Chapter Seventy-Eight: The Ending (Part II)
She was carried and stuffed into a sedan chair.
The palanquin was wrapped in hemp rope and stones.
The big red sedan chair depicting dragons flying and phoenixes dancing peony flowers swayed in the wind, and the tassels on it were blown into chaos. The villagers carried the sedan chair and threw it into the river with a clatter. The sedan chair sank like a lifeless rock. The palanquin fell into the water and stained it red, like blood, spreading in the river.
I swam along the current, untied the rope, and saw the girl inside with her eyes closed.
Later, I learned about the tradition of Hebo's marriage.
Such a beautiful girl was forcibly pulled into the whirlpool. I took her cold hands and pulled her out of the red cage. Her phoenix crown fell off the top of her head, and her long hair fluttered like a pitch-black waterfall.
Since she is marrying Uncle He, this girl who is like a flower and moon is selfish, and she will be my wife from now on.
I didn't know her name, so I teased her by calling her the word "madam."
She opened her eyes dimly, her eyes were bright, and the corners of her eyes shone with crystal tears, like the person in the painting. I took her into the canyon, and in a daze, she fainted again. I hugged her and a red rattle fell out of her bulging clothes. The crisp sound of knock knock lingered in my ears.
I looked familiar, and it occurred to me that when I first came here, I was bored and made a little gadget out of fish skin. It must have been blown to the shore by the current, and was seen by the girl. I pinned the snare drum to my waist and put the girl on the rocks. Her eyelashes were beaded with water, and her skin was whiter than moonlight.
Soon after, she woke up.
She opened her eyes and looked left and right, thinking she was dead, only to find that she was still alive. I stood in front of her, amused. Her expression was a little wooden and dull, but she was afraid that I would hurt him. But later, I learned that she was a delicate girl, but she had been as helpless as duckweed, and she was indifferent to too many things because she couldn't do anything.
I said, "You will be my lady from now on." ”
Her eyes widened, as if she couldn't believe it was true, Liu Ye's eyebrows raised, and she asked in a low voice, "What?"
It was like picking up a wandering little wild deer at home, suffering from the torture of the world, cowering and trembling. I repeated one side more: "Ma'am." ”
She looked at the big red wedding dress she was wearing, then at me, and nodded, "Are you ...... Hebo?"
I laughed.
Laughed out loud.
She smiled when she saw me, covering her mouth. The setting sun fell on her face, shining her whole body warmly.
Later, she really became my wife.
Gradually, she opened up and told me stories about how she was very young. Her parents died early when she was a child, and she begged for a living, if she had enough to eat, she had the strength to do a little embroidery work, or a girl's family went to someone else's house to do part-time work. Originally, she was the person with the lowest sense of existence in this village, but suddenly one day, she said that Hebo was going to choose a bride again.
Everyone stared at this helpless little girl.
She initially cried out to flee the place. As a result, he was arrested by the sturdy villagers, beaten severely, and locked up in his room again. Slowly, she has lost hope in this place and is bent on dying. When she said these things, her expression was sad and thoughtful. But he hugged me tightly, called my name, and said that I was lucky to have met you.
I asked her, don't you care that I'm different from you humans?
Her smile is more delicate than a peach blossom.
Life is happy and content, but that's it.
What I didn't tell her was that in order to punish the villagers for not treating her well, I let the river dry up to the bottom. It is called that the heavens should not be, and the earth is not spiritual.
I used to grill fish for her to eat, sprinkle a handful of salt, and she would gnaw until her mouth was full of oil, like a little child, and her eyes were staring at one fish after another. She would also go to the mountains to pick some wild fruits for me, and although I didn't eat them, she would always stubbornly put these glass-like oranges and apples in front of me, and giggle for joy.
Later, she became pregnant. We discussed what names to give to the children, and embroidered cute clothes and shoes for the children. The child was kicking around in her belly, and I sent demonic energy to protect her fetus.
However, the situation has changed.
That night, the former river demon of Zhangmen Village couldn't let go of this treasure land, after all, the people here worshiped Hebo every once in a while, and threw down the girl who was like a flower and jade. He recklessly broke into the river again, and prepared to fight me with great force. The confrontation, which was originally thought to be over in a day or two, dragged on for three days.
We lived in a paradise at the bottom of the river, but I feared that the wind and waves would affect my wife, so I sent her to our secret canyon to give her a safe place. I told her I would be back soon.
She nodded, telling me to be careful.
She trusted me, but never thought it was the last thing I would say to her.
That night, my flames burned the body of the river demon, and he cried and howled, staring at me viciously. I felt uneasy and wanted to go to the valley to take a look. But thinking that this battle was about to end, if he killed the river demon, he would be able to hold her in peace in the future, so he entangled with him again.
Suddenly, the valley was ablaze.
He laughed and told me that if I didn't go back, my wife would die in the fire. We suddenly panicked, left the river demon, and rode away on the clouds. I let the river fall from heaven and fall on the blazing flames of the canyon. It was as if I heard my wife shouting, waiting for me to come back.
I heard the villagers shouting about the enchantress, who should have died, but was alive and well. They said they were going to burn her. I heard the villagers say that it was because of her that the village was in a great drought and there was no harvest.
I used all my strength, but I was outwhelmed by the fire.
However, by the time I arrived, it was already a mess.
She lay under the tree, no longer breathing.
It was like the first time I had seen her.
The villagers were so frightened by the flood that they had gradually receded, and she was still clutching the unfinished red belly pocket for the child. I held her body and pretended she was still beside me. If I hadn't left her, she wouldn't have died. But it's too late to say anything.
The river fell from the sky and flooded the village of Zhangmen.
There is no such village in the world.
Eventually, I found a marriage inn. The proprietress is a demon, and she smiled and told me that as long as I dedicate my memories and the most precious things, then I will definitely help me find her next life, and finally have a lover and finally become a family.
If there is an afterlife, I hope to meet her as soon as possible, so that she will not suffer so much, and live her life in peace.
Thankfully, it's not too late for me to meet.
