Section VII Visit to United Nations Headquarters in New York
Visit to United Nations Headquarters
The United Nations Headquarters is a place I have always wanted to be. Therefore, this is the place you want to visit most when you come to the United States, which means that any other attractions can be omitted, but this is a must-see.
However, before leaving, the classmates who had settled in the United States for many years laughed and said: I really don't understand, many Chinese come to New York to go to the United Nations headquarters, what do you see?
"Oh, regret, huh? I'm one of those who don't. I've always been concerned about politics, and the United Nations Headquarters is a must-go. "I don't understand where he got his conclusions.
I'm going today, and I'm going to get dressed up, and for me it's like going to our Great Hall of the People. So, like a Columbia student, he wore a newly bought thin red skirt and a tight coat outside. I went downstairs in a hurry, and the cold wind at the door blew me so hard that I couldn't stretch around. I thought to myself: When I arrived at the UN headquarters like this, I couldn't stand up and shivered when I was cold, and if the US security personnel mistakenly thought that I was a Chinese refugee, wouldn't that be a discredit to the country?
Thinking of this, I immediately went upstairs and changed into a winter skirt. There's a reason why I'm so responsive to the image. A few years ago, I saw a report in the media that N years ago, the father of one of our permanent United Nations ambassadors came to New York to see his son, and this father was a magnificent, personable, and patriotic person.
The old man was very proud of his son's job, but at that time, our country was not very politically and economically 'rich', and people who worked abroad on behalf of the country were not well treated politically. In order to add the icing on the cake to his son, the old man dressed up carefully almost every day and went forward to the headquarters of the United Nations to show his image of China. Another reason for this is that the old man does not know English, and most of the people he met at that time were Taiwanese and overseas Chinese, and whenever this happens, he will say to the Chinese he meets and accostes: I am from the mainland.
There are often filmed interviews in front of the United Nations General Offices. One day, a Hollywood director took a fancy to the father's image and invited him to play a famous Chinese figure in the film, and the old man was very happy to agree. In order to surprise his son, he did not tell the ambassador about this, only that he had something to do. A few days later, the old man went to film, but he came back that day, and he was so angry that he couldn't stop scolding.
After the ambassador asked, he learned that the old man had arrived at the filming site, and through the translator, he understood that he was playing a big traitor. The old man tore up the contract on the spot, and it was at this time that the director learned that the old man was an ambassador's father, and he mistook him for a Taiwanese, so he hurriedly sent a car and a doctor to send the old man home......
Haha, I want to laugh when I write this, because the follow-up is even funnier, but I still get back to my topic. I think of this story for a reason, that is, if I meet compatriots protesting and demonstrating at the gate of the United Nations, I just want to use my own image to tell them that I am very good as a Chinese, and I also want to let the American security personnel who maintain the protest site know through me that the accusations on those banners are only a small number of people who want to stay in the United States for one reason or another, and can be done by 'little traitors'. The reason why I have this point of view is because a few days ago on the campuses of the two universities, I encountered demonstrations, 'propaganda', and 'accusations' from the disciples of 'Master Li Kung Fu' in prominent positions.......
Well, it's a little wrong to write about emotions. All existence is reasonable, let's embrace it together.
Tickets were required to visit the United Nations Headquarters (the request said that I also had to bring documents, for which I took my passport, but I was not asked to show any documents. )。 The ticket booked online was at 2:20 p.m. to visit, because I was wearing high heels, and I walked a distance after getting off the bus with passion, and the passion came from the fact that I saw the flags flying high in front of the United Nations headquarters from afar, and there were many flags that could not see the end. I eagerly distinguish our Chinese red from the colorful flags waving in the wind! Although I knew that the order of the flags began with letters, when I arrived at the scene, I couldn't figure out which country it belonged to, and I had no way of knowing that it was in order.
I braved the cold wind and hurried to the end, for fear of missing our flag. Those who shouted and craned their necks in protest could not be caught in my gaze. At this time, several compatriots came to him, and one of them said to his companion: Hurry, time is running out, hurry up to our national flag and take a picture and go in.
Hearing him say this, I turned and trotted with them. I was running and looking for it, and after running for a while, I heard someone say: Look, our flag!
Oh, what a lot of people's eyes are shining! I also see that our flag is welcoming us.
In the gale, among the countless fluttering flags, our national flag is the only one, and when it flutters, it spreads the most openly, so it is the most eye-catching, which is to tell her children: I am here, I am here!
Looking up and looking at the national flag, my heart was warm, and my eyes were moist, but my mouth couldn't stop laughing: Five-star red flag, you are the pride of all the sons and daughters who love you! The sons and daughters who stand under the banner are proud of you! We are also your pride!
I was enthusiastically looking up at the five-star red flag, and time seemed to freeze. I don't know when, the compatriots finished taking pictures and walked towards the entrance gate. When they're gone, I'll have to find someone else to leave this precious picture for me. In front of me was a West Asian family, a young mother holding her children and taking pictures, and the man in the picture had a solemn face, thinking that one of the fluttering flags must belong to their country. Seeing the happy and proud appearance of their family, I couldn't bear to disturb their happiness.
Once again, I am excited to look up at our five-star red flag: proud, extremely proud!
Then, I walked as fast as I could have walked to the entrance gate, but I was the last. I can imagine the strictness of the security check when entering the United Nations headquarters, because, I went to the Empire State Building a few days ago, and it was the first time I saw that I had to take off my belt when I went through the security check, so at this time you can see that both men and women were wearing trouser belts, which was an indecent scene, and now it seems that no one feels embarrassed, but it just makes me in a skirt look at it and laugh: I have the foresight.
Haha, let yourself laugh again, because I was the only one wearing a skirt among all the visitors.
I participated in the Chinese interpretation group, so more than 30 people divided into two groups were all Chinese. And at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, the group was held at the same time as the Korean language, which is interesting. We, the Chinese delegation, were most excited to arrive in the Security Council Chamber, while the South Koreans were more interested in the portrait of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
I, too, am most interested in the Council Chamber. There is no meeting here today, so we are the protagonists in the hall. The layout of the hall is still different from that on TV.
In the conference hall, I sat in the auditorium, quietly contemplating what I had seen on television, recalling our country's consent, opposition and abstention. Recall, the resolution adopted here that affects the development of the region. Thinking of the current regional disputes, I really hope that through more and more effective issues in this hall, civilization, freedom, and equal well-being will be brought to every corner of human existence.
What I felt most directly connected to my individual self was the Development Council Chamber. Once again, the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) was known there, with the countdown on its door, and there are 735 days left today.
In the corridor outside the door there is a box of 'mobile schools', and there is a donation site to eliminate one of them, that is, to eradicate poverty, starting with a grain of rice, and when you see it, you will feel uneasy about the food you have wasted. In this box mobile school, all the teaching aids are complete, and it can be anywhere in the world, as long as people can reach it, and students can start teaching immediately. For this purpose, I consulted with a tour guide from China and, if possible, wanted to be one of the people who carried the suitcase.
After visiting the three halls, everyone began to take pictures, the Koreans took a group photo in front of the portrait of their compatriot secretary general, and I had no intention of taking a group photo (as if the Chinese had not passed), but I liked the UN flag very much, and of course everyone did not fall behind a few times after the rostrum of the UN General Assembly speech. Very happy.
A trip to the United Nations Headquarters was the fulfillment of one of my biggest dreams, so I was infinitely satisfied when I left.
