The control of purity, first, the purity of the parents should be high, that is, there must be no hybrids in the seeds of the male and female parents, otherwise, it will be infinitely harmful.

For example, the mother parent. If there is a hybrid rice in the female Zhenshan 97 sterile line for seed production, the seed offspring it produces will become the seed of the field, although it can also be tasseled and flowered, but it is an empty rice husk that cannot bear fruit, and the grain is not harvested.

If it is the father's parent, the result will be even more serious. If the male seed for seed production is mixed with an ordinary rice seed, the pollen of ordinary rice does not have the ability to restore the sterile line seedlings, if the pollen is transmitted to the sterile line, although it can produce seeds, but the seedlings that grow from the seed sowing do not have the ability to tassel and bear fruit, and will always be in the situation of only tillering and not jointing and flowering.

In a rice field, there are even three or two "big green trees", although they have no impact on the total yield, but they look very eye-catching, as if they stand out from the crowd. If there are ten, eight, or dozens of trees, then the field is not good, indicating that there is a serious problem with the purity of the seeds. By the second year, the units that sold these seeds could no longer sell new seeds. With so many mongrels, who would dare to buy them.

Therefore, seed purity is the top priority in hybrid rice seed production. In particular, the purity of the male seed is not like the female parent, if it is not pure, at best, the seeds on a seedling are ineffective. The paternal parent is different, its pollen is fluttering, tens of thousands, as long as it falls on the stigma of the female parent, it is a hybrid after insemination.

Therefore, these days, the breeders are in the field all day long.

Removing miscellaneous is easier said than done. Whether it is a paternal rice or a female rice, under normal circumstances, it is difficult to distinguish between the hybrid and the original in appearance, so it must be carefully identified, and most of them are identified based on personal experience.

The first is to look at the height of the plant. If the plant is too tall or too short, there is a good chance that it may be a hybrid or a mutant. Variants are also among the clearers.

The second is to look at the leaf margin. The leaf margins of the sire Rice International 661 and the female Zhenshan 97 sterile line are serrate, distinct and deep.

Again, look at the leaf veins. The veins of the paternal rice are pale green, while the veins of the female are dark purple.

In addition, the color of the blades, the fluff on the surface, etc., can also be identified by comparison.

It may not seem too difficult to master these criteria, but it is not easy to actually find a montag from the field. Even if you look closely and your mind is a little less focused, the obvious mongrel will slip out from under your nose. So much so that often after half a day, some people can't find a single mongrel. It's not that the hybrids in this field have really been removed, it's that you haven't found them.
