Section 545 Monument Courtyard Buddha (2)

I hurried to follow in their footsteps, winding up the steep and steep mountain road with rugged and steep mountain paths. The mountains are encircled, and the wind blows, the pine waves are gusting, but the scenery here is unique, we go up along the uneven, ancient mottled bluestone stone steps all the way, did not go too long, we saw the oncoming towering into the clouds, the famous stele of the Buddha, this is not the same as the modern society, the modern society in order to protect the Buddha, specially added an antique Buddha hall outside to shelter the Buddha from the wind and rain, and now the true face of the Buddha is revealed, it seems particularly eye-catching, tall and abrupt, it seems incomparably majestic and magnificent, standing in the mountains。 When we mortals walk under the Buddha, we immediately feel the insignificance of mortals, and we can look up to see the whole body of the Buddha.

The big Buddha is carved in the middle of the mountain at the altitude of 667 meters, it looks like the mountain is a Buddha, the Buddha is a mountain, the back rock stands, the south is slightly westerly. There is a stone niche on the left and right of the big Buddha of the big Buddha Yuji Mountain, there is a strange stone in the stone niche, the stone is like a dragon and a tiger, the left looks like a lying dragon on standby, and the right looks like a tamed tiger with a strange stone shape. There is a statue of Guanyin carved in stone on the right side, because of their existence, Yuji Mountain has more legends with mythological colors, and the matching of stones on both sides is particularly just right, complementing each other. The Buddha is 18 meters high, 6.1 meters wide at the waist, 5.2 meters wide on the lower limbs, and its thick and fleshy soles are also incomparably large, which can be compared with the dining table, with a length and width of about 1.3 meters. The big Buddha stands by the mountain, looking at its face from a distance, black and white eyes, shoulder-length long ears, Buddha-like hair, the expression is solemn and not lacking in kindness, the view is amiable, the round fingers, the mottled body shows the age of the age. Look at the big Buddha vividly, vivid, plump cheeks, shoulder-to-shoulder, dignified face, generous demeanor, eyes slightly open and level, overlooking the common people, thoughtful, in the quiet and majestic in the kindness, the view is amiable. The eyes are slightly open and level, the tip of the nose is thick, the tail of the nose runs through the center of the forehead, the corners of the mouth are slightly upturned, and the appearance is solemn and serene. The head has a meat bun, the chest is tied, the bare elbow is barefoot, the left hand is raised flat and the chest is aligned, the palm is upward, a toser, the right hand is raised, the palm is to the left, the thumb and the middle finger, the ring finger are interlocked, and the shape of the Buddha's hands is particularly good-looking, the orchid finger is slightly cocked, and the mechanics and aesthetics are both. Inside the monk's robe, thin and close-fitting, the outside is the inlaid robe cover body, the end of the monk's robe is slightly elegant, the sleeve length is over the knee, finely carved, the statue is rigorous. Facing south and slightly to the west, the negative rock stands, except for the upper part of the back is connected with the cliff, the whole body does not belong to the rock. The lower limbs are 2 meters away from the cliff, and you can tour around the legs. The outside is the robe cover body, the head and lower limbs of the Buddha are hollow round carvings, and only the waist and back are connected with the mountain stone. The Buddha statue is carved and chiseled rigorously, but the head is slightly larger, although the farsightedness is slightly a little uncomfortable with proportions, but the myopia is harmoniously proportioned, just right, without losing its simple and natural charm. The primary color is natural, and the whole body is shining, and the golden and brilliant piece is originally plated with gold. Bypassing the body of the Big Buddha, between the stone gaps behind its feet, there are clear streams of mountain springs slowly gurgling out, gathering in small pools, so there are clear springs in the depression behind the feet of the Big Buddha all year round. It is really a natural rare mineral water, our local people call this a sacred spring, divine water, drink a great benefit, prolong life, strengthen muscles and bones, increase talent and wisdom, this concept is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, those who come must drink, I can't wait to drink a sip, sure enough, it is still the taste after a thousand years, everyone also learns from my appearance, and is also curious to drink with hand bow water, it is really sweet and delicious, refreshing, amazing, it is estimated that most of the drainage system is there, the wisdom of the ancients thousands of years ago is really far away, not to be underestimated, there is because the county town to Yuji Mountain 20 kilometers of mountain road belongs to the subsidence zone, long-term closure, inaccessibleTherefore, the Buddha stands on Yuji Mountain for nearly 1,000 years and is almost unknown to the outside world, so this southern Buddha can go through thousands of years of time and be safe and sound, well preserved. Especially if it is the right time, when the sky is raining heavily, when the rain stops coming out, a burst of white mist drifts through, if the open air, there must be a turning scene, no wonder the Buddha is also called the fairy Buddha. In particular, there is a magical local villager legend of the god of the story of the god once upon a time there was a naughty child who climbed the cliff above the head of the Buddha to play, accidentally fell, and was caught by the Buddha with the palm of his hand, the child was unharmed, if this story is true, it is indeed a well-deserved fairy Buddha, and there is a magical shock absorption function.

Hu Jiaojiao praised and said: "Seeing is believing, it is worth the trip, this Yuji Mountain Buddha, by the way, it is also called the Buddha of the Tablet Courtyard, and it is also called the Southern Buddha, it is really extraordinary, the Buddha is indeed very tall, no wonder the Buddha statue is the largest stone carving round carving Buddha in China, no wonder and Leshan sitting Buddha, Dazu Reclining Buddha and called the three major Buddhas of Bashu, it is indeed worthy of its name, I carefully look at it, its demeanor, the beauty of the charm in the Sichuan Buddha can be called superior. Wang Gongzi also nodded and applauded. Duan Gongzi said with praise: "These people are indeed very good at choosing the address, from a scientific point of view, the geological structure of Yuji Mountain is very suitable for cliff statues, because the geological structure of the whole mountain is relatively stable, and the hardness and structure of the mountain stone are relatively ideal." At the same time, the side of the mountain where the Buddha statue is carved reduces the windward side, slows down the weathering rate, and reduces the harm of scorching sun and heavy rain. So after thousands of years, it is still as glorious as ever. ”

Hu Jiaojiao asked curiously: "Who is this, why did you build such a big Buddha in this deep mountain and old forest? And what age is this Buddha? I can't tell at all, and how much time did it take to build it?"

Brother Yixiu blurted out: "Such a huge Buddha statue, presumably it took a lot of work to excavate, and the private fund-raising could not pay attention to fine decoration like the royal family and nobles, and the villagers valued the compassion of the Buddha statue more." But it must have cost a lot of money, but what era it is, I do look left and right, up and down, and still can't see why. ”

I said in a beaming voice: "That's true, this is still undecided, who is the initiator of the carving of the Buddha? I am afraid that it is even more difficult to explain than the life experience of the Buddha." However, there is a legend about the origin of the Buddha, and the most widely circulated story among the people is: A long time ago, there was a family living on the mountainside, and the days were bitter and peaceful. The master dreamed of the Buddha at night, and the Buddha told him his location and asked him to ask someone to dig it. So, the man invited the craftsman, and it was strange to say that where the chisel touched, the stones fell one after another, and naturally, a sacred Buddha appeared in front of him. However, I think it was initiated by some local devout Buddhist believers, and in order to complete this grand project, those devout believers went to the people to raise funds through karma and fundraising, and then spent money to hire stonemasons who carved Buddha statues as a profession to design the entire mountain stone. Since there is no conclusive record of the exact time of the carving of the Buddha, there are three versions among the people. One version is that Cao Xuequan, a Jinshi of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, wrote in the twenty-fourth volume of the "Shuzhong Guangji" volume 24 "Famous Places of Interest": The southeast of the county (southern county) and Pengzhou (now Peng'an) are connected for 30 miles for Yu trace mountain, Yu controls the water through also, there is a small stone spring, the stone is chiseled for the image, the floor is covered, and He Ruxian of the Song Shaoxing has the record of the Yuji Mountain Courtyard. Therefore, people infer from this that the Buddha already existed in the Northern Song Dynasty. Another version is that during the reign of Tang Tianbao (742-745 AD), the northern wars continued for many years, and Tang Xuanzong took refuge in Shu, and a large number of painters, carvers, and monks followed him into Sichuan, and brought the prosperity of Sichuan culture and art. Later, the Sichuan totem stone Buddha entered its heyday. Dazu stone carvings, Anyue stone carvings, Bazhong stone carvings, Guangyuan stone carvings and Leshan Giant Buddha have emerged successively. The emergence of these stone carved Buddha statues shows that the best time for the "birth" of the Yuji Mountain Buddha was also that period. The third version is that in the fourth year of the Tang Dynasty (769 AD), Shen Rong (the nephew of Xipu Wei of Chengdu Prefecture) asked someone to carve the "Merit Record" and fifteen Buddha statues on Huilong Mountain, Panlong Town, Nanfang County, among which the shape and expression of the Buddha statues are strikingly similar to the Giant Buddha of Yuji Mountain. This shows that the craftsman who carved the Buddha and the craftsman who carved the Buddha statue of Huilongshan in the Tang Dynasty should be the same group of people, if the relationship between them is ruled out is a master-apprentice relationship, the "birthday" of the Buddha of Yuji Mountain is around 769 AD.

Xiao Fei said without thinking: "I have seen this in relevant reports, but I think I agree with the second statement, the clothing carving technique of the Yuji Mountain Buddha has an obvious Tang Dynasty heritage, and it also reflects the Tang Dynasty painting style of Cao Yi out of the water and Wu with the wind." Therefore, the reason why people carved such a big Buddha at such a high price at that time is likely to be related to the rise of Buddhist culture. ”

Duan Gongzi nodded and said: "I also think you are indeed reasonable, and this Rome was not built in a day, this Yuji Mountain Giant Buddha is definitely not built in just one day, it is not something that can be completed in a short time, but we can use the Leshan Giant Buddha for reference and calculation." Look, the Leshan Giant Buddha is 71 meters high, the carving time is 90 years, the original height of the Yuji Mountain Giant Buddha is about 18 meters, although the height is less than one-third of the Leshan Giant Buddha, but the difficulty is because it is a standing Buddha, the whole body proportion is strict and not inferior to the Leshan Giant Buddha. If the craftsmen are roughly the same, it is estimated that it will take about 20 years to carve the Yuji Mountain Giant Buddha. ”
