Chapter 6 Preparation before the start of school

Mr. Ollivander was paid eight Galleons, and Jon took his wand and hurried away.

Although he wasted more than an hour in Ollivander's wand shop, he was still very satisfied with the wand he obtained.

Because it is made of green bamboo, it is quite comfortable to hold in the hand, and it is much tougher and stronger than ordinary wood, and can even be used as a melee weapon in an emergency.

He then found Eric in Mrs. Morgan's robes shop...... Eric had already helped him buy most of the things on the list.

He carried a large bag full of clothing, including three plain overalls (black), a plain peaked hat (black) for daytime, a pair of protective gloves (made of dragon skin or similar), and a winter cloak. There is also a cauldron (made of tin, standard size 2), a set of crystal vials, a telescope and a brass scale.

The only thing left to buy is textbooks.

Jon opened the list:

Standard Spells, Elementary, by Miranda Goshawk

A History of Magic, by Bathilda Basshat

The Theory of Magic, by Adbay Wolflin

The Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration, by Emory Swicher

A Thousand Miraculous Herbs and Mushrooms, by Phedas Ball

Magic Potions and Potions, by Arseny Giger

"Breaking with the Female Ghost", by Gilderoy Lockhart

Travelling with Ghouls, by Gilderoy Lockhart

Vacation with the Dominatrix, by Gilderoy Lockhart

Walking with Trolls, by Gilderoy Lockhart

Traveling on a Boat with a Vampire, by Gilderoy Lockhart

Wandering with Werewolves, by Gilderoy Lockhart

A Year with the Tibetan Yeti, by Gilderoy Lockhart

There are 13 textbooks, and Jon is a little head-...... Especially the pile of "books" in the back of Lockhart, each of which is extremely expensive, adding up to twenty Galleons.

But it can't be helped, Jon gritted his teeth, he can't go to school without his textbooks...... Packed this pile of books into the shopping basket.

He bought three additional extracurricular books: Quentin Trimb's Guide to Defence Against the Dark Arts and Self-Defense, Newt Scamander's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Liberasius Baraci's Advanced Potions Preparation.

After buying so many things, there are less than forty of the previous hundred Galleons...... If it weren't for the shyness of his pockets, Jon would have bought a few more books on Defence Against the Dark Arts and Potions.

Fortunately, Hogwarts doesn't have to pay tuition and accommodation fees, and a first-year freshman can't go to Hogsmeade, so forty Galleons are not much of a problem for a year.

He declined Eric's offer to buy him an owl (an owl costs ten Galleons), as poverty makes people sensible.

......

In the last month at 86 Eastleigh Road, Jon immersed himself in the pile of magic books.

He went through more than a dozen books, including those "adventure novels" written by Gilderoy Lockhart.

The smallest room at 86 Eastleigh Road was converted into an animal room with several baskets of mice for experimentation.

The Reasonable Restraint of Underage Wizards Act has a small loophole in that it does not include young wizards who have not yet begun to learn magic but have already received a wand (they are not registered with the Ministry of Magic).

So Jon took advantage of this loophole and seized the time of the month to cast spells at home with his wand.

It's a pity that the results achieved seem to be a little unsatisfactory!

On the night of August 31st, Jon appeared in the animal house with a wand in hand

"Stupefy!" he said, raising his wand and pointing it at a rat cage.

The Stun Charm, a common spell used by members of the Ministry of Magic and the Order of the Phoenix, is also a very useful spell, which can be very effective for the target to temporarily lose consciousness, and even to giants and dragons. In the final pages of the Defense and Self-Defense Guide to the Dark Arts, Jon finds a way to use it.

At this stage, when the Unforgivable Spell is completely disabled, the Stun Curse is undoubtedly one of the most lethal spells in a single entity.

A faint flash of red light hit the caged mouse.

"......Squeak," the mouse let out a startled cry and quickly shifted its position, but that was all.

Jon smiled helplessly, this effect was already the best he had done in his entire summer vacation. If you hit the enemy with this spell, it will only make the enemy feel a little itch at most.

Stun spells, and indeed most spells, are fairly easy to cast, but difficult to really work.

Many of the spells in this world don't require in-depth study, but they rely heavily on the emotions of the wizard.

Just as to release the Unforgivable Curse, you have to be ruthless, and to release the Patronus Curse, you have to think of the truly happy things...... The release of the Stun Spell also requires the wizard to generate a feeling of wanting to stun the target from the bottom of his heart.

Jon felt that if he was in the worldview of DND, he was not a mage at all, but a bloodline warlock.

Because of his mental maturity, Jon rarely has too many emotional fluctuations, and this kind of emotional stability is not conducive to the release of many spells.

But not every spell he couldn't master.

Raising his wand again, Jon aimed at the mouse:

"Petrificus Totalus!"

For a moment, the expression on the mouse's face froze at the same time as the movement of its body, as if it was petrified, unable to move, only its eyes were rolling around.

The release of the Petrification Charm is not emotional, and it can be used perfectly by young wizards...... After a month of practice, Jon had mastered it well.

However, the flaws of the petrification spell are also obvious, as it takes several seconds from the time the spell hits the target to the time the target is completely petrified...... If the opponent reacts quickly, you can unleash the spell and launch a counterattack at the same time.

Putting away his wand, Jon glanced wistfully at the animal room in front of him.

Tomorrow I will be going to Hogwarts, and the animal room will lose its meaning until I turn seventeen.

He made his way to a corner of the room and found a glass cage that had been almost abandoned on this side.

Two red South African spiders lay quietly in a glass cage, next to the remains of many bread worms and crickets.

This is the "pet" that Jon asked Eric to buy for him two weeks ago.

The glass cage is carefully wrapped in cotton, packed into a carton, and then put the carton into the suitcase.

Near the carton, there was also a small bag of realgar that he went to a pharmacy to buy.

and an alarm clock in the shape of a rooster, which he bought at a supermarket in Southampton not long ago...... It is said that a rooster crows when it sounds, and Jon has brought a few extra batteries.

When everything was ready, Jon slept in bed and soon fell asleep......
