In the Analects, it is said that "my way is consistent," which is roughly what it means. This is like picking up ears of rice in the rice field, twisting a stem, and bringing out a bunch, compared to the scavengers who pick up grains of rice, it is naturally twice the result with half the effort, but after all, they still rely on people's snorts and beg for food. But for ordinary lovers of Chinese culture, it is already very rare to do this!
The upper layer of the line is the surface, that is, scholars not only know how to use different clues to connect the knowledge points they have learned, but also organically weave various clues through association, induction, reasoning, deduction and other means to form a relatively tight plane with almost no loopholes. In the case of a particular scholar, 'face' can be expressed as 'field of study'. Reaching this level is equivalent to a farmer growing his own rice on rented land, although the harvest depends on the will of God and has to pay taxes, but as long as the wind and rain are good, and he is industrious enough, there will always be some overnight food, and no one will starve to death.
"The highest level is the sphere, that is, the accumulation of knowledge by scholars does not extend in all directions after forming a tight plane, but revolves around a core concept, and condenses the knowledge they have come into contact with into a closed sphere. In this sphere, all knowledge has its place, and outside this sphere, all knowledge that enters hastily can be fully explained. This realm is commonly known as 'harmony', also known as 'enlightenment'.
"When you reach the realm of harmony, it's like a farmer who has his own land, and can grow not only rice, but also sweet potatoes and corn in a year of famine. This piece of land may only be two or three acres in size, barely enough to support itself. This can be done by a thinker, a philosopher, a great monk, or a mentally ill person. Of course, this land may also be as vast as the earth and the universe, with the sun, moon and stars rotating on it, and the rivers, lakes and seas flowing below. There are very few people who can do this in the entire history of mankind, and they are basically cultural sages, religious leaders, and academic giants, such as Confucius and Zhu Zi, which we all know. ”
Liu Xinying's description made Jiang Shuiyuan and others feel that their horizons were opened: It turns out that learning knowledge is also divided into different levels! It turns out that we are still at the lowest level, like a frog in a well, and all we see is the narrow sky above our heads! "The second level is to express the thoughts of the ancients in their own words. At this stage, the learner already has a relatively deep understanding of the thoughts of the ancient sages, and has even reached the level of integration, and can use his own words to vividly express the attitude of the ancients towards all things. The predecessors called this realm 'I Note the Six Classics', and if you do this, you can be regarded as entering the hall by studying Chinese culture. If you lived before the Qing Dynasty, you could have made a name for yourself as a Confucian scholar and a school teacher, and now, you can barely get a teaching position in a school. However, to put it bluntly, it is just to be a mouthpiece and translator for the ancients!
The third level is to express one's thoughts in one's own words, which is when scholars have studied the writings of many ancient sages and found that although the ancients said a lot of truth, they were always unable to properly express the spirituality in their hearts. Therefore, after stepping through the clouds, he resolutely abandoned the thoughts of the ancients, and began to dig out the shining points in his spirit that were different from those of his predecessors, magnify them, and make sense of them. In this way, it can be regarded as a new and unique way, which can leave a little mark on the history books.
"The fourth level of realm is to express one's thoughts in the words of the ancients. When I reached this level, I found that my words were spoken by the ancients, but the ancients did not speak as clearly, and the words of the ancients could be used to prove what I said, which further demonstrated the correctness of my thoughts. Although the words were spoken by the ancients hundreds of thousands of years ago, and the ideas were created by me alone, the two go hand in hand and complement each other. This kind of realm was called 'Six Classics Note Me' by the ancients, and it can also be called 'Harmony'.
"We ordinary middle school students can express the thoughts of the ancients in the words of the ancients at the first level, and they can already make a name for themselves in the difficult arena of Chinese studies. It is even rarer to be able to achieve the second level of realm and express the thoughts of the ancients in their own words. So we don't have to be too ambitious now, we only need to thoroughly understand a few national classics, and strive to reach the peak of the first realm, and we can be firmly invincible in the selection competition in Huai'an Mansion!"
