Chapter 8 Mine Caves
Wind and rain and night.
They have entered the heart of the Sakya Plains thoroughly. The torches had long since been extinguished by the rain, and the only magic lantern was crumbling in the wind. Whitewater had to call for two guards to go ahead, carrying cloth bags and wrapping the lanterns. In doing so, what little brightness they had was diminished into a faint fluorescence.
Chea walked at the front with her shield in hand. The light in Whitewater's hand only allowed her to barely see the road under her feet. The road was built by pioneers many years ago, and the country rebuilds it every ten years, and luckily Chea can tell that it is a road and not a wasteland.
"We're coming. A young guard said, pointing to the mine in the distance.
"Get in!" yelled Whitewater.
The members of the originally dazed team immediately seemed to have been beaten with chicken blood, and their eyes all shone and walked towards the shadow in front of them.
The gates of the mine were rusted, and there were rusted iron tools such as pickaxes and carts scattered around. The railroad track leading to the mine tripped over a guard, and he was heard screaming. Whitewater called for someone next to him to help him, and he kicked open the wooden door of the mine.
The cloth cover wrapped in the lantern was lowered, and the dark cavern was immediately illuminated.
Whitewater walked over to the guard, who had been lifted up, still moaning, and found him slashed in the waist with a dagger.
"The ...... he fell on himself," explained the man next to him.
Whitewater glanced at the wound. "What's your name?"
Merris...... Captain ......"
"Remember this wound, it reminds you to look at the road when you walk in the future......" Whitewater pulled out a vial of Light Healing from his pocket and shoved it into Merris's mouth. "Now, pick up your sword. ”
Merris's pale face soothed a lot. He was a tall man, with a long face and large hands, and wore only a piece of animal skin armor except for his own cloth coat, which had been completely wet.
"We've got one man missing...... said the guard who was holding Merris, "it was ten when we came, and now we have nine......
Whitewater frowned.
"Are you sure you didn't count wrong?"
"That's right, Captain. Chea replied.
Whitewater turned, was silent for a moment, and then said, "Who is he?"
"His name is Datt...... He was a carpenter's son. ”
"Date," Whiteworth nodded. "I know him......"
"Captain, what are we going to do? We've lost someone. Chea walked over to Whitewater.
Whitewater sighed.
"We still need to complete the tasks sent by the city hall. Whitewater turned. "May God bless Dat's safe return to Loneka. ”
Everyone bowed their heads. Whitewater also knew in his heart that in such bad weather, missing people rarely had the opportunity to return to their towns. In normal times, it would only take half an hour to walk from the city to the mine, but this night they consumed about five hours in total, and they couldn't delay it any longer.
"It would have been nice if we had come during the day. Someone in the crowd said.
"The mission sent by the town hall, if we don't completely end the goblin's rule in this place before noon, the messenger sent by the baron will leave. ”
"Why do we have to clean up this by ourselves?" At this time, a fat man asked the doubts in everyone's hearts. "Why didn't the Baron send the Storm Knights himself, I think the goblins in here are not enough for them......"
"We need to do our own thing......"
"But we've lost a man!" said the fat man angrily, "and all we have is a simple promise - a promise that someone will be able to renovate the facility after we get rid of the goblins in it." And that bullshit messenger, he'd rather spend a few lives than wait here for two days......"
"How much did the mayor beg for mercy in Baron Storm to get this opportunity? Don't you want the mine to reopen?"
"I don't want my friend to die more than that. ”
"Barry......" Whitewater sighed, "even if you don't care about us, you should think about your offspring." If our city doesn't grow, it will eventually fall into ruins. The state promised us that once the goblins in this area were cleared, they would personally send professional geographers here to explore and predict the reserves of blue steel......"
"So what?" said Barry. "That's why those noble lords sent us to die, didn't they?"
"The terrible weather is over," said Chea, who was standing aside, at this moment, "for now, the nine of us are more than enough to deal with a group of goblins." Bally......"
"I'm not going to die," Barry shook his head. "If you can become some big hero, come back and tell me, I'm going to wait here anyway. ”
Chea glanced at him and was about to speak, but Whitewater stopped her.
"Okay, Barry, I'll leave you here and follow us after we're done on combat mission, but I don't guarantee any danger if you're left alone here. ”
"It's better than being inside. Nonchalantly, Barry found an old minecart and sat down.
Whitewater turned around and shouted to the crowd, "Now get your weapons and equipment in order, and follow me to the inside of the mines." We must find Isarak, the Fire Dancer, and bring his head back. For the glorious revival of Rannega!"
"For Lannega!"
"For Vasilia!"
......
A spear sped out of the dark cavern and pierced the neck of the guard closest to the darkness, causing blood to gush and the poor guard fell to the ground.
"No!"
Someone in the crowd shouted, and then everyone dispersed in a "whoop", some screaming and rushing into the distance, others clinging to the wall. Whitewater very calmly lit up the cavern in front of him with a magic lantern, and coldly saw another spear thrown from a distance.
"Be careful!" Chea held her shield in front of Whitewater, and all they heard was a loud "bang!" as her log shield shattered into two and spears grazed her body.
"Rush!" a small, thin guard lunged into the darkness with his sword in hand, and by the time Whitewater had re-lit the lamp, the guard had already slashed and stabbed a spear-throwing goblin.
But behind him, dozens of pairs of red eyes still flashed.
"It's all on!"
I don't know which one suddenly shouted, and the crowd immediately rushed towards the place behind the little man. Everyone screamed and slashed, except for the fat guard named Barry still sitting at the mine door.
"We've alarmed the goblins in the mines......" Whitewater flashed in front of him in the mines, a small group of goblins had previously started a bonfire here. Later, more and more torches or braziers appeared in the mines, and the brightness was no longer necessary for Whitewater to hold a magic lantern in front of him.
After killing a wave of goblins who had taken the lead, the remaining goblins retreated into the depths of the mine. Whitewater stopped the crowd that wanted to continue charging up, indicating quiet.
"Shh......h
The thin, short guard, who was the first to rush forward, was the most heroic and righteous at this moment. Whitewater looked at his face approvingly, smiled and said, "Tram, you did your best, but fighting is more than just force. ”
He turned to face the crowd who had just finished the battle and were still excited.
"Check your gear and see if anyone is hurt. ”
Most of them were covered in color, with their own wounds and goblin blood. But everyone did not cry out in pain, but looked at the captain with a determined look in their eyes. Chea's left hand was shattered by the shield, and blood oozed from his arm. But Chea didn't seem to care about all this, and she stood silently at the back of the line, watching her surroundings vigilantly.
"Our enemy is Isharak the Fire Dancer. Whitewater motioned for everyone to gather together, and then whispered, "Goblins love fire, it's a well-known thing, so it's likely that you'll encounter some goblins attacking with fire in this mine, and we need to be careful in everything." In addition, according to the reports of the expedition many years ago, there is a creature that is even more terrifying than the goblins. ”
"I know," Tram began, "Goblins are said to be closely related to a creature that burns all over its body and carries demon wings on its back......"
Whiteworth nodded, and he took out a Philosopher's Stone from his backpack, then took out a stack of glass bottles containing orange-red liquid and distributed them to each soldier. By the time he finally gave it to Chea, there was only one bottle left in his hand.
Chea shook her head at him.
Whitewater clenched the vial in his hand for a moment, and then said:
"If the rumors are true, teammate, I hope you take this fire protection potion as soon as possible, it can save your life at the most important moment. Now, let's set off to explore deeper into the mine. Everybody keep up, now there are seven of us, and I hope to be seven after the mission. Do you understand?"
"Roger!" said everyone in unison.
