The concept of land has changed, and the previous poems or articles, written about pastoral music and cooking smoke, are written as the "main theme", which is the core value of presenting that time. The word wanderer is said for the homeland, and the homesickness of the wanderer is also a kind of "main theme". But if today's writers write like this, they are called outdated or out of place.
Jia Pingwa's writings focus on land and peasants. He is aiming at a series of fundamental changes that are taking place on Chinese soil. "Impetuous" was written in 1988, after which he successively wrote "Waste Capital", "White Night", "Tumen", "Sick Report", "Gao Laozhuang", "Missing the Wolf", "Qin Cavity" and "Happy". "Impetuousness" is from the standpoint of the peasant, which is one of the limitations of this novel, but it is also a limitation shared by Chinese writers in that period. At that time, the word "endorsement" was popular, and writers were "spokespersons", writing agricultural themes was to speak for farmers, and writing industrial themes, military themes, and educational themes was to speak for different industries, that is, the subject matter of the novel was different, and the writer's position was also different. In today's era, when it comes to "spokesperson", the difference between spokesperson and spokesperson, one word, changes greatly. Although the spokespersons of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Taiwan Affairs Office are also talking about "local interests", their positions have changed, their horizons and perspectives have changed, and their involvement has become wider, and they are "local interests" in the overall environment. "Illness Report" is a legend, Jia Pingwa's deliberate change of narrative path, focusing on how defects arise after people's natural attributes are non-objective. "Gao Laozhuang" is the prelude to "Qin Dialect", a dress rehearsal before a big play, and a warm-up match before a football match. Jia Pingwa is the director and coach, and he experimented with various possibilities of tactics in the warm-up match, and at the beginning of the main game, he finalized the list of players on the field and their respective positions. After the main game, the audience watched the results, but the coach preferred the warm-up game because it flashed more of his football wisdom and tactical intentions. "Happy" represents a shift in Jia Pingwa's writing, as he begins to arrange a way out for the peasants who are suffering from the hardships of life, and this novel has the color of "tomorrow", in which the characters exist in a deformed posture, or cold humor. Dry humor is made by humor kings or people who have no sense of humor at all, Jia Pingwa's humor is in his bones, he did not see the way out of the Chinese peasants at this stage, and he himself was deeply troubled.
Jia Pingwa's rural China is at this stage, and his novels constitute an unprecedented change in rural China, and he is a maverick observer and thinker of China's rural problems, who is trying to find "laws", but it must be said that up to "Happy", he, like sociologists, has not found them. Or to put it another way, he's "crossing the river by feeling the stones."
