Chapter 20: The Tomb
"Well, that's the destination......" Rodney looked around. "It's desolate......"
Grisenda glanced at him.
"Oh...... By the way......" Rodney reached in his pocket and pulled out a space storage stone. "I'm supposed to pay you, after all, you've protected me from goblins along the way......" he squirmed and reluctantly pulled out a small bag. "There are a dozen gold coins in here, look at ......"
"I remember you told me you'd give me 50 pieces of ......," Grisenda narrowed.
"It's not ...... I'm just an ordinary seed merchant, you see this place is so shabby...... Ahem, didn't I bring so much money?" he stretched out his space storage stone. "If you don't believe me, check to see if there's any other money in the stone. โ
"I see there's a space storage stone in your coat pocket. Grisenda said calmly.
"Uh......" Rodney sweated profusely as he took out his own stone. "Okay, you won...... I'll give you money......"
Grisenda snorted.
"Thank you for your kindness, but I'm not short of money. With that, she shook her head and left the door without waiting for Rodney to hand out the money.
It's a desolate place, with a few low wooden houses built behind a small wooden fence. Some of the colonists who had come to clear the wasteland were curious about the two newcomers. Their clothes were in tatters, and their eyes showed disappointment and exhaustion. Grisenda had no idea that her grandfather's grave would be here, but she still had a glimpse of the ruined fortress.
"That's the Clay tomb you're looking for......" Rodney stumbled over. "Miss, don't you really want money?"
"No, you don't. Her eyes never took off the crumbling castle. Glicenta tread the turquoise grass and the uneven stone path, and slowly approached the lonely fortress by the river. She glanced back at Rodney, who was watching her from a distance, then at the colony, which was gradually shrouded in mist, and into the crumbling walls.
It's a marble fortress, and it might be more accurate to call it a watchtower. It covers an area of only about ten square meters, and it is in a decaying state, with nothing but gravel and moss.
Not far away, a colonist watched curiously as she walked into the tower, but no one followed. Grisenda was grateful that they hadn't bothered her to meditate alone, and she found a ground staircase in the gap in the rubble.
"This mausoleum," Master Dansur said to her before leaving. "After your grandfather's body was moved here more than a decade ago, no one has gone in and explored it. It is said that after Baron Storm ascended the throne, he sent someone to blow up the tower of the watchtower, just to show that he did not share the sky with your family. โ
The dark abyss smells of decay and fear. Glicenta just glanced inside, and her heart seemed to stop. She remembered her childhood in captivity, and in that large, sealed cell, the only thing that could accompany her was her own bed and the candle in front of it. She had seen almost nothing but humans at the time, so she fainted on the spot when the rat passed in front of her and burrowed into the bed, ghosting through the void of the wall. Baron Storm sent someone to heal her convulsive body with witchcraft, and for the first time in his life, he showed her the true sun. But the shadow of this terrible creature could not linger in her heart, and in the dead of night, when there was no one alone, the sound of rustling in the cracks of the wall continued to torment her, and Grisenda could not sleep all night.
Grisenda was only 9 years old when she first went out hunting with the Baron's army, and she was held tightly in the arms of Baron Andlegaya Stone, and her face was red from his hard stubble. The hunt had caused Grisenda to witness her first death, and each subsequent one had made her more numb, but her habit with the screams and blood of large beings had made her even more terrified of the tiny, terrible spiritsโall but rats, spiders, ants, cockroaches, and all the terrified beings in the walls of the dark castle made her shiver.
The huge portraits in the room depict terrifying vampire legends. It is said that the vampire in the portrait would escape in the middle of the night and burrow into the ground, leaving only an unpleasant smell of blood. One night Grisenda woke up from a nightmare and saw a pale, emaciated, white-haired man strolling out of the portrait and smiling at her with blood-red eyes as she curled up in a corner before disappearing completely. The true meaning of the Storm Fortress's Strom family emblem, the Fangs of Blood, was finally fully understood by her during this sleepless night.
In order to escape from the horrific cell, Grisenda accepted the baron's offer, was branded with extremely painful magical runes, and at the age of 14 managed to defeat everyone but two other Storm God Knights. She smiled for the first time that day in front of everyone's eyes, but it wasn't because of the cheers and cheers of others, but because she saw the pale face for the second time in the middle of the crowd.
The Slom family were all malnourished and looked sick, but their men, the Storm Knights, were all in good spirits and capable of mastering the secret techniques of lightning magic. After fighting a few wars with Baron Storm, Grisenda realized that she was no match for her on the continent. This was not a happy fact, as she felt that the strength of the Storm Fortress would definitely threaten the peace of Vasilia and the entire Exiled Kingdom. This uneasiness is evidenced in an ancient book in the library, where Grisenda reads information about the true face of the vampire and refuses to have another conversation with the pale-faced man.
She confided it all to the only person she had been close to in all these years, her sister, and for the first time expressed her hostility to Stormfort. The day after this heart-to-heart conversation, Master Dhansur approached him and told him how unmanageable the situation was, hoping that Grisenda would save herself and leave the place as soon as possible. It wasn't until after Master D'Sur had left that she learned of the fact that her sister and the baron were going to get married.
"Why? She's only 14!?"
Glicenta drew her sword in the hall, but because of her pact with Baron Storm, she fell unconscious before the sword slashed his head.
Master Dhansur shuttled through the prison and carried the groggy Grisenda out of the prison. In the mist of tears, she saw the pale vampire for the last time.
He smiled at her.
So when Grisenda saw the dark abyss, all the memories of that place of distress quickly flooded back to her heart. She heard rats gnawing on rocks in the ground, so she had to run away from the place before she was completely unconscious.
She couldn't get in.
Grisenda fell to the ground, still imagining the vampire's face in her mind. In her thoughts, the pale, bloodless face was everywhere.
"Miss......"
Suddenly the world had a voice. Glicenta jerked back and saw a man with black shawl hair crouching down with a bow and arrows on his back, holding her shoulder.
"What's wrong with you, miss, you're not sick, are you?" the man touched her forehead. "Why is it so hot?"
"No, I'm fine. Grisenda slapped his hand away.
The man laughed. His facial features were relatively small, his face was goose-egg face, and apart from the striking long hair, the attraction was the bow and arrow on his back.
"You ......"
"I'm the guard here, pretty much the commander in charge of all the soldiers here. He held out his hand. Grisenda was stunned for a moment, took his hand with her right hand, and stood up. "My name is Nisol, what about you?"
"Gricenta. โ
"Glicenta......" he nodded. "It's a nice name. I heard from the new seed merchant about you, and the residents of the neighborhood also reported that you had entered this abandoned fortress, so I came to check it out, and I didn't expect you to ......"
"I'm really fine. Glicenta shook her head.
"Miss Glicenta, what are you doing here to our humble manor?"
"I'm ......," she thought for a moment, sighing, "I'm a traveler who traveled here." โ
"Really?" said Nisol grinned. "If you want to find a place to stay here," he said, pointing to the woman who stood in front of the wooden house not far away, surrounded by a group of peasants, "you can go and talk to her, she is the real governor of our place." โ
"Hmmm......"
Nisol stared at her for a moment.
"Have a great trip. โ
