Chapter Thirty-Six: A Difficult Promise
Hugo slowly descended into the cave with the thermos box in his arms, and on the rock of the previous wall, Pooh sat there quietly holding Xiaobai's body, the darkness completely surrounded the two, and even Hugo's night vision could not see the expressions on their faces.
"Shh~" Before Hugo could speak, Pooh took the lead in silencing the action.
"He's gone to sleep, please be quiet. Pooh said calmly.
"Please mourn. Hugo slowly spat out three words.
He understands his lover's lost feelings all too well, and Pooh doesn't need to be comforted by his "murderer".
Pooh looked up at the dark shadow hanging in the darkness.
"What are you doing?"
"Buy coffee. Hugo replied.
"Thank you. Pooh said softly, and Hugo was silent not knowing how to answer, he didn't expect Pooh to say thank you to himself.
"He went peacefully and without pain, which is a blessing. Pooh's tone was like that of an old woman who had seen everything in the world.
Hugo took out the coffee cup from the insulated box, and the temperature on the thick paper cup was just right. Hugo poured the coffee into the darkness beneath him, the hot liquid leaving a shallow heat in the air.
"Let's go. Hugo said quietly.
"Where?" said Pooh.
"Send you home. β
"I don't have a home anymore. β
Pooh watched the shadow silently.
"Your home has been ruined. β
Hugo did not make any remorse to Pooh, he knew that all words were flashy and hypocritical in front of Pooh.
"This is a matter between me and Xiaobai, and I have no intention of implicating you, and Xiaobai also hopes to see you safe and sound. β
"Xiaobai, he can't see anything anymore, but if you do that, will your heart feel better?"
In the face of Pooh's cold questioning, Hugo was silent.
Pooh said: "Before leaving, Xiaobai told me that he hoped that I would not hate you, and I promised him. β
"It's not that Xiaobai and I are magnanimous, it's that we're all tired. β
"I'm really tired..."
Looking at Pooh Hugo, who was talking to himself, he didn't know how to speak, and he had already made up his mind that if Pooh insisted on staying here, he would use forceful means to send him back to the 23rd arrondissement.
"By the way, this is what Xiaobai promised you. With that, Vinian threw an object at Hugo, who reached out to catch it, feeling a hard object mixed with moisture and warmth.
It is the remnant of the stone inscription of Tritocleia in Xiaobai's body.
In the darkness, Hugo could not see the full extent of the stone inscription of Tritocleia, and could only feel that it was shaped like a playing card, and the edges around it seemed to have been simply corrected.
Hugo felt the warmth coming from the stone inscription, and a long-lost sense of familiarity came over him.
Since escaping from the Welfare Institute, Hugo had only seen one stele in the neo-Victorian space of Atlantis, and now that he had finally seen another stele, Hugo felt that an invisible force was secretly driving him to tie himself to the Tritograma stone carvings.
"Is this important to you?" asked Pooh.
Hugo shook his head slowly and said, "I never wanted to see this thing again, but I didn't want to end up still..."
Pooh said, "If you really resist it, just throw it away, no one here is going to force you to do anything now." β
Hugo stared at the remnants of Tritogramia's stone carvings, which could not be seen clearly, but did not do what Pooh had said.
Pooh laughed, "You said you wanted to be in control of your own destiny, but what about the truth? In fact, why didn't Fan Cage give it to himself?"
With that, Vinnie's palm gently stroked Xiaobai's forehead.
"You're just stupid. I don't know if this sentence is for Hugo or for Xiaobai.
Hugo was silent, he didn't want to be as free and easy as Pooh said, but when the reality was really in front of him, Hugo still couldn't go against this will, maybe as Pooh said, his unfreedom was just a mediocrity.
Pooh looked at Hugo again and said, "What is the name of your dead lover?"
Hugo hesitated for a moment and said, "Liu Zhentong." β
Pooh nodded and said, "She's happy." Hugo fell silent when he heard this, and Pooh continued: "I don't mean anything else by saying this, except that if a man is willing to pay for the woman he loves, then even death is nothing to be afraid of. β
Why isn't Xiaobai such a man?
Pooh said: "I don't blame you for this matter, only one thing like you plead, I hope you can agree." β
Hugo pondered for a moment and then said, "You say." β
"Never have anything to do with Jasmine again, the farther away from her the better!"
Pooh's voice suddenly became resentful, like a lioness protecting her cubs.
Hugo couldn't help but be stunned when he heard this, and in this dark cavern he couldn't help but think of the skeleton boy in the past, when he only had one request for himself, and that was to leave Jasmine.
Hugo didn't listen to the skeleton boy, and unconsciously got closer and closer to Jasmine, but in Tianying's three attempts, Hugo still hurt the girl who had always liked him.
Pooh's voice grew harsh, and his tone became more resentful and threatening.
"You are an ominous being in yourself, and whoever you are with will only gain misfortune, and you are destined to be a cursed person in this life. β
Hugo was silent, and in the face of Pooh's aggressiveness, there was no anger in his heart, but a strong sense of self-reproach hitting his heart.
Pooh glared at Hugo, his body trembling constantly.
"Answer me. β
Hugo was silent.
"Answer me!" Winnie roared angrily.
Hugo was silent for a long time, and finally slowly spoke: "I promise you..."
Pooh let out a long sigh, and then leaned against the stone wall, and the spirit that was full of energy just now was completely dispersed.
"Thank you, I hope you remember your promise tonight and never forget... Jasmine is a very good child, she deserves to have a beautiful life of her own... She should be fine..."
Pooh's voice became weaker and weaker, and Hugo, who was still in a heavy state just now, suddenly realized that something was wrong, and rushed to Pooh's side.
A thick breath of blood rushed to his nose.
Hugo had also smelled blood before, but he thought that the breath was coming from Xiaobai, but he didn't want it to come from the artery above Pooh's neck.
At some point, Pooh tore off a piece of his shirt and wrapped it around his neck so that the blood didn't gush out.
Hugo's eyes widened as he looked at Pooh, who was almost completely gone, and was a little overwhelmed in the face of the huge impact.
"Remember... Your promiseβ" muttered Pooh as he lay dying.
