Chapter 356: The Road to Hell

Motuo, since its excavation, has been known as the top 10 hiking trails. Over the past few years, it has attracted many trekking enthusiasts and has become the Mecca in the hearts of countless people.

Whether you've seen Homer's The Code of Tibet, you've been fascinated by the depiction of pools of blood. Or Baby Anne's "Lotus", a 96-kilometer-long three-day itinerary that needs to climb over the 4,200-meter-high Duoxiongla Snow Mountain, pass through the dense locust area, and deal with landslides and mudslides at any time is an irreproducible classic.

Riding all the way, I was finally able to get down and do activities, and I have challenged many dangers all over the world, but if I missed even my own land, it would be too much, right?

I heard that with the completion of the Duoxiongla Tunnel, it also means that this ancient mountain road that has connected Motuo with the outside world for thousands of years will eventually be replaced by a modern icy road due to the lack of people walking and the damage caused by geological disasters.

If you miss it now, it could be a lifetime.

This place is different, all people who come in and out of Motuo can experience the drastic changes of cold, heat, cold and heat within tens of kilometers or even several kilometers, as if winter and summer can be changed in an instant.

This is a tropical jungle embedded in the snowy plateau, and the world's deepest and most dangerous Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon hides a warm and fertile paradise. Slash-and-burn farming, gathering, fishing and hunting mean abundant products and simple and natural happiness.

At the foot of the snow-capped mountains, tropical jungles grow, and deep in the steaming canyons are scattered with wooden villages. The surrounding plantains are swaying, bamboo forests are swaying, and small farmland is dotted around.

However, it is only through a difficult and treacherous, hellish journey that one can reach this isolated paradise.

A paradise in every hiker's mind, with a difficult challenge and beautiful scenery. From primeval forests to snow-capped mountains and meadows, from alpine valleys to chain suspension bridges, wading through rapids, passing through leech areas, heavy rains, scorching sun, and rainforests will all be experienced......

Even the guide said: Don't talk about the road in front of people who have been to Metuo, because there is no more difficult road in the world than here.

Take a truck from Pai Town to Songlinkou and start the real hike, there is no mobile phone signal throughout the whole process, and the mobile phone only has the function of taking pictures here. There is no phone, no WeChat, no circle of friends, just the sound of the soles of shoes hitting stones, the mournful sound of birds chirping in the primeval deep forest, and the sound of gurgling water when falling asleep with a wet quilt......

The first step up the snowy mountain has a slope of more than 65%, a gravel road, and an elevation climb of several hundred meters in a straight line. If it's May or June, a large area of snow will begin to appear halfway up the mountain, and the entire summit will be covered with ice and snow, making it easy to get lost. The first step further up the slope has eased significantly. If you're lucky, you might even see a snow lotus.

Even within a few months of the opening of the mountain, rain, snow, hail and fog are still coming, and the difficulty of climbing is even more than some of the peaks of five or six thousand meters, and many heavy laborers and horses remain in the mountain pass forever, so the locals call it the ghost gate of the Metuo Road.

The guide reminds everyone that they must climb the Doxiongla Pass, which is more than 4,000 meters above sea level, before 1 o'clock in the afternoon, after which the summit will be filled with dense fog and snow, and it is easy to get lost and dangerous.

Fortunately, everyone is experienced in a hundred battles, and after climbing the 4,221-meter Toxiongla Snow Mountain, from a winding stone path, there are various large and small waterfalls on the way. Walking through this section, you can see a small stream called the Duoxiong River, which is formed by the water of these waterfalls. After searching for the trail and walking down the mountain on a dirt road, you will reach the camping site on the first day.

The top of the mountain is among the clouds, the foot of the mountain is by the river, there are four seasons in a day, ten miles of different days.

The night here is very quiet, the eastern mountain peaks block the rising moon, the surrounding is extremely dark, and looking up at the starry sky overhead, it feels as if you are living in a bottomless black hole in the universe.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, deep in the mountains of the frontier. Although I don't believe that it can cleanse the soul, at least it can make people forget themselves. Whenever I walk exhaustively on the sea of clouds, above the snow line, or curl up in a tent to avoid the wind and snow, I feel a sense of silence in my heart when I see the beauty that will not be repeated again.

The thin air and the mountain breeze mixed with snow particles make this silence even more special, a coolness that seeps into the soul, and many times, time seems to stand still. In the night when there is no mobile phone and no signal, under the silent snow-capped mountains, by the hot fire, chatting and drinking a little wine, such a night is too romantic, and I have a good dream tonight......

The next morning, I walked out of the lager hut and into the dense jungle, following the trail to see the tall green trees on both sides. I have been walking through the dense forest, and many of the roads are walking on small streams, and the trails are relatively obvious.

The main risks of this section of the road are slippery road conditions, rocky streams, be careful of sprains, slips and falls, and pay special attention to protecting your knees.

The first line of the Motuo trekking is remote and primitive, inaccessible and has a good ecological environment. There are many animals that live and breed here, such as black bears, Bengal tigers, etc., and snakes are especially abundant.

The snow-capped mountains on both sides of the canyon and the abundant water vapor of the Indian Ocean that flows upstream along the Grand Canyon of the Brahmaputra River bring a large amount of water to the mysterious plateau island of Metuo, and also give birth to this rare subtropical primeval forest in China.

Legend has it that there are tsampa trees everywhere, milk springs everywhere, cheese flowing in the river, no servitude, no exploitation and fraud. It is a paradise on earth that does not grow barley and has tsamba, does not raise yaks and has ghee, and does not build houses and has a house to live in, so it attracted the migration of the first batch of Menba people.

Now it has been passed down for more than ten generations, the number has reached seven or eight thousand, the Menba people believe in animism, worship the gods of heaven and earth, mountain ghosts and tree spirits. Thousands of miles away on the border, barren mountains and mountains, around the fire pond to roast the fire, listening to the story of the Menba girl Lazong, a lifelong unforgettable experience.

In every neon-lit night of the city, in every day without stars and milky ways, I occasionally think of the small village of Khanmi and the simple family of the Menba people here......

On the third day, we set off from the Lazon's hut and shortly after a winding wading path to the No. 1 landslide area, which is steep and covered with gravel, where it is not easy to use trekking poles.

Walk through the landslide area and arrive at the tiger's mouth, which is a plank road dug artificially on the mountainside of the Duoxiongla River Gorge, which is more than one meter wide and narrow enough to accommodate one foot, which is the only passage from Motuo to Nyingchi.

From a distance, the strange rocks on the curved plank road cliff are suspended in the air, like a tiger's mouth with a big mouth open, and below it is the turbulent Duoxiongla River. The top of the plank road has perennial snow melt water, the road is slippery, and landslides and rockfalls occur frequently, so you must be careful.

Truth be told, there are two factors that make the hike here unforgettable: in addition to today's landslide, there are countless heart-wrenching locusts.

The locusts are mainly distributed in the range of 1300 meters to 2000 meters above sea level, especially on the sunny slope at an altitude of 1600 meters. The foliage and grass are densely packed. Cross the leech area as fast as possible, and don't stay for no reason. And the leeches will bleed for several minutes after they are plucked.

Today's journey is a little easier, from the winding mountain road to the mountainside, past the houses, to the bottom of the mountain, passing a few bridges on the way, and finally seeing a large number of houses, to the county of Metuo. The winding mountain road is a never-ending road that will never be forgotten......
