Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Woman in the Man's Play

"Are you an entertainer?" asked Kurosawa.

"Not yet, I'm learning from Director Chen. ”

At this time, it was very rude to talk about "how I am", and Lin Hai took the initiative to bring the topic back to Chen Kaige.

Although Akira Kurosawa is informal, it is indeed rude to invite people to leave them aside. He let go of his curiosity about Lin Hai and chatted with Chen Kaige.

Lin Hai acted as a translator with peace of mind, and did not add fuel and vinegar to show off his personal opinions.

The two talked a lot, involving film history, experience, outlook for the future, etc., Lin Hai listened to it and felt that he benefited a lot.

Chen Kaige is Chinese, and the two have to talk about Chinese movies.

For historical reasons (the pot of the Soviet Union), Kurosawa has never been to China in his life, but he knows a lot about Chinese films. Talking about his favorite Chinese movie, Kurosawa gave an example: "Qiu Ju Fights a Lawsuit".

"Zhang Yi is amazing, every corner of his lens is carefully arranged, the picture is processed very beautifully, and the application of color is also very satisfactory to my liking......"

Kurosawa talked about it and praised Zhang Yi.

While translating, Lin Hai secretly observed Chen Kaige's expression, thinking that Akira Kurosawa praised another director in front of him, and he didn't know what he felt in his heart.

Having said that, this kind of brainless thing is probably what Kurosawa Akira can do.

chatted and chatted, and finally talked about Chen Kaige.

Akira Kurosawa said: "I have also watched your film, "Farewell My Concubine" was filmed well, why has there been no action since then?"

Lin Hai was shocked when he heard this, here he is!

In fact, Chen Kaige also filmed a "Fengyue" after "Farewell My Concubine", but Kurosawa didn't mention it, and he didn't know if he hadn't seen it, or the film couldn't get into his eyes. As for saying that he hadn't heard of it, Lin Hai thought it was unlikely, and "Wind and Moon" had also been nominated for Cannes.

Hearing Kurosawa Akira mention it, Chen Kaige had no choice but to answer.

"I've been planning a new film for the past few years, and I'll probably see the audience next year......"

These are Chen Kaige's original words.

When Lin Hai was translating, he omitted the second half, he didn't want Kurosawa to be too curious.

However, Kurosawa still asked the question that the two of them were afraid to encounter-

"What kind of film is it?"

……

Chen Kaige rubbed his forehead and said to Lin Hai: "You can tell him directly, you know it very well anyway." ”

Okay, Chen Kaige began to shake the pot.

The problem is that Lin Hai has to carry this pot whether he wants to carry it or not.

He then said to Kurosawa.

"This film is about a period of ancient Chinese history......"

Lin Hai told the plot of "Jing Ke" to Kurosawa in an easy-to-understand way, Kurosawa nodded again and again, and asked Chen Kaige happily: "When will this film be released?" ”

Lin Hai glanced at Chen Kaige, who was there with the old god, and didn't bother to translate, and said directly to Kurosawa: "This film will be released in Japan next year, but it's ......."

"But?"

"But I was talking about the previous script, and now the script has been changed......"

"What has it become?" Kurosawa's curiosity was piqued.

Seeing this, Lin Hai told the plot of the new script with the psychology of breaking the jar and breaking it.

Kurosawa listened with interest at first, and as he listened, his brow furrowed.

Kurosawa's brows furrowed deeper and deeper, and when Lin Hai talked about his original "emotional drama", Kurosawa slapped the floor and said angrily: "It's unreasonable!"

Seeing that he was angry, Lin Hai quickly stopped.

Kurosawa Akira is old after all, and when he is excited, he is shaking all over, and the woman in the kimono hurriedly supports him, helps him follow his back, and persuades him softly.

Lin Hai looked at Kurosawa very worriedly, he was not afraid that Kurosawa would beat people, but he was afraid that the other party would not be able to get angry in one breath, then he would become a public enemy in Japan.

After all, it is a cultural business card on the same level as Mt. Fuji, and even if the Japanese hate him, it is impossible for them to be indifferent to the "murderer".

"Mount Fuji" did not fall, he relieved himself, glared at Lin Hai, and asked, "Who wrote this script?"

Lin Hai whispered: "It's me." ”

"You?"

Kurosawa was a little confused by this unexpected answer, and forgot to get angry for a while, and looked at Lin Hai carefully.

Lin Hai was stared at by him and explained: "I met director Chen Kaige in Cannes and talked about the movie script, and he thought my idea was very interesting, so he handed over the screenwriting work to me. ”

The implication is that the decision to change the script was made by Chen Kaige himself, and the new script has also been approved by him, even if Kurosawa wants to lose his temper, he should go to Chen Kaige.

It's not very kind to do this, but who made Chen Kaige not know Japanese?

Lin Hai said, the enemy's artillery fire is fierce, I will go back to the ditch and squint for a while, Lao Chen, you will be on top!

……

Lin Hai's treacherous plan did not succeed.

Kurosawa did not turn the finger at Chen Kaige, but continued to stare at him.

After a disturbing silence, Kurosawa spoke.

"Nonsense! What a good script, changed to something!"

Kurosawa opened his mouth, and Lin Hai breathed a sigh of relief.

Although the tone is harsh, combined with his glorious history, it is already very mild.

"This is a man's play, what are you doing with the love element? It's nonsense! And ......"

Kurosawa began to criticize the details in Lin Hai's script one by one, talking endlessly, looking at the posture and saying that tomorrow will dawn in one breath.

In China, when the seniors scold the juniors, the latter can only listen obediently, and rebuttal or confrontation will be regarded as disrespectful.

This is also true in Japan.

Lin Hai lowered his head and humbly admitted his mistake, and inadvertently found that Chen Kaige actually nodded seriously.

Lin Hai rolled his eyes.

If I scold you, it's okay if you don't help, is it fun to pretend to be fun?

Lin Hai's action of rolling his eyes did not escape Kurosawa's eyes.

Kurosawa paused and asked, "Do you disagree?"

Lin Hai said: "No. ”

"Is there any?" Kurosawa said unhappily: "If you have an idea, say it, I'm not a person who can't tolerate other people's opinions!"

Lin Hai complained in his heart, but you are that kind of person.

……

was criticized by Kurosawa as useless, Lin Hai was unconvinced, he had a single-minded mentality, and was ready to defend himself.

Debating is also about skill, and you have to choose different angles according to your opponent.

is different from when he persuaded Chen Kaige, this time Lin Hai did not talk about commercial films. Knowing that Akira Kurosawa hates commercial films, he still starts from this angle, so it's strange not to be scolded.

Lin Hai is ready to excuse himself from the script itself.

"You're well-informed, but I'm the screenwriter of this play, and I think I have more say in the script. You just found a lot of faults, some of which I agree with, and some of which I have different views. ”

Driven by the desire to survive, Lin Hai did not rashly put forward his opinion, but first said a soft word.

Kurosawa raised his eyebrows and said, "Okay! You're a screenwriter, so tell me, why is it called joining a love scene?"

Lin Hai knew he would ask.

If there is one place that makes Akira Kurosawa most unhappy in the whole script, it is the love between Lin Hai's original Gao Fade and the singer.

As mentioned before, Lin Hai's script is based on Gao Yuanli as the first protagonist and Jing Ke as the second protagonist, and the relationship between the two is a bit like Yuan Chengzhi and Golden Snake Langjun in "Blue Blood Sword". Among them, Jing Ke uses a side description, and the main timeline is Gao Yanli's experience in Song Zicheng.

About this experience, the historical records roughly record it like this-

After the failure of the assassination of Qin, the king of Qin ruled the world and established himself as emperor. He had the disciples of Prince Dan arrested, and they began to flee. Among them, Gao gradually changed his name and surname, and hid in Song Zicheng as a bartender.

Gao Yuanli himself is a musician and is good at building, and he happened to hear that there was a guest in the host's house, and his skills were itchy for a while, revealing his identity. Gao was immediately regarded as a guest by the master, and gradually became famous in Song Zicheng. The news reached the ears of Qin Shi Huang, who summoned Gao to leave, cherished his talent, and planned to leave him to perform for himself, so he pardoned him for his capital crime. But Qin Shi Huang was suspicious, and out of vigilance, he blinded Gao Yuanli's eyes. Gao gradually gained the trust of Qin Shi Huang, and during a performance in the palace, he put lead into the building with the intention of stabbing Qin, but in the end, he failed to hit Qin Shi Huang because of his blindness. Gao was killed.

This experience is not complicated, and there are no female characters from beginning to end, so why did Lin Hai add a relationship to Gao Yuanli?

Is it just for dog blood?

Of course not.

Lin Hai did this for three reasons.

The first reason is that it is a last resort.

Kurosawa said that this is a man's play, and he is not wrong, but there is an actress in the list of actors that Chen Kaige gave to Lin Hai.

If it was an ordinary person, it would be fine, but she was Gong Li.

Gong Li is very much looking forward to starring in this play, so the question is, Gong Li is the person who matched Chen Kaige and Jing Guanxi, and is also the current top actress in Chinese mainland, no matter what, you can't use a role like a maid to send it away, right?

In Chen Kaige's original script, Gong Li played Zhao Ji. Zhao Ji is the biological mother of Qin Shi Huang, and the weight is not heavy, but now that the protagonist has changed from Qin Shi Huang to Gao Yuanli, the role of Zhao Ji is very chicken.

Lin Hai did not have Zhao Ji in the script, he needed a female character with a heavy enough role, so he created the role of a singer. This is the first reason.

The second reason is for balance.

"Thorn Qin" (the name of the new script) is a men's play, and it needs more and more red flowers, which is a consistent practice in commercial films, which is more pleasing to the audience.

Audiences in any country will not like a movie that is all made up of muscular hunks, even "Spartan 300 Warriors", doesn't it also cram a queen character (Lina Heidi)?

As for the third reason, it is more complicated to explain, which is related to Lin Hai's understanding of movies.

……

The first two reasons can't be told to Kurosawa that the popcorn routine is the thing that the old man dislikes the most, and Lin Haigang has just criticized other kitsch, and at this time he said that he wanted to do it too, isn't that a slap in the face?

Lin Hai can only talk about his understanding of the film.
