Section 8 Interesting Dragon Boat Festival

When I was a child, I grew up in my grandfather's house in rural Deng County, Henan Province. At that time, we only had four festivals in a year, the Spring Festival, Qingming, Dragon Boat Festival and August 15.

Because Qingming is to sweep the tomb and add soil to the grave, not only is there no festive color, but I am still a little afraid. We have the custom of adding new earthen forts to the ancestral graves before the sun rises, and pressing the graves with newly folded wicker sticks, so as to show that the descendants are prosperous. Therefore, on the morning of the Qingming Dynasty, the graves outside the village were full of filial sons and grandsons wielding shovels to add soil. My family lives in the village, and this scene is very exciting for me, and I am as solemn as adults, but there is also a touch of sadness. However, that feeling should be mutually influential, and those dead in the grave are all things I have never seen.

When I grew up to the age of nine, I joined the team of filial sons and grandsons during the Qingming Dynasty. After my grandmother died, they were an only child to my mother. My mother was working in Xi'an and couldn't come back when she was Qingming. My grandfather would send my third uncle to take me six miles away, to the rural cemetery where my grandmother and grandfather were. Because I was in a hurry, my uncle and nephew got up earlier than any grave man, and I always had the impression that when the dawn was still dark, the third uncle led the way with a shovel in front of him, and I followed behind. At that time, there were graves everywhere outside the village, and I was scared when I passed by in broad daylight. At this time, I walked behind and kept falling on my feet, and I was so scared that my heart was pounding when I wrote this scene. This kind of scene was not left alone by the third uncle until I went to high school and lived in the school (I would like to thank my grandfather's family for their kindness and set an example for the neighbors). Therefore, when I was a child, I didn't like Qingming very much, and I couldn't figure out why my grandfather and grandmother died so early. I can say that this festival brings me fear.

On the Mid-Autumn Festival on August 15, I must eat dumplings at noon, and I am still looking forward to this delicious meal. However, when I get older, I will come back from school and participate in making dumplings (T-shaped leather wrapped in a wonton-like shape). Grandpa has a lot of family, grandma rolls the skin, but the people who make dumplings are me and grandpa, and my hands hurt. This upset me, who doesn't like to work.

Needless to say, the Spring Festival is a national festival. However, during the Chinese New Year, as the only child in the family, I had to follow the adults to relatives. At that time, my relatives walked on their feet, and I was so tired that my feet hurt. In addition, there are many relatives' meals, but they are not as rich as mine. If it weren't for the sizable amount of New Year's money, I wouldn't have gotten there.

The Dragon Boat Festival is very different, and in my opinion, it is completely a children's festival (at that time, only Children's Day was celebrated in schools in the countryside). The Dragon Boat Festival is very grand in our place, and the meaning of the festival is also very beautiful, it can be said that the Dragon Boat Festival is the most beautiful festival in my childhood except for the Spring Festival.

When I was in my hometown, the Dragon Boat Festival we spent there now seems to be different from the rest of the country.

I have known since I was a child that there are Wu Gang and Chang'e on the moon. Legend has it that Wu Gang and Chang'e pounded medicine on the moon, and when they waited until the night of the Dragon Boat Festival on the fifth day of the fifth month of May, they would scatter the medicine that had been pounded for a year to the world to drive away evil spirits and cure all kinds of diseases.

At that time, the stars and moons in my hometown were bright, and when the moon was full, I could clearly see two young figures on the moon pounding medicine under the trees, they were Wu Gang and Chang'e. This has been passed down from generation to generation, and there is no need for special explanations, and it is known to women and children of all ages. Therefore, in the days of my hometown, I often look at the bright moon, and I always look at Wu Gang and Chang'e happily in my heart. Looking at their busy appearance, imagining how they would sprinkle medicine into the sky in the early morning of the fifth day of the new year, it was really exciting to think about it.

At that time, on the fourth night of the new year, I would try to sleep a little later, and repeatedly go out of the yard to raise my face to receive the medicine. There was a wind on Chinese New Year's Eve, and when I raised my face, I really felt the powder falling on my face. I happily told my grandmother, who smiled and didn't say anything. I thought, "Grandma may have been given the medicine many times."

We people there firmly believe that on the fifth day of the first month, the heavens will sprinkle medicine to ward off evil spirits and cure all diseases. Therefore, in the morning of the Dragon Boat Festival, everyone will get up very early to bathe in the river outside the village, and those with skin diseases will wipe it with dew. Normal people also go and wipe their faces with dew. These are done before the sun rises.

When I was six years old, during the Dragon Boat Festival, I accompanied my grandmother and the old ladies in the village to a big pond in a field one mile away from the village. My grandmother and many other people gathered around the pond, and they washed with reverent and solemn expressions, and took some water with bottles as they left. At that time, my grandmother went to wash her eyes because of red eyes. When she washed, she made me sit on a dirt slope far away from the water, and did not let me approach the water's edge, saying that she was afraid that I would fall into the pool. He also said: "Too many patients in the water have used it, and it is not good for children who are in good health to approach it, so sitting on the side and inhaling some medicine will expel the five poisons." "Now that I think about it, my grandmother was able to train my mother to be the only one with the highest education in the village, and she really has two brushes. I think she must have been sick and went to the doctor, and she didn't want to pass on the suspicions to me. After all these years, I don't remember my grandmother's appearance, but the scene of them squatting by the pond and washing their faces is still clear. It can also be seen how important the Dragon Boat Festival is to the general public. People with skin diseases are looking forward to this day.

There are many procedures for the Dragon Boat Festival on this day, in addition to the whole people (at that time, I think everyone lived like this) looking forward to driving away the five poisons and curing all diseases, there are also people who are busy running outside the village to receive dew to wash away diseases, and after completing the biggest event of the year, they all hurry home for breakfast, because that breakfast was too rich at that time.

Since the Dragon Boat Festival in our place, every family eats boiled eggs and boiled garlic in the morning. It is a boiled egg from a well sprinkled with medicine from the sky that morning (some people prick the egg with a needle and leave it outside the house at night so that the medicine can also enter the egg) and the new garlic. In my house, each person has five original flavors and two salted eggs (salted duck eggs), a total of seven, plus one head of garlic cooked together. "Seven eggs" was the standard in every house at that time. This makes me think that raising chickens at that time may be just to eat on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival. Families always start salting eggs early and then save white eggs. At that time, there were many children in the family, and every morning the family boiled a pot of eggs. "Seven eggs" per person was still the same when I left my hometown. Of course, I can't eat that much. Grandma was always reluctant to eat it, and like me, she never ate seven eggs. Eggs and garlic are eaten because boiled garlic and eggs in medicated water can cure diseases of internal organs. Look at how important it is in people's hearts to save energy during the Dragon Boat Festival. Moreover, if you can eat so many eggs in one meal, it will be this day of the year. At that time, only mothers were allowed to eat more than one egg a day. At noon, there is also a meal of meat noodles or steamed pork buns.

The above are the grandeur of the Dragon Boat Festival and the importance to everyone. But for children, it's even different. Since the beginning of May, families with children have been preparing materials. The wormwood was cut back and began to dry, and every family was rummaging through the flower cloth heads, with five-color threads, and when the wormwood was dry, they began to make fragrant cloth bags. Using a variety of flower cloth pieces, cut out a variety of sachet cloth, inside which are placed cinnabar and realgar wrapped in mugwort leaves and sandwiched on cotton, and then tied with five-colored ropes.

My grandmother had stopped needlework for a long time, and my mother was not around. But I don't have a lot of sachets, and my aunts will make them for me, and my aunts from afar will also make them. They always bring me the best and most fragrant ones early. I have the impression that the second grandfather and the fifth aunt have done the most for me. She only had a son when I was at home, and making sachets was all for me. So, I had a bag of incense cloth on my wrists and around my neck. There are elm money, chili peppers, peach hearts, peaches, peanuts, ingots, golden locks and so on. In short, mine must be the most varied. Writing this, my eyes moistened, and I am grateful to the aunts in my hometown for leaving me with beautiful memories of childhood. But I don't like to be like my friends, with five-colored ropes on my feet, hands, and neck, I think it's like a snake, and I'm afraid.

The sachet is very fragrant and smells good. If the festival is in school, then the classroom must be filled with the aroma of wormwood and spices, and the strange fragrance of the fusion is overwhelming. On this day, the festive atmosphere was very strong, and the teachers and students were in a good mood!

At that time, like adults, I liked the Dragon Boat Festival.

When I was thirteen years old, I watched the movie "Qu Yuan", which was organized by the school. Qu Yuan's female disciple in the movie is called Chanjuan, but I don't know why I can't tell her apart from Chang'e in the moon. But he didn't think of Qu Yuan as Wu Gang, he was a bit older in the film. When it came to Qu Yuan's throwing into the river, I cried more sadly than my grandfather died (sin, my grandfather was still alive at that time, just a metaphor), and I was so sad that I almost couldn't leave the cinema. At the end of the film, it is written that eating zongzi on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival is to commemorate Qu Yuan. At that time, I felt that the Dragon Boat Festival that we had there was the most authentic and was handed down from ancient times. We never eat zongzi, and we think that the movie was made in Hong Kong, and the culture and folklore are not authentic.

However, I spent the Dragon Boat Festival in Xi'an that year. Unexpectedly, my parents who came out of Gaozhuang countryside followed the customs of Xi'an people, and they also ate zongzi, completely forgetting the traditions of my family, and really regarded themselves as city people. Since I don't live with my parents for many years, I have some emotional problems. Therefore, I really want to eat Dragon Boat Festival eggs from childhood to adulthood, but I don't dare to bring them up. I had to eat zongzi, oil cake and mung bean cake with them. But my Dragon Boat Festival is beautiful, and I am happy and happy. Originally, I still like to eat a bag of sugar bean paste dumplings made by the Muslims, but on this day, when I unveiled the dumpling leaves, I thought that Qu Yuan was going to boulder into the river, and tears were about to come out, and this year's Dragon Boat Festival really became a commemoration of Qu Yuan.

That's it, I don't like to spend the Dragon Boat Festival anymore. The Dragon Boat Festival that brought me a good time is gone and has become a dispensable festival. I have a family, and I have the final say at home, but it is completely no longer than the Dragon Boat Festival. Because, at this time, there is no mood to boil eggs for the Dragon Boat Festival.

In recent years, the Dragon Boat Festival has been hot again. Every Dragon Boat Festival holiday, I also send zongzi and mung bean cakes, which really forced me to face the Dragon Boat Festival. Double income of our double rice dumplings and mung bean cakes. In addition, the current zongzi are really not as delicious as those made by the Hui people at that time, and I am not used to eating meat zongzi at all. Not only do I not like to eat, but neither do the other two members of the family. These things make me worried, throwing them away is too wasteful to put my hands on, and I can't eat them. Moreover, my in-laws' family is from H County, and they have always made their own zongzi during the Dragon Boat Festival (at this point, I still feel really strange.) My mother-in-law's family in the deep mountains actually spent the Dragon Boat Festival so literately), so I can't send it away. It wasn't until later that I heard that it could be used to make porridge, and it came to use.

At this time, the Dragon Boat Festival is a beautiful feeling for me.

However, it is really a creation that makes people, and feng shui is reversed. Yesterday, I received two boxes of salted duck eggs from my cousin, who is a PhD student at our school, on the Internet. While criticizing him for spending money indiscriminately, his mood suddenly returned to the years when he ate eggs on the morning of the Dragon Boat Festival, and his mood instantly became as good as he did back then. Hurry up and call over, my brother told me that we still have the tradition of the past, but we don't eat seven eggs, at least one salty and one white, and one boiled garlic.

Haha, I laughed when I heard this...... 2019/6/6
