Chapter 584: Good and Evil (I)
Sending Cumberland's soul away, Todd followed the moss-paved path toward the depths of the island.
After a short walk, Todd saw his daughter.
Aurora was tugging at the manticore's tail, asking him to play with her.
Angry and funny, Todd walked up to Aurora's side, tapped her lightly on the head, and said solemnly, "Let it go." β
When she turned around and saw that it was her father, Aurora instantly pursed her mouth aggrievedly, looking like she was about to cry.
Todd crouched beside Aurora, sighed, and asked softly, "Why are you bullying that poor guy?"
Aurora wiped her eyes with the back of her hand: "I didn't want to bully it, I was just too bored and wanted to find a friend to play with me......"
Todd shook his head helplessly and turned to look.
The manticore, freed from the entanglement of the young dragon, was hiding behind a large tree, looking at Aurora with a frightened expression, as if he had seen a man-devouring beast.
Todd rubbed Aurora's little face and asked, "How are you going to befriend it?"
Aurora sobbed and said, "It has been avoiding me and not wanting to be with me, so I can only hold on to it and not let it leave me." β
Todd flicked Aurora's bangs with his fingers and said softly: "If you force others to stay by your side by force and intimidation, you will never get a friend, at most you will be a slave." β
Aurora looked up, her eyes widened and asked, "So what should I do?"
"You have to show kindness and try to help as much as you can, so that you can reap friendships. Todd turned to the side, motioned Aurora to look at the manticore behind the tree, and whispered, "My daughter, think about what you can do to be friendly to each other?"
Aurora tilted her head for a moment, then reached out and took some jerky from the cloth bag around her waist as a snack and shook it at the manticore.
The latter shrugged his nose when he saw the jerky, and quietly poked his head out from behind the tree, but his body was still on guard.
Todd whispered to Aurora, "You're almost there, try harder." β
Aurora picked up a piece of jerky, put it in her mouth and chewed it, and as she ate, she used the expression on her face to indicate that the food was delicious.
The manticore cautiously stepped out from behind the tree, approaching Aurora little by little, and hesitantly looking at the food in the latter's hand.
Seeing Aurora clutching the jerky, Todd smiled and said, "Remember what I said, in order to get something, you must first learn to give up another. β
Todd's words made Aurora hesitate for a moment.
Immediately after, she gently placed the cloth bag containing the jerky on the ground and took a few steps back.
Seeing this scene, the manticore leaned forward, and while vigilantly observing the girl's movements, he stretched his mouth to the cloth bag.
Slowly, the manticore finally came to the side of the cloth bag, stretched out its barbed tongue, and rolled a piece of jerky into its mouth, but only chewed a few bites, and immediately squinted its eyes pleasantly, and its thick tail kept shaking.
Soon, after a bit of gobbling, the manticore finished its jerky in the cloth bag, and like a large docile cat, it slowly walked up to Aurora's side, rubbing its head against the latter's calf.
Surprised, Aurora crouched down, stroked the beast's chin with her fingers, and said excitedly to Todd in the midst of the other party's comfortable grunt, "Father!"
Todd nodded with satisfaction and said, "Stop bullying it and cherish this hard-won friendship......"
As he spoke, Todd turned and walked forward, his voice getting softer and softer, almost inaudible.
"After all, the more precious something is, the easier it is to despise it, and you will regret it when you lose it. β
Todd made his way down the forest path, boulders and trees floating in the sky, and the towering tentacles of the Leviathan loomed.
With purple hair dancing in the wind, Skaha held the stone tablet of Genesis in his right hand, and while looking at the distribution of buildings on the ground, he motioned to the angels around him to arrange them.
"Deflect the soul portal track of Antuci Hall a little to the northwest, turn the energy base thirty degrees clockwise, and slowly lower it, it's good. β
Dozens of angels, under Skaha's command, waved their wings as they worked together to return the floating buildings to their places one by one.
After directing the construction of the area, Skaha turned his head to see Todd.
Slowly descending from the air to the ground, Skaha asked Todd, "The worldly business is done?"
Todd shrugged his shoulders and smiled, "For you, those are just mundane things, but for me, those are the people I care about." β
Skaha put away the slate and said in a faint voice: "Kingdoms, wars, and domination, everything is in the past, and the focus is on how to continue and multiply the race, and how to avoid extinction. β
Todd remembered something and asked Skaha, "By the way, I have some questions for you about the angels and demons you created. β
"Speak. β
"I have Shields and Massenus preside over a soul trial today, and the two of them judge things from a very ...... perspective Different. β
Todd pondered his words and said, "Shields' judgment of the value of souls is more biased towards ...... Conservative, while Maximus is more ...... Radical. β
Skaha corrected Todd, "Your description may be a little off, Shields is more inclined to maintain order, and Massenas is more inclined to choose chaos. β
Todd was a little puzzled: "I always thought that angels represent order and goodness, and demons represent chaos and evil. β
Before Skaha could speak, a deep voice came from Todd's feet: "Ah, I know this, thousands of years ago, there was a group of philosophers who divided the value orientation of the soul into four extremesβopposing order and chaos, and opposing good and evil. β
Skaha shrugged at Todd, "This is the topic that Leviathan is most interested in. β
Leviathan's voice came from the ground again: "That's right. Todd, do you remember the questions I asked you in the soul space?"
"Which orientation is more suited to the survival and progress of the race, self-interest or altruism, and should powerful gods interfere with the choices of living beings?"
"These problems, in fact, boil down to the opposition between order and chaos, between good and evil. β
Todd rubbed his temples and said, "Wait a minute, before I discuss these issues, what exactly is the value orientation of angels and demons?"
Skaha replied, "Shields represents the ultimate in order, and Massenus represents the ultimate in chaos. The two of them will consider and judge issues from two different extremes, and finally reach an agreement through negotiation and compromise. That's why I created them in the first place, to introduce two sets of opposing algorithmic mechanisms to quantify the number of souls, and finally reflect them in the scales. β
Todd asked, "So, angels are not good, and demons are not evil. β
Leviathan spoke, "Good angels and evil demons are but the words of the world to deceive children. But this topic is back to the focus of our previous discussion. Orderliness and chaos represent the state of all things, while good and evil are nothing but subjective self-judgments of living beings. I say that, do you understand?"
Todd frowned, "I don't quite understand. β
"Let me put it this way, even if all living things are extinct, the two-dimensional pair of order and chaos will still exist in the universe, because their existence does not need the support of consciousness, and good and evil are the subjective judgments of intelligent beings on language, behavior and phenomena, and if living things die, there will naturally be no so-called good and evil. β
Todd was thoughtful: "Somewhat understood. β
Leviathan said again: "I take the topic a little deeper, good and evil are themselves a false proposition, they exist and do not exist......"
Todd interrupted Leviathan: "Wait, I'm a little confused. β
Skaha shook his head and said, "Leviathan likes to discuss these issues in the tone of a philosopher. Let me put it simply, the emergence of good and evil is often accompanied by the subjective imagination of the user. For me, Leviathan, and Todd, for us, kindness is to stop genocide and keep the existence of beings in a virtuous circle. β
Todd nodded and said, "That's right, that's right. β
Skaha stared into Todd's eyes and said softly, "In order to accomplish this ultimate goal in our minds, there are times when we have to take actions that are not comfortable. For example, sometimes we have to deceive believers and hide the truth from them, sometimes we ask others to give up their personal possessions and pursuits in order to meet the needs and development of the community, and sometimes we even ...... They will even have to sacrifice a person or a race to force them to give up their right to continue to live......"
