Chapter 296: Defeat is like a mountain

In George's view, although Arsene Wenger's shrewd management and transfer strategy have allowed Arsenal to become one of the few clubs in the Premier League that can make a profit every year, in general, a professor who does not like premium reinforcements and prefers to develop young players is more suitable to become a general manager or youth director than a manager of a top giant. If it were Arsenal who were desperately in need of getting out of the two predicaments of Graham's black-gold scandal and the team's declining results, then Arsene Wenger, who insisted on attacking football and technical flow, and was extremely keen to scout young players, was indeed the best choice. And now, as Arsenal has grown from a mid-table club in the Premier League to a top-tier team that is well-known in European football, Wenger's insistence on this transfer idea to run the team is undoubtedly a bit inconsistent with the Gunners' current status as a giant.

It is important to know that no top club has ever sold its own captain or key players every year, or kept the club afloat by buying low and selling high in the transfer market. Therefore, when Arsene Wenger does this, it means that Arsenal will be one level lower than other teams with giant signs!

One might argue that Arsene Wenger did so because of the financial pressures of building a new stadium to make a move in the transfer market, but let's not forget that Arsenal only had to repay £18 million a year to the bank after taking a loan from the bank and turning it into a long-term debt with a repayment period of up to 25 years. That's a lot of money for an Arsenal that earns around £50 million a year from television broadcasts, expects to earn between £8,000 and £90 million in ticket revenue when the new stadium is built, and has a lot of commercial sponsorship contracts.

The main reason why teams such as Lazio, Borussia Dortmund and Fiorentina fell into financial crisis or even bankruptcy that year was mainly due to short-term borrowings that matured in a year or two, plus less than expected income from television broadcasts. Therefore, when these accumulated debts are concentrated, Lazio will fall into the danger of bankruptcy and liquidation. Arsenal, on the other hand, have 25 years to pay off the debt – and in such a situation, it would be nonsense to say that Arsenal had no money to buy people because of the stadium loan problem!

This is the main reason why George chose to stop after creating a bit of a hurdle for Arsene Wenger in the first place when Arsenal built a new stadium. Because George knew very well that this would only add some pressure on Arsenal to repay the loan, and by the way, delay the completion date of the new stadium would not have too fatal impact on the Gunners' finances.

There is a good saying, the authorities are confused, and the bystanders are clear. Arsene Wenger, the architect of the current Arsenal squad, is unaware of these problems, let alone the caustic attitude he has shown towards his decorated veterans, who have had a serious impact on the likes of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva. At this time, he was shouting loudly on the sidelines, trying to re-boost the morale of the team and let the players cheer up as soon as possible, so as not to be taken away directly by Tottenham Hotspur!

I have to say that Wenger's idea does look very good, but the reality is very skinny. Although the likes of Bergkamp, Andre Pire and Patrick Vieira are highly professional and will not be distracted on the pitch by contract renewal issues and concerns about the future, this will still have a negative impact on their form. Plus Reyes, who has plummeted in confidence and form after a heavy setback, and Sendros, who was beaten by Drogba...... Arsenal's attempt to salvage the current unfavourable situation is simply not something that can be solved with a shout or two.

Not to mention, George's tactical set-up in this FA Cup final is also quite restrained by Arsenal's lineup. In addition to the defensive and counter-attacking strategies, George specially increased the frequency of Robben and Ronaldo cross-switching on the offensive end, allowing the former to impact Ashley Cole's defensive zone and arrange Ronaldo and Evra to deal with Lauren's right side!

Cristiano Ronaldo may not be able to deal with Ashley Cole on his own due to experience and age (Stephen Carr's support in attack after a serious knee injury has been much less than before), but Robben, who almost single-handedly supported the Dutch team's attack at last year's European Championships, has the ability to suppress Cole. After switching to the left, Ronaldo can join forces with Patrice Evra, who likes to press for assists, against Lauren, who lacks Ljungberg's right-hand man.

George's targeted tactical arrangement has had a very significant effect, and Lauren, who has limited ability, naturally has no way to resist the onslaught of Evra and Ronaldo. Especially now that the team is two goals behind and Vieira has to put more energy into the attacking end, the Cameroonian's right side defense can't help but become more and more fragile!

The threatening attack of Ronaldo and Evra on the left side, coupled with Xavi Alonso's intention to distribute the ball to Ronaldo's side, made the Arsenal players subconsciously form a kind of thinking inertia under the huge pressure, and unconsciously tilted the defense line to the right!

Sure enough, in the 35th minute, Alonso seized on the mental inertia of the Arsenal players and suddenly played the ball towards Robben's right flank when Vieira and Gilberto were all focused on Lauren's side. The Dutch Peter Pan used his speed to force a breakthrough through Ashley Cole's defense and then returned a pass on the bottom line on the right side of the penalty area, and Drogba, who was ambushed on the right side of the penalty area, once again pushed Senderos to the side, and picked up his right foot ten meters in front of the goal and volleyed directly!

Drogba's volley was full of power and even more rare to hit the goal frame, but Lehmann finally showed his level as a German international this time, with a beautiful flying save to block the ball out of the bottom line, a corner!

Although Lehmann proved that he was not old with a wonderful save, but then, when Alonso's corner found Evra, who was cut forward to the edge of the box, and the latter's shot changed line after hitting Senderos, Lehmann could only choose to look at the ball and sigh, 3-0!

Eight minutes later, Tottenham made a comeback. Davies stole the ball in the middle after another steal of Reyes, Robben drove straight into the big space left by Ashley Cole's press, and offered his trademark inward shot at the edge of the penalty area, the ball bypassed Lehmann's ten fingers and fell into the net, 4-0!

And just like that, before the end of the first half, the Tottenham players had already firmly held this season's FA Cup title firmly in their hands. Suffice it to say, unless a miracle happens that allows Arsenal to score four goals in a row in the remaining 45 minutes, no one can take the trophy away from Tottenham!
