12. Chapter 12 Genealogy
Hearing this, Wen Jing and I hurriedly came over. Pen, fun, and www.biquge.info
These genealogies of my family are relatively old, and they should be revised in the Daoguang period, and I often saw them when I was young, so I was more impressed.
But now the book in Hong Kaiyuan's hand surprised me a little: when I looked at it from the cover, its color, style, and size were exactly the same, almost exactly the same as other books. I was surprised because it was only one-tenth the thickness of other pedals!
I was about to speak, but Hong Kaiyuan handed it over directly: "Lao Qi, you can look at it yourself, although I didn't look carefully, it is obvious that this book can't be called a genealogy at all!"
For today's people, genealogy is still a relatively old thing, so the average person is not very familiar with it.
Genealogy is also called genealogy and genealogy, and the names are different in different places. Generally, it is based on blood relations, recording the hereditary reproduction of a certain family and the deeds of some important people, reflecting the rise and fall of a family from the side, and it is also a bit like the development history of a family. Some also record the origins, migrations, and population distribution of the family.
Like other genealogies, the cover of this book is also yellow, and on the right is a line of notes with four big characters "Qi Family Genealogy", but there is no small note next to it. This is a clear difference from other genealogies.
Because, as I remember very clearly, the other pedigree books have small notes indicating the time, lineage, room lineage, and volume number of the pedigree, but this one has nothing on it.
I opened it with some confusion, but the first page was not a text description as I expected, but a portrait!
What's even more outrageous is that this portrait is not printed, but hand-painted!
Actually, I don't think it's strange to see that it's a portrait, because I have seen these genealogies in my family before during the Qingming Festival, and the title pages of some genealogies are indeed portraits, but those are all engravings.
And this one is hand-drawn!
The person in the portrait only has the upper body, and the age should be a middle-aged person, this person looks very elegant, with kind eyebrows and kind eyes, a Chinese face, a full and round nose, very long ears, a little beard on the mouth, and a black hat with tail wings on his head, I can't tell its shape and name. The clothes on the upper body are also the kind of ordinary ancient clothing, which should be the clothing before the Qing Dynasty.
The overall feeling of this person to me should be that he is a relatively cultivated literati.
After reading this, I didn't care about it, but when I saw the words on the portrait, I couldn't help but be surprised: it actually said "Portrait of Engong Dong Shugong".
I was amazed not because of the words, but because of what they said!
Dong Shu!!This is clearly a person with a foreign surname, how can it appear in the Qi family's pedigree?!
However, the more bizarre thing is still to come, I first flipped through it roughly, and found that the whole book is about this person surnamed Dong!
This makes me wonder even more: It is unheard of to include a person with a foreign surname in the family tree, and it is still necessary to set up a biography for this person with a foreign surname! This move is really unprecedented and unprecedented!
Generally speaking, ordinary people in the family will only make some simple records in the family tree, such as the date of birth and death, marital status, the name of the descendants, where they are buried, etc., and only those who have been officials or have made significant contributions to the family have more detailed records.
If you want to make a biography, unless the person is famous in history and has immortal fame, whether it is identity, knowledge, wealth and status, he must be quite outstanding to be eligible to be legacious!
So, what kind of kindness has this benefactor of the Qi family, "Dong Shu", done to get such a high treatment?
I also found that in addition to the portrait on the title page, the contents of this book are also described in the form of a transcript.
Then, I carefully observed the various details of this book, and found that it was different from the paper of other books, and it was obviously better than the paper of other books, much like rice paper, because I was completely amateur about it, so I could not tell it, and could only judge it by the texture and color.
Although the color of the cover is the same, there is a noticeable color difference! The color of this paper is much darker and slightly yellowish than that of other scores, which suggests that this sheet should have existed before these books were revised.
In other words, this book was written earlier than the others!
And even the material of the gutter is not the same! this book uses silk thread, whereas other books I've seen use twine!
With that, my curiosity sparked and I began to read the contents carefully.
Anyone who has read the pedigree knows that in the vast majority of pedigrees, there is no obvious paragraph between the words, and all of them are traditional characters, so few people will read this kind of thing carefully. I didn't care about any of this either, but its otherness piqued my curiosity.
When I look at it again, all the words in it are written in small block letters, judging from the handwriting, these words are written vigorously and powerfully, and the silver hook is painted with iron, and it seems that the person who wrote it should be a well-educated person.
I was nurtured by my grandfather since I was a child, and I know all about traditional Chinese characters, so it is not difficult to read. The only depressing thing is that there is not a single punctuation point in these contents, so it is a bit difficult to see the meaning!
Fortunately, there is not a lot of content in it, although this book has almost twenty pages, but there are only seven pages of content, and the rest is blank!
I read it first and understood the description in it, and in order to prevent misunderstanding, I read it again, and finally, I understood it thoroughly.
The incident said in the book happened in the fifteenth year of Ming Chongzhen, because the emperor had no way to govern, the imperial power fell and the disasters continued, so that the world was in chaos, bandits were rampant, and the people were not able to make a living.
At that time, the area of Longmiaokou was experiencing a great drought that had not been encountered in a hundred years, so the bandits were even more rampant, and the Qi family was not spared!
One day and night, the bandits entrenched on the Longshan Ridge raided the village, and the entire village was looted, leaving not even a single grain for everyone! In the end, these bandits simply burned the village to the ground! The tribesmen, who were already suffering from drought, were even worse now, and they were almost desperate!
Two days later, a merchant who had come from afar passed by and felt very sympathetic to the fact that they were isolated and in a miserable situation. At that time, the patriarch saw that there were guests from afar, and he was very enthusiastic, and he allocated a part of the already small materials to entertain the guests.
The merchant was very moved by this, so he offered to stay for the time being to help everyone tide over the difficulties!
The patriarch was overjoyed and thanked him for his kindness.
The next day, the merchant left, saying that he was going to get ready.
Three days later, the people who had already run out of food came to ask the patriarch if the merchant had returned, and the patriarch said that he should be back soon.
Sure enough, in the evening of that day, the merchant brought with him a whole procession of forty or fifty men, but seventy or eighty horses, all loaded with food and supplies!
Everyone is desperate, and the joy is not a problem.
Seeing that Dong Shang was so generous, the patriarch was very surprised, so he asked the merchant again, what is the value of these materials, but the merchant shook his head and said nothing.
Thanks to this Dong Shang, the entire family surnamed Qi was able to survive the difficulties safely, and some of the surrounding villages were much more miserable! Although they were not sacked by robbers, countless people died of starvation and disease due to that natural disaster! If it weren't for the fact that the patriarch had not sent out some of them to help the emergency, it is estimated that the situation in the surrounding villages would have been even more serious!
After that, the merchant ordered the men he had brought to help the people rebuild the village, and told the patriarch that none of this was necessary, because there had been a great deal of sickness among the tribesmen during this time, and it was not suitable for them to work!
In the days that followed, a steady stream of building materials came in from outside, and more craftsmen joined in, and in less than three months, the entire village was rebuilt and the people moved into new houses!
Not only did the merchant help the clan rebuild the village, but even the ancestral hall of the clan was rebuilt, but all the buildings were no longer in their former positions, and the pattern was slightly different!
When the dust settled, the merchant said goodbye to the patriarch, saying that he had to continue his business!
No matter how much the patriarch tried to keep him, it was to no avail, and in desperation, the patriarch and his people begged the merchant to leave his name so that he could repay him later. The patriarch had made this request before, but the merchant never said it. This time, the patriarch led the whole clan to bow down and plead with him, and he said his name!
It turned out that the businessman's surname was Dong, his single name was a Shu character, and he was from Anhui, but he still didn't say the specific address. After that, he also emphasized that he should never think about repaying his kindness in the future, because he was also enlightened in a dream and became a giant.
The enlightened person also admonished him to do more good deeds, so he didn't want his people to have any thoughts of repaying kindness because of this, but only said that doing more good deeds in the future would be the best reward, and so on. Seeing that he resolutely refused to accept it, the patriarch had no choice but to give up.
From time to time, some people in the clan proposed to give Dong Shang a lifelong ancestral hall and offer incense day and night to bless Dong Shang and his descendants, but Dong Shang was also not allowed to do so.
Everyone persuaded for a long time, and in the end, Dong Shang thought about it and said that since he himself was also enlightened by others, if he really wanted to be thanked, he would still be grateful to the immortal who enlightened him. After discussing and discussing, everyone finally decided to make a statue of the god who lit Dong Shu in the ancestral hall, and use the side hall of the ancestral hall that was originally planned to be dedicated to the ancestors as a dedicated temple!
The patriarch was very interested in Dong Shang's dream, so he asked him for details.
But Dong Shang told the patriarch that the god in the dream was the ancient god Gonggong, and he was originally the water god arranged by God, but he was transformed from the heavenly dragon. In his dream, the co-workers told Dong Shang how to do it, and then his descendants would prosper, and his family would prosper!
As soon as he heard that the real benefactor was the dragon god, the patriarch was overjoyed, and he told Dong Shang that the family surnamed Qi had been blessed by the dragon god for generations, and it could be regarded as the same clan, and told Dong Shang that the dragon god of the Qi family was cultivating immortals in the Panlong Cave, maybe all this was already doomed in the underworld!
Dong Shang was very different, saying that the dragon god must also be a co-worker.
In the end, the patriarch and Dong Shang discussed and felt that the name of the Panlong Cave was a little inappropriate, so they simply renamed the Panlong Cave as Gonggong Rock! At the same time, Dong Shang also called the newly built street Qinglong Street, and called the temple dedicated to Gonggong the Shenlong Temple, and stayed until the project was completed!
After the statue was made, the patriarch asked Dong Shang to look at it to see if the image was accurate, and Dong Shang was very satisfied with the result.
Within a few days, Dong Shang took his leave and never returned.
In order to make future generations remember the kindness of that Dong Shang, the patriarch also wrote a biography for him and included it in the genealogy of the Qi clan!
When I saw this, I couldn't help but be surprised, and a very bad feeling suddenly appeared in my heart, but I couldn't describe it for a while, and this feeling was fleeting, I didn't grasp it at all, and when I thought about it again, I couldn't think of anything.
