-sized block.
Not only is all the smell of corpses enclosed inside, but it is also unusually strong!
Mai Ke copied it in his hand and added some scented earth elements into it. Then I'll take turns to see it.
Everyone saw with their own eyes the smell of corpses in a room. It became a fragrant brick, and I was amazed!
In the end, when it came to Tan Xiaomei's hands, she thought of the original disgusting smell, so she was not confused by the fragrance on the surface of this brick, and raised her hand and threw it away!
But. As soon as Mai Ke beckoned, he accepted it and put it in his backpack casually.
This is a good thing, and when you fight in the future, you will knock people on the bricks. Let him be unconscious for a long time, and then get some corpse stench for him, and scare him to death!
Even if the person concerned is not scared to death, his comrades will be scared away!
Although there was no stench in the cave, everyone still did not dare to face the entrance of the cave, and waited until McKe strode in, and then followed the fish.
When I entered the door, I saw a large stone monument blocking the way.
There is an inscription on it, just a line of large characters.
It's still Old Dutch, and no one can read it except Maiko.
McKee looked at it, and it read: The Twelve Governors live in the grave of death.
The mound character was also a rare character in Old Polish, so it took Mai Ke about ten minutes to make out it.
McKe told everyone about the content of the inscription, and everyone was dewed on their heads.
What are the Twelve Governors? Aren't the Dutch here for decades? Do they change horses after a year or two?
What McKee knew was that these Dutchmen had only been fighting Formosa for thirty-eight years, that is to say, they would change one after almost three years.
How many governors there are in fact, McKe is also unclear, and if you look inside, you may have the answer.
So, everyone turned the stone tablet together and came to the back.
When we got to the back, we were amazed by what we saw!
There's a line of people sitting there!
All of them are neatly dressed, sitting upright, looking ahead!
If you look closely, they are all dressed in military uniforms, with swords hanging from their waists!
Guan Cai observed things carefully and immediately counted the number of people.
"Twelve!" Guan shouted after counting.
What twelve?
McCor reacted immediately.
These twelve people are the same as the number of twelve governors mentioned in the previous inscription!
Could this be the fourteen governors?
McCor's association was quickly confirmed.
It turned out that there was a small stone tablet in front of the twelve men, on which there were only two lines of words, one for the first governors, and the other for the names of the governors.
Mai Ke and the others entered from the left side of the stone tablet, and saw that the first of the twelve people on the right hand was the twelfth governor!
Guan Cai quickly ran to the other end, where the first one also happened to be the first governor!
Everyone else seems to have died, except for the last one, who seems to have died unnaturally.
Because he has a black hole in his forehead!
Sure enough, after a little searching, Guan found a short gun, and it seems that the governor used it to kill himself.
There really are twelve governors!
At least the name is there!
Then everyone watched them one by one, from the twelfth all the way up to the first.
The most striking thing is that these people are all red-haired!
No wonder the locals call them red-haired devils!
At least judging by the hair of these people, the name has a reason.
As for the devils, it is probably out of emotional outburst and extreme disgust with them that they are called so.
It depends on whether they are friendly or hostile to the local population.
Head full of red hair. It shows that when they died, they were still in the prime of life, so how did they become a member of this place?
Isn't this a "grave of life and death"? Could it be that the inscription on that stone tablet is nonsense?
Because of their age, I can't see their pre-mortem state, just look at their faces, some of them are pale. Some are black and purple, some are dark, and some are gray and blue, which is not normal.
Maybe it's all unnatural deaths?
A thought popped out of McKe's head!
Mai Ke is vaguely aware that the historical truth that is different from the public historical knowledge may be in this cave!
Knowing that this was only a small part of the cave, they decided to go deeper.
Under the leadership of McKee, everyone walked around the back of the twelve people.
The first thing I saw was a row of stone monuments!
There are twelve whole pieces, and there is not a single piece. No more, no less.
Mai Ke looked at these inscriptions one by one, because no one else understood, so he had to rely on him to read them and then explain them to them.
The first inscription was relatively long, and Mai Ke remembered what this man's name was, Governor Wei Malang.
The inscription praises him for his far-sightedness and eloquence, first eyeing Formosa and then recruiting troops. Prepare the guns of the ship and go on a long journey. Come to this treasure island.
The inscription praised him for his correct analysis and understanding of the Ming Dynasty, a great country at that time, and believed that they were not to be feared, and that the local residents were poor and backward, and they would definitely be welcomed, such as the hope of the great drought.
So they made Formosa an ideal target for their expansion.
So, in 1600, they occupied the Penghu Islands.
Take this as a sign. The growing Netherlands broke free from Spanish control and began to expand outward on a larger scale.
In order to carry out the expansion plan to the East, under the planning of Wei Marang, the "East India Company" was established in 1602.
The East India Company was authorized by Congress to sign, garrison, fortify, mint coins, and appoint magistrates and judges directly to the sovereigns of the commercial districts. In fact, it became a political base camp with various powers.
The East India Company has a Far East branch in Batavia, on the Indonesian island of Java.
Ostensibly, the Batavia branch was responsible for the overall command of the war against Formosa.
In fact, all the specific affairs were planned and executed by Wei Malang.
He used such means as illegal trade, forced selling, forced buying, robbery and plunder, armed aggression, etc., openly and covertly plundering, and turned the innumerable wealth of the eastern countries and people in the occupied areas into their war trophies, which were then converted into war materials.
He prepared 500 merchant ships and more than 800 armed merchant ships, and then attacked Formosa in a big way.
However, Wei Malang's ambitions were great, and his offensive was also fierce, but he was strongly resisted by the Ming garrison at that time.
How Wei Malang was defeated, the inscription does not say, probably for the Venerable Majesty, but it indicates who the Ming general was at that time.
His name is Shen Yourong, and the official worships the Ming Dynasty Auxiliary Construction Division.
The official announcement was that the Dutch were forced by Shen Yourong to withdraw from the Penghu Islands.
Then, Shen Yourong built a stone tablet with the inscription "Shen Yourong Retired Red Mao Fanwei Malang, etc.", which has a detailed description of this matter.
However, the content of the stele is very different from the stone tablet unearthed later.
In fact, it was the Dutch invaders who were defeated and lost by Shen Yourong.
This inscription became a problem for Wei Malang, and he finally found an opportunity to snatch this stone tablet, and now the stone tablet is lying next to his inscription, as material evidence of his merits.
However, in Wei Malang's own inscription, it is only said that the Ming general at that time, Shen Yourong, reversed black and white and slandered Governor Wei Malang, so Governor Wei Malang recaptured the inscription in order to defend the reputation of the Netherlands.
However, he himself was wounded by the enemy's trickery in that sneak attack, and after he barely returned, the treatment was ineffective, and he sacrificed his life for the country.
Then there were the governors, all of whom were the successors of Wemarang, who resolutely implemented the strategy set by Wemaro and continued to attack Formosa and the surrounding islands.
However, their exploits were both large and small, but the outcome was the same as that of Governor Wemarang, who died in the resistance of the Formosa army and civilians.
The cause of death was basically the local people who used unknown poisons to take their lives in an unpredictable way.
By the time of the sixth governor, it was the more famous Rayoz.
With the full support of the East India Company, he led a large number of armed merchant ships to Magong Port on Penghu Island on June 29, 1622, and landed at Magong Hongmucheng in Penghu on July 11. On August 1, the construction of the castle began at the end of the Penghu Wind Cabinet.
This aggression became the merit of Reyoz, which is recorded on his stele.
There are also more than 600 fishing boats of various types that he stole from the Chinese in Penghu, and forced the Chinese to build fortifications, forts, and walled cities for them, and so on.
As for his forced labor, more than 1,300 Chinese died of starvation and exhaustion, he will not mention it.
Rejouz also conducted reconnaissance and surveys of the sea and land of the port of Dayuan in Formosa. A number of commercial trade activities were also carried out, which undoubtedly prepared the way for the invasion of the island.
Later on, the Ming government was determined to drive the Dutch out of Penghu and defend the normal order of production in the Strait of Formosa.
Two years later, Nan Juyi, the governor of Fujian, sent a naval army led by Wang Mengxiong to land on Jibei Island in the north of Penghu and the east of Baisha Island, and launched an attack on the Dutch colonists, and the two sides fought fiercely several times.
One of the results of this is to kill Reyoz!
Rejouz's successor was the new Dutch commander and governor of Songk. They agreed to withdraw from Penghu, and the auxiliary authorities allowed them to trade in Formosa, providing an opportunity for the Dutch to occupy Formosa.
The inscription praises Song Ke's far-sighted achievement.
The first step in the Dutch occupation of Formosa was the port of Orang, which was located at the southern tip of the island.
At that time, there were a total of 11 islands off the coast of Dayuan, and to the north of the south channel of the Taijiang estuary, which was about half a mile wide, were the four islands of the end of the northern line, Jialao Bay, Langzi Port, and Haiwengxian. It forms a large harbor with a maximum width of 3 kilometers and a length of 30 kilometers, which can berth more than 1,000 ships at the same time.
In addition, between Lueryu Island and Kalao Bay at the northern end of the northern line is the Luermen Waterway with a width of about 500 meters. It is the main waterway into the Taijiang River. If there is no high tide, the channel of Luermen is too shallow, and it is difficult to pass through the warships with a deep draft, so it is easy to defend and difficult to attack, and has high military value.
Song Ke did everything to achieve the goal of aggression.
In September 1624, the Dutch armed fleet commanded by Song Ke. After leaving the tail of the Penghu wind cabinet, the members of Formosa came to the staff.
At that time, Song Ke, who pretended to be pitiful, proposed that he only need to borrow "a place the size of a cowhide", and the kind Chinese of course believed it, thinking that Song Ke and others were just going to stop the boat and go ashore, and they didn't need much space. I agreed.
The inscription says that Song Ke's wisdom deceived the Chinese.
How big is the big place of a cowhide?
The Dutch colonists first occupied the city and built the "City of Orange".
When the local Chinese asked Song Ke to promise "a place with a large cowhide", Song Ke actually divided a cowhide into very thin leather threads and connected them to enclose the land, which is "a cowhide".
The city of Orange, which was later changed to a "canton" of the Netherlands, was named "the city of Geranza", and became the "governor's palace" of the Dutch embassy in Formosa.
This was Songk's first major achievement and he gained a foothold in Formosa!
Song Ke's second stronghold was "Chikan Tower".
At the same time as the construction of the city of Geranza, warehouses, residences and commercial areas were built in Chikan on the opposite side of the Taijiang River, which was named Provencha City and later renamed Chikan Tower.
Later, strong fortress forts were built on both sides of the Taijiang estuary.
The Dutch, who occupied Formosa by deception, not only did not appreciate the Chinese who lent them land, but brutally plundered and suppressed them, and the colonists committed countless crimes in Formosa.
However, such evil will inevitably lead to retaliation from the local population.
This Song Ke was actually cut off in the barracks!
By the time of the 10th Governor, Governor Du Xianmin had adopted a strategy of division and disintegration, provoking contradictions between the local population and the Chinese administrators.
It is here that another cave is mentioned, where a greater secret is hidden.
