86. Robot Wall-E
On December 1, the 5th "Asia-Pacific University Automation Robot Olympiad" officially kicked off.
Twenty-four university teams from 11 countries and regions will present their entries in the next seven days.
The jury of the competition, composed of representatives of the Asia-Pacific Robot Development Association, a delegation of tutors from various universities, well-known entrepreneurs in the robot industry, representatives of science and technology media, and selected senior folk robot enthusiasts, will score all the entries fairly.
At the same time, the Asia-Pacific Radio and Television Alliance will follow up and report on the competition.
The robot of the team is called "Wall-E", which is named after the sci-fi animated film "Robot Story" produced by Pixar Animation Studio in 2008.
At that time, in order to name this robot, every member of the team had ideas, and there were constant disputes between them.
In the end, Zheng Xi had an idea and organized everyone to watch this god-level cartoon.
The name was decided.
Even the next robot called "Eva" has been decided.
Because the theme of this competition is "bionic", the Wall-E of the team of the University of Science and Technology is naturally very different from the image in the movie, which is a humanoid robot that walks upright.
Of course, perhaps in order to better express the theme of bionics, the entries from the other 23 universities also chose humanoid robots.
They all have heads, torsos, and limbs......
and skin.
Looking at it alone, this robot seems to be a little less creative in terms of appearance, and it is far less than the various schools of thought in the past.
But you can't just look at the surface.
These robots, without exception, are equipped with artificial skins, which have never been seen in previous continental championships or international cups.
The significance of holding a robotics competition is to create imagination, show talents, explore the unknown, exchange science and technology, and ultimately promote the development of science.
In fact, previous machine championships have done a good job in these aspects.
And this time, because of the participation of artificial skin, it is undoubtedly better.
In the early stage of the competition, artificial skin was the most intuitive criterion for judging bionics, so it was scored as the first independent item.
Under the scoring mechanism of 100 out of 100, the super new artificial skin of Huake University got an average score of 95.01.
For comparison, Edo University scored 88.18 points in second place, and Shicheng National University scored 80.75 points in third place.
This achievement was expected by Ding Sheng, after all, he used some of Marvel's black technology, which is basically a dimensionality reduction blow.
Edo University's new artificial skin represents the limits of the earth's original technology, and it deserves a score of 88.18.
What surprised Ding Sheng the most was the Lion City National University.
They used an octopus-like artificial skin, which is composed of three layers of rubber soft material at the top, middle and bottom, and managed to reduce the cost below the race line without reducing the tactile requirements.
Terrible.
Starting with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), which ranked fourth, and went all the way up to Asan Institute of Technology, which ranked 24th, there was no better breakthrough in artificial skin.
As a direct result, the ratings of these universities are all squeezed into a narrow band, and the difference is only a fraction of a cent.
With such a big advantage in Huakeda, does it mean that the champion is stable?
Definitely.
Although the theme of this competition is bionic, it is also a robot competition.
The robot's movable body structure, sensing system, recognition system, and intelligent system all need to determine the results through the set competition items.
Then the comprehensive bionic score is the final score.
The first real competition is "fire fighting".
Well, that's literally.
The organizer will place a candle in any one of the three bedrooms and two living rooms, and set up many obstacles, and the participating robot needs to extinguish the candle in the shortest possible time.
The shorter the time, the higher the score.
The competition looks simple, but it actually examines the robot's ability to process chips, fire extinguishing devices, walking ability, and the comprehensive level of flame, light, sound, infrared, and ultrasonic detectors.
Indispensable.
Compared with previous years, this year's focus is more on walking ability.
The reason is very simple, in previous years, except for Edo University, almost all colleges and universities have chosen crawler or rotary robot structure, just to facilitate the robot to walk, can successfully extinguish the fire in the fastest time.
However, this year, not only did Edo University bring the fifth-generation "ASMO" upright walking humanoid robot, which was greatly renewed, but all universities also equipped their entries with upright walking technology for the first time.
In order for a robot to walk upright like a human, it must first overcome three major problems: ground reaction force control, balance system, and foothold control.
This requires making joints for robots that resemble those of humans.
To put it simply, the more joints and the finer they are, the better the robot's ability to walk.
"It is said that the number of mechanical joints of the new generation of ASMO has increased to 108, and all of our teams are accompanying the prince to study. ”
Du Gui's gossip has always been relatively well-informed.
Of course, Ding Sheng knows what the 108 mechanically movable joints represent.
Ding Sheng did not participate in the body design and intelligent system design of the participating robot Wali of China University of Science and Technology, this is a competition of 12 people, and he can't do everything alone.
Dante remembers clearly that WALL-E only has 18 commonly used mechanical joints.
"The results of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology came out, 3 minutes and 51 seconds. ”
At this moment, another team member ran over, and the results of the first team in the fire extinguishing project had been released.
"The harmonic reducer that joints need most is not Sansang Industry's strong point, although their robot has 24 mechanical joints, but we can challenge this achievement. ”
For this old opponent for many years, Zheng Xi can be said to know quite well.
Soon, the team of Huake University came on the field.
In the end, Val-E delivered a time of 3 minutes and 47 seconds.
"Challenge Success!"
Du Gui clenched his fists excitedly, and he was one of the main forces in the design and production of mechanical joints and harmonic reducers.
The next teams appeared one after another, mostly more than five minutes away, and several of them had a disgraceful appearance today because they had never been involved in upright walking robotics before, and the worst results even took 1 hour and 48 minutes.
The game, which was scheduled to end at 6 p.m., was postponed to 9 p.m.
As of Edo University's appearance, Huake University temporarily ranked first.
The organizers seemed to want to save the suspense until the end, and deliberately arranged Edo University to be the last to appear.
According to the regulations, although only one member of each team can enter the stadium to watch the game, all the participants did not leave at this time, because the actors wanted to know how quickly this fifth-generation ASMO with 108 mechanical joints could extinguish the fire.
Including Ding Sheng.
This is a great opportunity to get to know the true level of science and technology on Earth.
"It's out, it's out!"
The on-site spectators of China University of Science and Technology ran back as if they were flying, and they didn't have time to breathe.
"How many seconds?"
As soon as Zheng Xi opened his mouth, he knew if there was any, there was nothing wrong with the minute, and he asked directly about the number of seconds, this is professional.
"27.12 seconds. ”
