Chapter 458: A Complaint from a Consumer
Open the major automobile websites in Huaguo, we found that it must be indispensable for a certain independent brand to release a new car, and this new car is already the Nth model launched by the car company this year!
For example, a car brand that has just been born less than a month ago - a certain Teng Automobile, officially signed a contract to develop a new car on October 31, 2013, and was finalized on June 1, 2014, and 33 days later on July 3, the first vehicle has been successfully put into production, which can be said to have created the world's fastest new car development and production record.
Such a short time of research and development did not make Huaguo people feel how good Huaguo's car brand is, on the contrary, they felt that the car manufactured so quickly must not have undergone rigorous research, demonstration and testing, and the car that was finally handed over to consumers was just a splicing of parts, and there was no tuning at all, let alone handling and safety.
In a word, it's all rubbish!
In fact, there are many independent brands that have this problem, and they assemble a new car in a panic for profit.
Some brands even launched three SUVs of the same level in less than half a year, and the speed is simply embarrassing to international car manufacturers!
However, large manufacturers such as Volkswagen and Toyota have repeatedly complained by netizens that the launch of new cars is too slow and cannot keep up with the speed of consumer demand.
So the question is: how long does it take for a car to go from R&D to mass production and then to consumers?
Although it has been a long-term goal for automobile manufacturers to shorten the R&D cycle of automotive products, this R&D cycle has been maintained at about 3~5 years, which is difficult to shorten.
However, there are also differences in the concept of the R&D cycle of automotive products between different companies: the main reason is that the timing of the start of R&D is different, some companies start from the initial concept conception period, while others start from the release of final drawings.
For example, the development cycle for the all-new Volvo XC90, which was unveiled last year, is around 42 months, and Volvo has an ambitious goal of reducing the product development cycle (from concept to primary production) to 20 months by 2020, and as a transition, they have set a near-term goal of reducing the development cycle to 30 months by 2015.
In other words, even the flagship products of an international manufacturer like Volvo will take 3-4 years to be developed!
It's just a pity that all these plans have been disrupted by Liu Feng's new energy vehicles.
As for Mercedes-Benz, which is known as the "inventor of the car", it is also meticulous in the time of car research and development.
For example, Mercedes-Benz S-class, as the successor of Mercedes-Benz W221, the design of the tenth-generation Mercedes-Benz S-class W222 has been carried out since 2009, and it was not until May 2013 that the tenth-generation Mercedes-Benz S-class held a launch ceremony in Hamburg, country D, that is to say, the new Mercedes-Benz S-class also took 4 years to complete the development and mass production.
To sum up, in fact, when a mature automobile company develops and manufactures a car, it needs repeated research, research and technology development, not just the assembly of parts bought from the spare parts factory.
And those domestic independent brands that launched N cars in half a year are really too utilitarian and do not really spend their minds on building boutique cars.
Of course, it doesn't mean that the assembled car is not good, at least the Kirin generation luxury supercar assembled by Liu Feng and Zhou Yue by hand has blinded people's eyes.
However, in fact, putting aside the battery, the R&D cycle of electric vehicles is shorter than that of traditional gasoline vehicles (generally about 1~2 years), and Fengyue Automobile itself has its own core technology - room temperature superconducting battery, so it is sought after by consumers.
Even so, it took Liu Feng and Zhou Yue almost 1 year from the design to the production of the Kirin 1st generation sports car!
However, it can no longer be seen that the automobile company that regards R&D as assembly will not be able to go long, which can be seen from the current domestic consumers' full complaints about domestic manufacturers; if it were not for the protection of national policies, independent car brands would have been killed by others long ago.
Therefore, this time, Liu Feng took out a more serious attitude towards his Kirin 2 generation supercar.
As for Miss Zhou Yue's side, although she has not joined the design of the supercar, she has been leading the team independently, and wants to design several main brands of Fenghua automobiles, and it is not a luxury that only a few people can afford to enjoy.
Without further ado.
The wind tunnel used to test the Kirin 2 prototype is a semi-enclosed circulating structure, an oval air duct, and the only opening in the middle is a platform for the test object, which is 8 meters long, 4 meters wide and 2 meters high.
According to the laboratory staff, this wind tunnel can simulate wind speed experiments at up to 15 times the speed of sound, and the supercar designed by Liu Feng has a maximum speed of only 500 km/h.
Using such a wind tunnel to test his car is completely a missile to fight bacteria, and it is overkill.
In fact, many old professors in the laboratory are quite dissatisfied with this matter, if it weren't for Professor Liu, who also gave money in accordance with the rules, so that the procedure was completely "just", they might really do something "out of line".
Even so, there are many people who say that out of sight is clean and leave the work at hand to someone else.
In fact, the most advanced wind tunnel in the laboratory of Jiaotong University can only simulate 15 times the speed of sound, which is not very advanced; only the aerodynamic development and research center in Shuchuan has the most advanced wind tunnel laboratory in the world, and the highest speed of sound can be simulated at 35 times, which is the thing that stands at the top of the human industrial world!
If it weren't for the distance, Liu Feng really wanted to put his Kirin sports car over there for experiments!
Even so, he was already planning to put the wind tunnel experiment of the spacecraft over there.
Back to the wind tunnel test site.
Under Liu Feng's order, several on-site workers fixed the prototype car on the flat of the test bench.
The wind tunnel was full of young people, and to be honest, they didn't have the disdainful temper of those professors, but even when they heard that it was for Professor Liu to test a supercar, they ran out one by one, almost fighting for the task of being able to install sensors in the car!
Yu Zecheng was one of the lucky winners in this draw.
If it was a normal experiment, this product would basically never stay in the field at the first opportunity, because it was all hard work, but now, it is running up and down, just to be able to get up close and personal with this sports car!
"Yu Zecheng, hurry up, it's my turn!"
"Go, go, Lao Tzu just got in the car for a few seconds?
……
I have to say that men's obsession with sports cars is like their obsession with beautiful women, especially when there is a beautiful woman in front of them for them to want.
It took 20 seconds to quickly install a sensor on the door cockpit, and in the past, he had to fiddle with this sensor for at least 2 minutes!
As for the rest of the time, of course, it is greedily stroking the steering wheel of the Kirin 2.
"It's a pity, such a pretend, B opportunity, can't take pictures!"
Reluctantly got out of the car, and the other one couldn't wait......
For the actions of these people on the scene, Liu Feng naturally saw it clearly through the big screen.
But he didn't say anything.
As long as you don't leak secrets, you won't lose a piece of meat or anything when you touch it, so why be so stingy?
As for this experiment, the main purpose is to verify what level the drag coefficient of the Kirin II can reach, and then he can make further modifications to the structure of the body according to the specific parameters.
With the sensors in place, the on-site staff evacuated step by step, and Liu Feng finally pressed the switch for the wind tunnel test with his own hands.
In an instant, the huge turbine fan blades brought a huge force, and the gusts of wind roared like a tornado, roaring through the passage of the wind tunnel.
"Wind speed 10km/h!"
“20km/h!”
……
The wind speed continued to increase until it finally accelerated to 200 km/h, when it stabilized.
The reason why it does not continue to improve is because this speed range is the speed range that cars experience most often, which can basically represent the overall wind resistance level of the car, and in fact, according to the traffic laws of China, 120 kilometers is already the limit, and few people can run to 200.
The first step of the experiment is perfect, and the next step is the overall wind resistance test of the body, the principle of which is that the wind blowing on the car body will give the vehicle a backward force, as long as this force is measured, the drag coefficient can be obtained.
As for how to measure, this involves another important component in the wind tunnel - the aerodynamic balance, which is specially used to measure various parameters such as drag, lift, side force, yaw moment, pitching moment and so on.
It's complicated to say, but everything is automatically calculated by the computer, and the role of a human is just to move the mouse on the computer.
This step didn't take long.
Soon, a complex set of data was presented on the computer.
"0.179? well, barely qualified. ”
Recording the data casually, Liu Feng muttered to himself.
Generally speaking, the drag coefficient of an aircraft is between 0.08~0.1, while the drag coefficient of a car is between 0.2-0.5, and the drag coefficient of a sports car (racing car) is generally less than 0.35.
It's just that Volkswagen has a concept car with a drag coefficient of 0.180, which has dominated the list of cars with the smallest drag coefficient in the world for two years!
For Professor Liu, since he wants to do it, then do his best, the previous Kirin 1 generation has not been able to exceed 0.18, which has made him very regretful, this time with the help of wind tunnel experiments, it is natural to go to this record.
0.179?
The person in charge who saw this data couldn't help but sigh.
I heard that this guy has been engaged in car design for no more than two years, but he can break the conventional record as soon as he makes a move, is this the difference between ordinary people and geniuses?
Shaking his head, he finally stopped expecting Liu Feng to do the experiment wrong, and turned around and left the laboratory.
Victory in the first battle.
Liu Feng then gradually increased the wind speed to 500 km/h – the limit of the Kirin II supercar design.
Generally speaking, the resistance that a vehicle has to overcome when driving is the resistance to the loss of parts, the rolling resistance (also known as road resistance) and the air resistance generated by the tires.
With the increase of vehicle speed, air resistance will gradually become the most important driving resistance, at a speed of more than 200km/h, air resistance accounts for almost 85% of all driving resistance!
Therefore, only the lower the wind resistance and the stronger the power, can the top speed of the sports car refresh one limit after another.
After a while, the results came out.
At wind speeds of up to 500 km/h, the drag experienced by the car is converted to 2010 hp, and the maximum traction that the engine of this car can provide is 2150 hp!
There was no doubt that the result was a success, and the car withstood the test of 500 km/h.
However, Liu Feng was not very satisfied.
Because in his design, when the car reaches a speed of 500 kilometers per hour, the drag should be less than 2000 horsepower.
The deviation of 10 horsepower is definitely not perfect for him who suffers from extreme data compulsion.
I'll just note this point.
……
Of course, in addition to the wind resistance test of the car, there are also wind noise tests, flow field information measurement tests, and so on.
Among them, the wind resistance test can be completed in about 1 hour, and the most time-consuming is to use the smoke flow method to display the air flow field around the vehicle, the separation flow on the surface of the model, and the tail vortex data, etc., which will take at least half a day.
In general, the wind tunnel test is not simply to blow the wind on the car, it involves all kinds of disassembly, handling and recording work, but also to carry out accurate adjustment of detailed parameters, etc., which is not a simple one or two experiments can be completed.
And when the wind tunnel is started, it consumes a lot of electricity.
This brings us to another issue – the cost of the experiment.
The automotive industry has a complete set of charging standards for wind tunnel testing, but roughly calculated, the cheap ones range from hundreds of thousands ~ 3 million each time, and the expensive ones need tens of millions or even hundreds of millions.
And from the beginning of a design to the actual finalization of a car, it is likely that more than one wind tunnel experiment will be conducted.
Therefore, often foreign car manufacturers, the cost of developing a new car has to be at least hundreds of millions, and it is still M yuan!
As for China, if you can have hundreds of millions of yuan, it is already a work of conscience......
Of course, the research and development cost of pure electric vehicles may be much cheaper, but the cost of factory construction is very expensive, often tens of billions, if there is no state subsidies to promote, few companies will have the motivation to develop new energy vehicles.
In addition, the new product must be relatively the most expensive in the early stage, and no one knows how many units this car can sell, if the sales volume is only 100 units, then the cost of each car will be tens of millions, and the risk can be imagined!
Tesla since the first car on the market, a car sold seven or eight hundred thousand, sales are still very good, but still lose money every year, although Bidia focuses on new energy vehicles, but if it is not for the state subsidy, it would have been bankrupt, and most of the funds of the two have been smashed on research and development and construction, which shows how terrible it is to spend money on new energy vehicles.
Of course, since the advent of room temperature superconducting batteries, electric vehicles are destined to become the mainstream of the automobile market, even if the construction cost is high, at present, it can not stop the big money of automobile manufacturers, one by one scrambling to get money and land, expand production capacity.
No money? The capital market roared twice!
No land? The local government is hoping that these gods of wealth will come over quickly!
As a result, it has been less than half a year since the launch of the Kirin generation, and the entire new energy vehicle market has been turned upside down.
This, of course, also includes Fengyue Automobile.
The large investment of 10 billion yuan in the new factory has all settled in Jiangzhou.
After all, Jiangzhou's automobile manufacturing industry is quite developed, and it is the base camp of Chang'an, Dongfeng, Lifan and other automobile groups, and automobile manufacturing itself is also a pillar industry in Jiangzhou, not only because it is Professor Liu's hometown.
As for the OEM of Fengyue Automobile in recent years, it has also been negotiated with Chang'an and Dongfeng under the leadership of the government department, and as long as the car design of the young lady is finalized, it can be OEM mass production.
Of course, the high cost of R&D and factory construction has led to some car factories only selecting a few data to do wind tunnels in order to save costs, and even some simply only do digital simulation wind tunnels, and even more so, even this step can be directly ignored, so that when Liu Feng is still honestly doing wind tunnels, there are already many manufacturers on the market that have launched several new energy models.
The purpose is naturally to accumulate experience, of course, due to the insufficient supply of superconducting batteries, coupled with the fact that prices are still high, the batteries of these models still use traditional lithium batteries, so the sales volume is naturally pitiful.
Of course, this also reflects Professor Liu's attitude of excellence and serious car making, so that the cost of tens of millions of wind tunnel experiments has not been taken to his heart at all......
