Chapter 43: The Wailing Basin

The Wailing Basin is the most famous prison of the Soul Seat, located in the middle of the Far North, a depression formed by the De Gea Mountains. Unlike the rest of the glaciers, the De Gea Mountains are mountains with a continental skeleton, and although they are not high, this mountain range is endless.

Because it was not affected by the Ice Fountain, this area was eventually designated as the prison of the Soul Seat. The prison is run by the Banshees, the undead creatures who are somewhere between spirit and entity, and are the best prison guards. Not only were they powerful, but they also had a penchant for torturing others, and now they were supporters of Malthus, guarding over the Lich and the Captives of the Bloods.

Because the banshee's howling and soul-destroying properties are also effective against the undead, the basin is often inaccessible. Today, however, the basin is home to a group of uninvited guests.

"What's next?" one of them asked, "how do we break through?"

The interrogator was none other than Claire, who had been promoted to Legend with Charlotte three days earlier, and the latter had set up an illusion trap when he noticed someone was snooping, leading the Secret Ritual out of the encirclement once again. The group made almost a circle around the Far North, finally arriving at the legendary Wailing Basin.

The group came to the edge of the basin to observe the enemy's situation, and only then did Claire ask questions.

"Do you know what defensive holes there are here?" Charlotte asked.

Claire shook her head, "You know my relationship with Malthus, in fact I've never been here. ”

After he finished speaking, the group looked at Violet in unison.

Gloria, the Chosen One she once supported, joined forces with Malthus twice, and if anyone could possibly know about the region, it would be her.

"As far as I know, there are no holes in the Wailing Basin. Vellet pointed into the distance, "Look there, it's the black buildings in the basin. The building had only one entrance and exit, and no windows. Because the banshee, as the caretaker, was somewhere between the physical and the imaginary, there wasn't a single superfluous door. The walls are made up entirely of extremely strong cold iron, and they are covered with vigilance spells, and if they force their way through, thousands of banshees will gather in a matter of minutes. ”

After hearing this, everyone couldn't help but gasp.

"We don't have to force a breakthrough. At this point, Charlotte pointed to her eyes, "We just need to deceive those banshees." And this is my forte. ”

"Is it possible?" asked Claire. As an undead, banshees are naturally highly resistant to psychic spells.

"Not before, but now......" Charlotte smiled slightly, "I'm still a little sure!" but there can't be too many people infiltrating, so let's do it, me, Claire, and Willett sneak in, and Ramsay, you take the rest of the people outside to respond." ”

Ramsey nodded yes, and the people with the secret ritual lurked in the mountains to answer. Charlotte, Claire, and Willett walked straight to the Wailing Basin.

They didn't hide anything, in fact, even though it was called a basin, there was hardly any vegetation here, and there was nowhere to hide in the snowy earth.

The huge, square-shaped, tomb-like prison sits lifelessly in the middle of the basin, and as you walk towards it, you can occasionally see banshees circling around the surrounding crypts and mountain walls. From a distance, their ethereal bodies are pale blue, spinning and flying in the air, and there is a dreamlike beauty.

But once they change form, they become terrifying monsters with ugly faces, eagle wings and talons, and decaying bodies.

It is said that the first undead banshee was the product of a spell experiment, in which the necromancer captured the harpy and transformed it into a half-spirit, half-body undead monster through a series of brutal spell rituals. The painful ritual process made the banshee extremely disgusted the creatures, and regarded the harpy as a mortal enemy.

This is an extremely dangerous monster whose innate ability, Banshee's Howl, is a powerful spell-like spell with an instantaneous lethal effect. The howl of a legendary banshee can even make the inhabitants of a city die instantly, which can be called a natural disaster-level existence.

Without warning, a banshee sprang out from a meter away from Willett's side, and in its spirit state, it could easily break through several meters of formation. The banshee that came out of the burrow startled Villerite, and she stared at the banshee, who was looking at the three Charlottes in confusion, their ugly face bewildered.

Charlotte ignored it and continued on her way, the confusion on the banshee's face even worse, and it began to circle up and down several people. It howled a few times from time to time, an unusual behavior that aroused the curiosity of the surrounding banshees, and soon, new banshees joined its frolicking camp.

From a distance, a dozen or so banshees, some spirits and some entities, circled along the moving procession, and the demons followed Charlotte like a flurry.

Violet pinched her sweat, she wanted to ask Charlotte what to do, but she didn't dare to speak in such a situation. She knew that if the banshees detected the abnormality, the banshees in the Howling Basin would bury them like a tidal wave, and even if Charlotte and Claire had risen to legend, it would be almost impossible to fight against the banshee community under the leadership of the Banshee King.

After walking for about ten minutes in such a state of anxiety, I could already see the main entrance of the prison in the distance. Charlotte stopped, and Willett saw him glaring impatiently at the banshee who had first entangled the crowd, his pupils red with gold, as if countless pale gold runes flickered at the base of his pupils.

In the next second, a strange change appeared, and the banshees around them seemed to have received some instructions, and immediately pounced and bit around the banshees who were doing trouble at the beginning. The three of them took the opportunity to leave the pestering group, and Violet looked behind curiously, only to see that in a short time, the banshee had been torn to pieces by her companions, her feathers fluttering in the snow, and her body had become countless corpses scattered on the ground.

Wellett gasped, and looked at Charlotte with a little jealousy.

But she didn't have the energy to delve into Charlotte's illusion abilities now, and they had reached the only gate of the Crying Prison.

When you look closely, you find this flat structure very strange. The entrance and exit gate is not high, about 3 meters, and the width is just enough for two people to go side by side. Other than that, the door has no decoration, no pattern, and not even any keyhole handles.

If it weren't for Villerit leading the way, Charlotte wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between the door and the surrounding wall at all.

There are no keyholes or handles on the outside of the door, which means that the door can only be opened from the inside. For a half-spirit banshee, there is naturally no difference between having a door and not having a door, but for Charlotte and the others, it is a huge difference.

At the end of the day, while there are handy spells that allow mages to transform into spirit states, that's just a tactic in battle. For Charlotte, it was impossible for him to transform himself into a spirit to pass through this gate, because that would mean that many of his methods would not be able to be used in case of distress.

Charlotte looked at Villerett and snorted at her.
