The theory of human nature is one of the core contents of Confucianism, but Confucius clearly gave only one sentence when talking about human nature, that is: sex is similar, and Xi is far away. (The Analects of the Yang Goods)
Such an ambiguous statement will inevitably leave controversy for future generations, and the controversy of Confucianism for thousands of years can be expected.
"Mencius: The First Confession" said: "Water faith is not divided into things, and it is not divided into upper and lower things. There is nothing wrong with people, and there is nothing wrong with water. Now the husband of the water, beating and jumping, can make the wind, and the agitated action, can make the mountain. Is it the nature of water? What a person can do is not good, but so is his nature. "If it is a feeling, it can be good, and it is the so-called good." If the husband is not good, he is also guilty of being untalented. ”
The general meaning is: It is true that water does not matter whether it flows east or west, but does it not matter whether it flows upward or downward? Human nature is good, just like water flows downward. There is nothing unkind in human nature, and there is nothing in water that does not flow downward. Of course, if the water is splashed by the beating, it can make it rise above its forehead, and if it is pressed backwards, it can make it flow up the hill. Isn't that the nature of water? Man can force him to do bad things, and his nature changes like this. In terms of natural temperament, it can be made good, which is what I mean when I say that human nature is inherently good. As for saying that some people are not good, that cannot be attributed to the nature of nature.
At this point, Mencius set the tone for the Theory of Sexual Goodness.
But at the same time, another great Confucian Xunzi held the opposite view.
"Xunzi Sexual Evil" cloud: "Human nature is evil, and its good ones are hypocritical." The nature of today's people is born with good interests and obedience, so they are born to fight for their lives and give up their deaths; they are born with diseases and evils, and they are obedient, so they are born with the evil and evil, so they are born with the evil and are faithful; they are born with the desire of ears and eyes, and they have a good voice and lust, and they are obedient, so they are born with fornication and are born with propriety, righteousness, literature and science. However, according to human nature and people's feelings, they will be out of contention, and they will be in trouble and violence. Therefore, there will be the transformation of the teacher's law, the guidance of etiquette and righteousness, and then out of resignation, in line with the literature and science, and return to the rule. From this point of view, then the evil nature of human beings is clear, and the good ones are hypocritical. ”
Unlike Mencius, Xunzi's view is much more intense - human nature is evil, and those good deeds are acquired. Human nature is born with a preference for wealth and profit, and follows this nature, so people have the desire to plunder and plunder, and the character of humility disappears; they are born with the psychology of jealousy and hatred, and they follow this nature, so they will be killed and framed, and the character of loyalty and trustworthiness will disappear, and they will be born with the desire for sound and lust, and they will have the instinct to like beautiful music and beautiful sex, and they will follow this nature, so there will be lewdness and confusion, and the law of etiquette and righteousness will disappear. Indulgence of human nature, then, in accordance with human lust will inevitably lead to plunder, which must be in harmony with the violation of hierarchy and the disturbance of etiquette and law, and eventually return to the situation of riot. Therefore, it is necessary to educate the teacher and the Dharma seat, and to guide the etiquette and righteousness, so that after that, people will make the virtue of giving in to the resignation and humility, and people will abide by the etiquette and law of the country, and (the country) will eventually move towards stability and peace. Using these facts to see the nature of people, then the truth that people's nature is evil is obvious, and those good deeds are acquired by people.
To this day, the debate between "sexual goodness" and "sexual evil" is still unfinished. The banner held high by the two great Confucians has been passed down to future generations for thousands of years. (Note 1)
And Jiang Qinghan's concept is also extremely radical in the [Theory of Sexual Evil].
They believe that human nature is inherently evil, and that greater evil can be used to stop the evil of others when necessary. As long as we ensure that the end result is good and the purpose is just, then violence and evil are tolerated.
Among the hundreds of sons, the concept is closely related to the [cornerstone]. In other words, supernatural power is an extension of the idea.
It's no wonder that Jiang Xuance is worried about the two people fighting, after all, the concept of "killing to stop killing" is too fierce. It hurts others as well as yourself.

Note 1: Mencius did uphold the Theory of Sexual Goodness, but many scholars now believe that Xunzi actually supported the Theory of Sexual Simplicity.
Xunzi said that "sexual evil" is only found in the "sexual evil" chapter of the book "Xunzi" in the late Western Han Dynasty, which was sorted out by Liu Xiang, annotated by Tang Yangliang, and engraved and printed by the Song Dynasty (the name of the ancient book of the pre-Qin Dynasty was added by later generations), and Xunzi talked about sexual evil for the first time in Xunshu's first compilation, Liu Xiang's "Sun Qing Shulu". After Liu Xiang, there was the Eastern Han Dynasty Wang Chong's "On Balance" and Xun Yue's "Shen Jian" mentioned Xunzi's talk about sexual evil, before Xunzi's disciple Han Fei and others said that human nature is good and profitable and emphasized the law but did not say sexual evil, Xunzi later learned Lu Jia, Jia Yi, etc., all emphasized education, not to mention sexual evil, Dong Zhongshu and Sima Qian did not cite sexual evil, but said that Mencius admired sexual goodness and Shang Yaoshun, so Lu Simian's "Jingzi Solution" said that the theory of sexual evil "is a foreign army in Confucianism, and there is no ancestral book until 200 years of the Han Dynasty, and there is no rebuttal."
What's even more strange is that the Song book "Xunzi" has two clear words about "the nature of the material is simple": 1. The "Treatise on Etiquette" chapter "Therefore, it is said: the sex is simple and simple, and the pseudo is prosperous in literature and science...... Sexual hypocrisy and then become the name of a saint, and the work of the day is also done. Therefore, it is said: Heaven and earth are united and all things are born, yin and yang are changed one after another, and sex is pseudo-combined and the world is governed...... The paragraph of "Treatise on Etiquette" has nothing to do with the context at all, but is highly consistent with the "Saint-Sex-False" chapter of "Sexual Evil", so it belongs to "Sexual Evil". 2. "Sexual Evil" chapter "Eyes are clear and ears are deaf" Chapter Xunzi explained that Mencius said that the lost sexual good party turned evil into "detached from its simplicity and its capital" to become evil, and also explained that Mencius's so-called sexual goodness is actually "not separated from its simplicity and beauty, not separated from its assets and benefits" (it refers to the "human nature" in the previous text), and repeatedly analogized to the intelligent performance without leaving the ears and eyes of the material, which is undoubtedly the "material-sex" relationship under the "material simplicity/capital simplicity".
