Chapter 18 Sticks
In this world, in fact, everything does not exist in isolation, there must be a cause before and an effect later. Pen & Fun & Pavilion www.biquge.info
It's just that some things have been passed down from generation to generation, and in the process of inheritance, there have been some changes in the social environment, and most people don't like to bother with brains, to seek solutions, and only know how to do it according to the script, so in the end, people will have the illusion that "some things are originally like this, and there is no why".
This situation exists in many fields, such as language, food, daily life, and even all corners of life, even the rules of the rivers and lakes are no exception. As a result, the roots of some traditions are gradually lost to circulation, and even the exact opposite fallacies are produced.
For example, in the hidden language of the rivers and lakes, the word "smashing open fire" is like this.
Its original intention was to fight for the open fire and commit a late-night burglary, but a modern TV series is far-fetched and uncoincidentally explained as raping (raping) women. As a result, a bunch of stupid children who don't know the details of this reason, and they also quote it at will, which can be regarded as a ridiculous phenomenon in the world.
Another example is what many people often say now, "standing sticks" and "poking poles", although the original intention has not been completely lost, but the source and origin are no longer known.
Here, we might as well pursue one or two of these two words, which have achieved the purpose of tracing back to the source.
Speaking of which, these two words basically mean the same thing, and they are essentially used to describe a person who has exclusive power and can dominate within a certain range of rivers and lakes. But the question is, why does it have to be associated with sticks and rods as a land snake?
This issue has been associated with the cult of force, interpreting sticks and poles as ash rods, meaning "power comes out of the barrel of a gun."
There are also people who believe that it is an act of "pulling a big flag as a tiger's skin", which is to understand the stick and pole as a flagpole, and think that it is a kind of whitewashing oneself with a name and raising one's prestige.
But these explanations are all wrong, and the real meaning is actually related to one of the oldest and most powerful factions. That's the poor family, the beggars.
Speaking of this, some people may think that they understand, and feel that the meaning of sticks and poles is actually the stick that beggars hold when they beg for food.
It's not wrong, but it's still too simplistic and one-sided. Because the correct solution actually starts from the belief of the poor family, which is also related to the origin of the beggar gang in the capital.
The beggars of the poor family were worshiped by Fan Dan in the early years, and later changed to worship Zhu Hongwu. It is rumored that there are two reasons for this.
The first is because Zhu Hongwu himself once begged for food with beef bones.
The second is because Zhu Hongwu was rescued by beggars, and the two beggars who saved him were later crowned by the emperor and became the ancestors of the beggar gangs in the north and south capitals.
This incident happened when Emperor Yuan Shun, due to the opening of the Yanjing examination room in the north, Zhu Hongwu went north to catch the exam. Walking to the land temple in Liangxiang County, he suddenly suffered from typhoid fever and fell into the hall.
At that time, at sunset, it happened that two beggars surnamed Suo and Li Er entered with clay pots. Seeing that Zhu Hongwu was ill, the two beggars were moved by compassion, so they cooked the leftovers they begged for him with firewood and grass. Unexpectedly, by the next day, the illness had been cured.
After that, until Zhu Hongwu ascended the throne, the emperor remembered this kindness many years ago, so he summoned two beggars and wanted to save his life with an official reward.
Unexpectedly, the two beggars are very self-aware, and they are still willing to be beggars.
So Emperor Hongwu issued a decree and ordered the two beggars to use the Taiping drum when they were to beg, and ordered thirteen copper bells to be installed on the drum, one bell representing a province, indicating that the two were allowed to ask for the thirteen provinces of the world.
Subsequently, they also gave each of them a bamboo pole with yellow ears falling to show the emperor's grace. Since then, Fan Suo and Li Erqi have to give money wherever they ask for money, regardless of whether they are merchants, residents, civil and military officials, as long as they see poles or drums.
Later, after Shuo and Li left the palace. Because of deep regret that he did not ask Emperor Hongwu for a place to live, he actually dug a hole in the city wall and lived in the Tongji Gate, and the officials on the ground did not dare to stop him because they were afraid of the bamboo poles and yellow ears.
As for the other ordinary beggars, they were very envious of the privilege of begging for the second beggar. So either the shuttle as a teacher, or Li as a teacher, so that the disciples of the shuttle Li increased their prosperity day by day, and later developed into six major tribes, namely Ding, Gao, Fan, Guo, Qi, and Yan six surnames.
It can be said that in the era of the former imperial system, there were many beggars in Nanjing, which was the highest in all places. The "Huazi Cave" in Tongji Gate is the place where beggars stay.
And this story was later processed and interpreted by Mr. Liu Baorui, a cross talk master, and compiled into a stand-up comedy "Pearl Jade White Jade Soup", which is probably not unfamiliar to many people.
Later, during the reign of Emperor Jianwen, the grandson of Zhu Yuanzhang of Taizong of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Di, the king of Yan, forced Emperor Jianwen away. The usurper moved the capital to Yanjing, and many beggars came north with him, and since then the Nanjing beggars have officially settled in Yanjing. Even in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, there were still many "poles" (black words, that is, beggar heads) in Beiping.
At this time, these beggars have their own jurisdiction, and they can be roughly divided into two branches: "blue pole" and "yellow pole". The "Yellow Pole" was composed of the children of the Eight Banners who were in dilapidation and poverty, and was an organization of high-ranking beggars, and the beggars were filled by the prince Baylor. The "Blue Pole" is the leader of the common beggars.
The only thing that has not changed is the scepter-type token that evolved from the hanging tassel pole, which is still the recognized representative of power in poor families.
At that time, the power of the beggar gang in the capital was not small, the wind of evil and evil was prevalent, and the official management was not good, so that the people and merchants suffered greatly. Therefore, every time a household holds a red and white celebration, or every time a merchant opens a new shop, he will spend money to invite the "pole" to go to the door to protect and prevent other poor beggars from disturbing.
And the beggars also have a large score, or suits and leather shoes, or robes and coats, and when they are in a big way, they have to bring three or four minions with them, as if they are the chief of a place, even when they arrive at the lord's house, they have to sit at the head table.
In addition, in addition to eating, drinking, and collecting money, the only thing to do is to paste a piece of paper at the door of the main house, or hang a pole, a leather whip, or a dry tobacco pipe, with the words "The brothers of your house shall not be harassed" and so on, which is called "cover the door".
Once there is a cover door, just like having an amnesty certificate, the beggar in the gang sees the cover door, like a little ghost who sees "Jiang Taigong has no taboos here", he must retreat. Don't dare to be wild, the main family will give as much as you want, and if you don't give it, you will leave.
However, if the shopkeeper or the owner of the business does not know the rules, or does not want to spend money, it is guaranteed that many beggars will come to disturb them, and they will not be rude, but will just crowd in front of the door to obstruct the view, and even play evil words, sing whatever is depressing, and do not give money. Make it difficult for you to do business, happy events are not happy, white things are even more worried, and even if you report to the officials, the government will not take them.
Speaking of which, it is clear that in fact, this kind of rule is the real source of the so-called "standing sticks" and "poking poles" today.
Of course, after the liberation, all the stereotypes and bad habits of the old society were eliminated, not only the ruffians, hooligans, and bullies were gone, but the beggars also disappeared from society, so these rules and regulations naturally disappeared. In the early stage of the founding of the People's Republic of China, there was actually a history of about 20 years of dynasties.
However, with the advent of the "movement" period in the sixties, the society returned to chaos and the "players" began to rise, so some old rules and regulations also re-emerged, and evolved again, becoming the norms pursued by the new generation. In this way, the emphasis on "standing sticks" and "poking poles" has also been revived together.
It's just that now, in the circle of "players", this form has mutated into a ritual similar to "opening a mountain and setting up a cabinet" and forming a small gang. Its main significance has also changed from the low-level personnel who drove the beggars to deter them to a self-propaganda role aimed at all walks of life as "players" and "Buddhas".
Take Hong Yanwu as an example, although he also knows the true origin of this rule, if he wants to return to the "rivers and lakes", get back his own "things", and complete this kind of ritual, it has become the next thing he must do.
As for why it had to be so, Hong Yanwu had his own ideas.
He first thinks that he knows the people in his circle very well.
Whether it is the "Playing Master" or the "Buddha", there are many bastards, many brainless, many who forget their righteousness, and few who are righteous, but the bad is bad, and these people also have evil spirits. At this stage of the rivers and lakes, no matter who you are, you have broken the rules, and neither can the king of heaven.
Because fundamentally, in any industry and anywhere, it is not a meaningless move to establish rules and talk about rules, but in essence, it is to better protect the interests of the industry itself. That's why the consequences of breaking the rules are so serious.
It is precisely because of this that he "lifted" You San is an act that offends the anger of the public and is unreasonable. Just imagine, if you "lift people" today, and I will "lift people" tomorrow, then there is no need for the public security to solve the case, and the world of rivers and lakes will have to mess up first, where will there be room for big guys to survive?
Originally, if he chose not to set foot in the rivers and lakes anymore, this matter might really be perfunctory in a confused way. But now he is forced by the current situation at home, and he has to go back again. So put aside the trouble caused by the matter of "lifting people", let's not talk about it, and then do other things, we must follow the rules step by step. Otherwise, we will inevitably be treated with the hostility of more people and fall into absolute unrighteousness and helplessness.
Fortunately, the biggest rule in the rivers and lakes is the supremacy of force after all. Moreover, many of the principles are much looser than those of the old social gangs, and there are no certain rules, no matter how big the problem is, as long as there is room for return, it can be discussed.
Therefore, when the time comes, as long as he takes advantage of the selfishness of the majority of the people, and during the wait-and-see period when these people have the intention of profiting from the fisherman, he will first use violence to subdue the enemy who has a conflict of interest in the first place, and finally give up some interests and come up with an appropriate rhetoric against other forces that have little to do with it.
With his decades of experience in the world, if he guesses those people's careful thinking wrongly, it will be called vain.
And at the same time, I want to say that even the worst things will have some good. For example, through the matter of "standing sticks", he can not only bring back some of the people under his old command, but also observe the reactions of other forces. When the time comes, there will always be all kinds of small shrimp and small trash fish that will jump out for the master first, or for temptation, or for hostility, or for wooing, or for currying favor, which is naturally convenient for him to decide the next step.
And, most importantly, he owes too much to his family. Especially my father is now facing a life-and-death dilemma, and the rest of the family is at a loss. So no matter what, now it should be the time for him to contribute, as long as he can, even if it is a big risk, no matter how difficult it is, he will sacrifice himself, without a word, unconditionally.
Truth be told, he has no other way to go now than to take a risk! )
